I use maya 2023, unfortunately it doesn't work in my scene. When I create a visibility absolute overwrite (off) for the sun I get a total black scene (no sun, no shadows, no scene) when I include the sun and render the scene and apply the shadow matte material to my floor mesh, the floor does not have any transparency at all its all opaque (ever though i turned opaque off from the floor mesh properties) and I can see my skydome light's colour HDRI . Any ideas what might be wrong? Thank you for uploading this video
I use a directional light and a skydome, so when the skydome is off the directional is still casting a shadow. The opaqueness may just be because it’s rendering black. Try bringing your render into Photoshop and turning down the opacity. Hope you can get it to work!
It might not look like the alpha is missing because the render appears black, but it’s actually there! Just bring it into your post-production software and multiply the layer to see the effect. Hope that helps!
thank you! you are save my entire college life. This is very helpful
Great!! Happy to help!
Thank you so much for this :))
Very welcome!!

@@mycgtutor5845 I'll give that a go, thank you so much for our reply :)
How come your floor doesn’t have an alpha? Like I can’t isolate the shadow. The whole floor still has an alpha

@@mycgtutor5845 idk if it was a bug, but it was because I was rendering with GPU. When I switched to CPU it worked.
Thanks anyway!
in what format I should save it
Anything with transparency, png, exr, etc
