You have NO idea how long I've been waiting for this ever since I've got my black leather G4 2 weeks ago. I LOVE IT! No regrets so far and won't even look back on it. Everything about the phone minus speaker placement is awesome and I call it my "Jack of all Trades" since it does everything really damn well but doesn't really excel in one, minus the camera, since it's killer. Also, that 808 SoC? Not a problem. The 810 may be quicker initially, but use it for more than 5 minutes and the 808 actually outperforms the 810 by a near-country mile. After 5 Antutu tests, the G4 gets 45k on Antutu while the G Flex 2 gets 35k. Says a lot, doesn't it?
D13H4RD2L1V3 Also, at 3:08, those are actually the contacts for the NFC chip embedded in the back. The contacts for wireless charging is actually on the right side of the battery. :)
D13H4RD2L1V3 And you need the protective case from lg for the wireless charging, my brown back didnt have the pins for it but the case did so i guess you need it.
PeterOnTheInterwebs Gaming is fine on it. You won't get awesome frames as it's running a slightly weaker Adreno 418 compared to the 810's 430 but it's capable. And no, it doesn't overheat. It gets warm, but never hot.
I feel this is more of spiritual successor to the Galaxy S5 than the S6 is. If it weren't for the rear-facing speaker, I'd say this seems like a perfect phone.
Krog The Mighty I have the G4, the phone is very fast, the only thing is it can get hot, really really hot. But just close all the apps in task manager and it cools down in 2 mins so its not that big of a deal. And for the speaker, man that fucker can go loud, not bothering me at all that its on the rear.
Love this review! I've just upgraded to my G4 from the G3 and love it! Certain things you can do with LG handsets make them winners, such as being able to auto hide the soft keys in most apps. And their OS is as close to stock Android as you'll get, in my opinion, with the exception of the Nexus range. It's so fast, and using a launcher like Nova just makes it even better. Not a huge fan of the launcher it comes with but it's not bad. The leather back feels lovely as well, the feel of it is more important than the look and it's so nice not to get that sweaty feeling whilst you're using it!
Ellen S hey Ellen I couldn't contact you on hangouts , I wanted to see the bug in Ango icon pack , so hopefully we can fix it and you consider updating your review for Ango icon Pack
theFrizzleFry The benefit of the higher res kicks in when you see an image, and then look closer at the display, and actually see more detail. The effect is subtle, but it will only get better when they put 4K displays in smartphones.
I personally love that the phone has a fm tuner. While having tons and tons of songs on a phone is nice for getting w.e song pops into your head and is desired to be listened to as soon as possible, sometimes its just nice to listen to the radio.
FM radio is plus point for people like me who love the music broadcaster in the real world radio stations.. HTC and LG are the brands that are listening to consumers while Samsung is busy rivaling Apple and removing useful features like removable battery, sd card slot and fm tuner..
Not the CPU market though. They will hopefully wait until skylake to do it just so they can do everything new. Otherwise it would probably be another G3258 build.

I've had it since launch day. I'm happy with it, bar two things: the rear facing speaker mentioned in the video, and LG's "Smart voice" opening every time you plug a pair of headphones in. Every. Freaking. Time. Headphones with no inline microphone don't cause the app to open, but the phone has a hard time recognizing whether there is a microphone or not. Very happy with it nonetheless.
Linus, put this into your smartphone playlist. I was searching through your phone reviews because I plan on upgrading soon and while I remembered you doing a review of this, I wasn't able to get it from the playlist like I could all the others.
I went from the G2 to the G4 and I'll tell you what, the battery against my G2 was noticeably doubled and everything I loved about the G2, they did away with it greatly on the G4. It's an amazing phone, by far the best on the market. You can't beat the LG UI, so easy, fast and convenient.
Hunter Stevens I got me this fucker lol www.dx.com/p/xiaomi-genuine-16000mah-dual-usb-mobile-li-ion-power-bank-w-4-led-indicators-silver-white-363631#.VaY6E1Xtmko
Ben Major Well I can run my phone a full week of that thing only and I had it already anyway, the g4 isnt thin by itself and such a thing would make it only worse
I hope LG becomes the next samsung. although samsung apparently really did improve on the S6, I haven't opted for one since the galaxy s2 and have been using LG since. (nexus 5 now) and it's 1,5 years old without ever using a bumper case or anything.. it's appart from a small scratch spotless. and I've dropped it more than once shall we say.
The G4 is an awesome device. I currently have the G2 and I still love it, especially now that it's getting the 5.1.1 update to fix memory leaks. I don't really feel like upgrading, but the G4 looks tempting. Although, I would love a refreshed version of the G2 simply because of the size factor. It would be so awesome to have a phone with the size factor and design of the G2 and the specs of the g4 plus dual front-facing speakers. That would've been a killer phone. :)
Ive been using my new G4 for about a week now, and its great! The battery life is astounding, being able to handle maximum brightness demanding tasks for over 4 hours straight. Speaking of brightness, the screen is VERY bright (when you want it to be) and contrast levels are on par with an AMOLED screen. The 1440p is glamorous (especially for Linus' videos.) I dont notice any lag, and multitasking is handled well with it never getting more than slightly warm in my hand. The camera is stupendous, outmatching the HTC M9 by far with colors, sharpness and contrast. Being a recreational photographer as well, the manual settings are very handy for when auto cant decide between focusing on something in the foreground or background. My only irk is really the leather back. Ive never had anything leather before, so I dont know if its normal, but where my fingers rest on the back, theres a significant tint difference, almost looking like black dirt spots. Ive tried following countless leather cleaning guides, but even if I manage to restore it, after a day of use its back. It could just be my sweaty fingers, or there could be a problem with the leather used. I dont really know. It certainly does have a very premium feel to it though. I also find LG's TouchWiz very efficient. It doesnt lag like Samsung's when accidentally swiped to, and I find myself instinctually using it to control my Music and monitor my LG Health stats. The screen is admittedly a bit big for me, upgrading from an iPhone 5. I find myself using it with 2 hands for typing, something I'd never done before but has increased my typing speed. When I only have one hand available though ;) I do an awkward motion where I tilt the screen down so my thumb can hit something in the top of the opposite side. Just something to get used to with a bigger and, incase I hadnt already mentioned it, amazing looking screen.
As for the dbrand skins and laptops, they skin toasters. If you don't have one of the five macbook models they have, you don't get a laptop skin. So my GS70 Stealth Pro is going to have the fingerprint brushed aluminum on display (which yes, looks nice, until the fingerprints get on it) until I get a skin for it. Actually, they have relatively little selection. DecalRUs has way more selection for way more devices, so I'll be going with them. It doesn't matter what quality your skin is if you don't make a skin for certain products.
Zizi Mugen Wasn't "double tap to wake" first introduced with the Nokia N9, back in 2011? My N9 does it ;0 The N9-glance screen still smokes the WP-glance screen, compared to my 830~
Lord Awesome LOL, I have never seen someone describe a comment as being cheap and tacky but anyway, im not bashing the phone I just think the pattern of the carbon fiber does not add to the look but instead detracts from it.
I know its really late since you have uploaded this video but I am getting this cellphone tomorrow and I am from India and I really love the G4 Thanks for the video
I bought the LG G4 the day it came out, and I am not disappointed at all! That said, the glass screen protector that I bought to go with it shattered and began peeling within a few days. P.S. I have not noticed any loss in performance whatsoever, loading is instant and the phone stays cool!
Forever Alone Well i was pretty heavy at first. All I do now is browse and check social media and shit. My Iphone 5 has had better days and Im just sad that I always need a powerbank for this phone.
RykoDimSim then it might have been a software update thaat made battery life worse, i have a moto g 2014 and when it had android kitkat i got outstanding battery life, about four and a half hours of screen on time, and with lollipop it was shit, and now it runs marshmallow, it has improved but i dont get the same as i got with kitkat, and also it is now 8 month old so it makes sense that it doesnt last as long, but i still get three and a half hours
2560x1440 is dumb as hell, just wastes power. I don't like the LG phones because they put the buttons in a weird place. Every time I tried to use the G2, I'd almost drop it.
Corinn Heathers Exactly. 4k screens just waste battery and I mean comon, like why does a phone even need to be 4k. At least master the tech before using it so it doesn't obliterate the battery
CYTHRAUL // Mango.Boy At larger screen sizes 1080p makes sense, on my oneplus one's 5.5" display 720p would be noticeably fuzzy. On PCs this problem is worse because Windows sucks at dpi scaling. I had to do a lot of fuckery to get my 14" laptop with a 1080p display to both not look too small to read comfortably and to not exhibit too many scaling artifacts (which it still does in a lot of apps).
Corinn Heathers I think phone screens should stay at about 1080p, as you said 720 has a lot of noticeable blur but 4k is just too sharp to the point where text and all that is kinda eee to look at. Yeah I think atm it's only desktop PC's that are acing 4k.
***** Yeah, but for the most part, people are going to get more out of the extra battery life and GPU snappiness you get from just limiting things to 1080p. Now tablets are a different story. Their screens are larger and have much more room for batteries, so I don't see a problem with QHD there.
I have the G2,3 and 4. But, I'm furious about the G5. The screen is too small and the phone feels incomplete to me. Doesn't feel like a 'G Series' phone to me.
why is Apple the only brand that can make a pretty phone? The iPhone's look like a piece of art. Samsung, lg, Motorola phones all look like plastic junk.
Just went to the Verizon store the other day to upgrade from my old HTC DNA. Going in, I still couldn't decide between the S6 and the G4. The guy at Verizon even tried to tell me the G4 had an 18 mp camera to the S6's 16. Really you can't go wrong with either phone. The G4 is a BIG phone, and the buttons on the back were horrendous for me considering how I hold my phone. Of course the S6 doesn't have the removable back and upgradeable micro SD storage that the G4, but more storage doesn't really apply to me considering 32 gigs (or a bit less obviously) is more than enough. So I went with the S6 and I've been pleased since.
Almost a year later and my G4 is still rocking. It has had multiple problems that I have had repaired, but that's mostly because it was bought from sprint and was bought before sept. When all the probs were fixed
are g4 made in october/nov/dec 2015 has bootloop problem too? Please advise. I am planning to buy a g4 but doubtful because of the vbery famous bootloop problem that occur 7-9 months of use.
I'm very impressed with this phone. I'm still on a S4 (rooted) and the size is so good and the color scheme I made with Wanam. This is the only phone that looks like more of the same and doesn't have an overly colorful default theme. x.x
Nice review. I appreciate the enthusiasm you put into all the videos. Regarding the G4 some of the other reviewers have been overly critical. The G4 is a well rounded device. Like you I found very little to complain about.
The LG Leon (H340n) is basically a cheapo G4, for $200 in local currency I got a quadcore phone with a gigabyte of RAM and a microSD slot. Best purchase I've done by far.
My wife has this phone (H440) , and she is really happy with it, so much so I've got one coming...... Our only gripe is that the double tap to wake seems unresponsive sometimes...
Vinyl wrap skins are great but they are very difficult to apply. If you stick it on 1mm off it's ruined and will look terrible. Not to mention air bubbles. Just take note it's not an easy thing to do. They are precision cut but you will need extreme precision to stick it on straight lol.
I had the iPhone 3g then the htc evo 3d,the lg Optimus G (I quite liked with the lg bumper case) htc one m7(my previous favourite phone yet then the one m8 and now the g4. To date this is the best phone I have owned. The camera is mind blowingly good it feels great in the hand the screen is beautiful and the buttons make so much sense I can't even look back. I got the extra battery and cradle promo with the 32gb SD card from lg for free and because of the extra battery the phone hasn't touched the charger in a month.
This phone is a savior. I loved the S3 for how perfect it was, then they locked the bootloader. Then there was the S4 with a heavily locked bootloader. Then the S5 wand S6 went downhill. All other phones have their ups and downs, but this G4 is actually one phone I might use stock. [With root of course]. If only that price tag was more in my range!
I really love the full-glass face of the phone...it would've been better to not have the LG logo on the bottom, though. Keep that on the back like the Nexus!
Quan Dang The difference is in the person that had them make the phone, the G4 is totally LG's so they put the logo up front to show it, on the nexus 5 the logo is on the back because they only made the phone on request by google. Atleast i think this is the case lol
to think I got this phone December 2015 for $150 because some warehouse company didn't know the gem they had. Other then shit battery life its been a great phone.
I can't decide between the G4, S6 or M9. My favorite changes weekly. As of now, I'm leaning towards the G4, but I'm not sure how long that's going to last. I need to try them out in the Verizon store.
I love it's design, but imo this resolution is so unecessary for a phone yet, but nothing that would stop one from buying it. For me the problem is where i live, mobile devices are very expensive, but i guess i'll switch my Moto G 1st gen for the 3rd this year.
I'm gonna say it. I have had an LG-G4 since release, I had to get my first one replaced. Outside of that it has been the best phone I have ever had. I just swap out batteries and have 128gb of storage for the Camera. I agree with all of points made in this video. I wish more phones where made this consumer friendly. I plan on buying one or two more now that they have dropped in price. Stay classy,
The fact that Linus makes you buy his shirts via Amazon is genius. Shirt revenue + affiliate code kickback. No wonder they're moving into a warehouse :P
I don't wanna be "that guy" Linus, the G4 does support quick charge but you should have expanded on it cause it isn't as fast as previous quick charge devices like the note 4 and nexus 6.
I genuinely would put this at the top of my list for "phones I want to get when my upgrade is available, but that rear facing speaker is such a huge deal breaker for me. I had iPhones for a while and was constantly frustrated by the bottom mounted, then finally made the switch to a Moto X 2014 and fell in love with both the phone and Android. And now that I've had a phone with a front facing speaker, I really don't think I can ever go back to any phone that puts their speaker somewhere else. It makes such a huge difference. And given how much I disliked bottom mounted, I can't imagine how much I would hate rear facing. It's so frustrating that LG tried so hard to make a unique and user-friendly phone that works well in every regard, but still put the speakers facing away from the user. Maybe next time.
I've never experienced a front facing speaker phone, but if you're really interested in flagship user friendly phones I'd recommend the OnePlus One. In fact later this July the OnePlus 2 will be released via virtual reality. Just a suggestion mate!!
Eddy Granda I highly recommend you give them a shot if you get the chance! Especially if you watch a lot of videos and movies on your phone (I watch tons, which is a big part of why front-facing makes such a big difference to me), the difference is astounding. The sound is just so much clearer, since it's directed at you, instead of away or to one side of you. Interesting, I know the OPO had bottom facing, have they announced front facing for the OPT? I love a lot about the One Plus phones. Unfortunately I'm stuck on Verizon, so the chance of them releasing a CDMA, Verizon compatible version is slim. Cheers for the suggestion, though!
Jojojohan521 I think what you use the speakers for makes a huge difference in how much it will matter where they are located. Since I mostly use mine for movies and videos, having the speakers facing towards me is huge. You wouldn't believe the difference in sound quality between even a bottom mounted and a front facing setup if you're watching a movie. But if you're just listening to music then you can always just put your phone down so the speaker is facing up! So I guess, for me, it comes down to the fact that I like content consumption, especially videos, on my phone, so it makes a huge difference having front facing speakers.
Galaxy s6 edge 64 gb Platinum gold owner here. Galaxy s6/s6 edge and LG g4 are the coolest phones with the fantastic camera on the Market. LG gives you expandable storage and removable battery, but Samsung s6 does not give you expandable storage and removable battery but the s6 edge is really irresistible and futuristic design makes you crave. Both the phones are best.
I'm not sure if that's the case with the lg g4 (though I don't see why they would remove the feature), but on the g3, you could remove a lot of the bloatware, without the need of root. Maybe something to mention
DBrand sounds great, but I prefer Otterbox cases in all my devices. This sounds like my ideal device for my next phone, since I'll be buying a full priced phone with my financial aid refund this coming fall. I use prepaid Cricket Wireless.
I didn't know Linus had a micro.
Lol, he would put phones in his boxer.
Jimmy Peña He even put a sausage in his pants
Now I know why he likes micro ATX cases so much...bud dum tssssss
I never understood why a plasticy build is supposed to be a negative. The plastic doesn't crack and it can take a beating.
I kept thinking instead of Linus saying "G4's" he was saying "GeForce". Confused me a little haha

Truly an awesome phone. :) I'm glad LG sent one to me as well. You'll love it LinusTechTips :)

The N9-glance screen still smokes the WP-glance screen, compared to my 830~
eagletheblue I didn't say the 920 started the whole thing, but we Nokias are here to represent! Huah!
Zizi Mugen My G2 from 2013 also has double tap not sure who started it but lg were one of 1st
MrFrosts One of the first, yeah. Just gotta toss my 920 in when it isn't given credit for something awesome.
Love my dbrand skin on my oneplus one. I've customised the scheme to be carbon fibre black and red. Looks amazing, feels amazing!
i want to be able to edit 5k video at 120fps, this phone is fucking shit
i ment i wnat 2 edit 5k at 120fps on ma phone, dis one is not ear powerfulz 'nuff
lawn loom u just jelous of da awsom screen u iphone idiot!
Buy the 8K tv of LG and you could do even more.
Buy a pentium III.
***** yeah pentium g3258 is haswell
pentium iii is not made anymore
Just in case you dont know, Intel refreshes their CPUs every year
finally, i was checking the channel for a review yesterday ! :)
The carbon fiber skin looks so cheap and tacky.
KillerReviews97 I could not disagree more
Lord Awesome LOL, I have never seen someone describe a comment as being cheap and tacky but anyway, im not bashing the phone I just think the pattern of the carbon fiber does not add to the look but instead detracts from it.
***** Thanks, but I did make it clear that it was a skin and not the actual material used in the construction of the phone.
***** No worries mate :) Really wanted the g4 but a friend gave me his s5 so I stuck with that :)
I know its really late since you have uploaded this video but I am getting this cellphone tomorrow and I am from India and I really love the G4 Thanks for the video
skip to 1:00 to skip the usual Linus BS
No, no, no. You're gonna want to see that part.
No
I bought the LG G4 the day it came out, and I am not disappointed at all! That said, the glass screen protector that I bought to go with it shattered and began peeling within a few days.
P.S. I have not noticed any loss in performance whatsoever, loading is instant and the phone stays cool!
Anyone have terrible battery life on this phone? Like it won't last me a day at all
how long since you own it? you might need to buy a new battery
Forever Alone Been pretty sub par since the day I got it
RykoDimSim
are you a heavy user?
Forever Alone Well i was pretty heavy at first. All I do now is browse and check social media and shit. My Iphone 5 has had better days and Im just sad that I always need a powerbank for this phone.
RykoDimSim
then it might have been a software update thaat made battery life worse, i have a moto g 2014 and when it had android kitkat i got outstanding battery life, about four and a half hours of screen on time, and with lollipop it was shit, and now it runs marshmallow, it has improved but i dont get the same as i got with kitkat, and also it is now 8 month old so it makes sense that it doesnt last as long, but i still get three and a half hours
I find that the leather back really helps with how the build feels. Makes it feel less plastic
Corinn Heathers Samsung is working on an 11k display
That camera interface looks great. I love manual controls.
They ruined everything with lg g5
true. it looks so bad with that side mounted buttons.
the g5 looks like the g2, the g3 and g4 look much better than g5
+Ahmed Bilal Yup I know, at least the G4 price has dropped heaps now. Mid range smartphone price for still a very nice phone :-P
I have the G2,3 and 4. But, I'm furious about the G5. The screen is too small and the phone feels incomplete to me. Doesn't feel like a 'G Series' phone to me.
That fm tuner sounds amazing
why is Apple the only brand that can make a pretty phone? The iPhone's look like a piece of art. Samsung, lg, Motorola phones all look like plastic junk.
***** Thanks for sharing your opinion Alex.
You sir need to see the Galaxy S6.
It's what matters in the inside, not the outside.
My iPhone 6+ works flawlessly lol.
Alex, it's not about Working flawlessly, it's about performance and good specs.
Thanks so much Linus! I was waiting for your G4 review. I just ordered it! So excited :-D
How is the battery for you
Great
are g4 made in october/nov/dec 2015 has bootloop problem too? Please advise. I am planning to buy a g4 but doubtful because of the vbery famous bootloop problem that occur 7-9 months of use.
***** I appreciate that sir. Where can i see the hardware rev info? sorry, im kinda new to the world of gadgets.
Really helped a lot. Thank you so much! *****
I liked his videos again of the awesome intros to the product!
Would have appreciated some 808 bass, but I will let is slide in this case.
Also your delivery today is excellent
I'm very impressed with this phone. I'm still on a S4 (rooted) and the size is so good and the color scheme I made with Wanam. This is the only phone that looks like more of the same and doesn't have an overly colorful default theme. x.x
Got the phone for 2 weeks now, and I think i'm in Love
Nice review. I appreciate the enthusiasm you put into all the videos. Regarding the G4 some of the other reviewers have been overly critical. The G4 is a well rounded device. Like you I found very little to complain about.
i love the new/old kind of videos again
I really like how the camera automatically does a blurring effect in the background of photos and videos!! something my Note 3 can't do...
Elmo The Hellmo Do you know what "?" are?
HERO It's "Do you know what a '?' *is*?"
I have a g4 and I love it! Accurate and comical review as always, Linus.
I think you have to do a dbrand factory tour now!
God I miss my LG G4 so much. Was probably one of my favorite phones I've ever owned. Just a pleasant experience all around.
About time!
9:13 Oh Linus, I love you so much xD Never change
Now that was really good Linus
Loved the intro!
Could not get a better timing. Got my G4 a week ago! This phone is a beast imho! [=
Great review! Currently own the m9, but the OnePlus 2 looks pretty appealing!
Been waiting for this video
I really love the full-glass face of the phone...it would've been better to not have the LG logo on the bottom, though. Keep that on the back like the Nexus!
Quan Dang The difference is in the person that had them make the phone, the G4 is totally LG's so they put the logo up front to show it, on the nexus 5 the logo is on the back because they only made the phone on request by google. Atleast i think this is the case lol
G4 still kicking ass. Mine came with a leather back cover.
Very excited to see the new Nexus 2015 made by LG!
to think I got this phone December 2015 for $150 because some warehouse company didn't know the gem they had. Other then shit battery life its been a great phone.
Thats why you just swap out the batteries.
Omg I'm dying. Great job Linus media and keep up the good work :)
Best intro on UA-cam. Calling it.
I can't decide between the G4, S6 or M9. My favorite changes weekly. As of now, I'm leaning towards the G4, but I'm not sure how long that's going to last.
I need to try them out in the Verizon store.
Linus, please do a review of the pebble time. I know you spoke well of the other pebble watches. I would love to hear your opinion on the new one.
I bought this phone last week and its awsome!
I jumped on this from the g2. Can't believe how many features got left out
Im just finnish with the intro, and i got to say, I loved it :)
Is anyone else sad that the new strafe isn't in browns yet and hasn't gone on sale during the prime day sales? It makes me cry ;-;
The HTC m9 definitely suits you.
I've never experienced a front facing speaker phone, but if you're really interested in flagship user friendly phones I'd recommend the OnePlus One.
In fact later this July the OnePlus 2 will be released via virtual reality. Just a suggestion mate!!
TasteDatRainbow I never had front facing but the g4 speaker is very loud for a phone speaker, so im happy with it
Eddy Granda I highly recommend you give them a shot if you get the chance!
I think I like this one! Up for an upgrade in September, not thrilled with the other offerings for various reasons. This seems a-o.k.
I got the lg g4 4 days ago and i love it
Galaxy s6 edge 64 gb Platinum gold owner here. Both the phones are best.
got the G4 and got that exact Dbrand skin on the back of my phone... 😁
My mom used to have this HTC phone, this is when Angry Birds (the original) was new, it was *SO SLOW* that launching a bird took a minute to compute.
You are the best Linus my fellow Canadian
05:55 into the video Linus' schedule:
"Lynda.com FAP intgegrat(ion) (All Day)
And
"TBD FAP (all day)"
damn, that's some dedication
That intro joke was so bad it actually made me laugh haha
This intro is genious! Typical Linus!
loved the intro!!!
Do a review of the Turing phone!
Good review! Any hints about how well the battery last on a normal usage?
I'm not sure if that's the case with the lg g4 (though I don't see why they would remove the feature), but on the g3, you could remove a lot of the bloatware, without the need of root. Maybe something to mention
My brother needed a new phone, and this is what I suggested for him. I love this phone.
DBrand sounds great, but I prefer Otterbox cases in all my devices. This sounds like my ideal device for my next phone, since I'll be buying a full priced phone with my financial aid refund this coming fall. I use prepaid Cricket Wireless.
