Yes! Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching! ~J
This is the BEST neckband tutorial I've ever seen! Thank you so much❤
Aw, so glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching! ~J

Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for the feedback!
I love this lady. I still refer to her original video for the V neck band. She’s such a good teacher ❤
Agreed! So glad you've found her videos helpful! ❤️ ~J
Haven’t sewn with stretch fabric for some time. Appreciate your common sense advice. Thank you
You are so welcome! ❤️ ~J
Excellent going to try new method. I always use a cotton spandex to make my T-shirts so I will try this method.
I put off watching this video, because life. So glad I watched! I've had trouble with ITY neckbands, so these hints are appreciated!
So glad you were able to watch it and found it helpful! ~J
Wonderful instructional video. This was a new concept for me to do neckbands this way. Noreen is wonderful presenter for fitting. I hope she will do more fit techniques!
She's got so much more planned! Glad you found it helpful !Thanks for watching! ❤️❤️
I struggle so much with neckbands, so thank you for these great tips! I’ve been marking eighth-points to more evenly stretch but that’s kind of a pain, so I like the way you clip it between the quarters when it’s on your machine.
What a great tip, right? Hope your neckband sewing is a bit smoother now! ❤️ ~J
This is brilliant, I will try this method out. Thank you for being so clear in your video. I love the idea of the folded edge to the raw edge to test the fit before sewing.
Yes! Such a great lil tip I never considered before! ❤️ Thanks for watching! ~J
I always sew with the band on top. That way, you can see the area of the neck you need to stretch across to get the band to fit. Also, it allows you to have a flat neckline to work over.
Once you've sewn enough neckbands with a variety of knit fabrics, you figure out the need for treating each type separately as far as the length of the neckband goes. It took me several years to figure this out. Having videos like this sure helps speed up the learning process when it comes to sewing with knits.
If you use actual ribbing instead of self fabric, that is another type of knit to figure out. I sewed a neckband into a nightie yesterday where I used the pattern piece instead of cutting a strip from selvage to selvage. It turned out a bit "gathered", but it's a nightie so I let it go. As I worked with the neckline, basting it in, pressing with steam to whip it back into shape, serging the edge of the neckband and topstitching it, the ribbing relaxed a bit so it will work fine.
I don't use a walking foot when sewing in the neckband. It's not necessary. I've never had the initial seamline "break" a thread as I sew it in with a 3.0 mm stitch length. This includes the topstitching. I've sewn on all kinds of knits such as cotton interlock, jersey, rayon/stretch (lycra or spandex), ITY, Ponte and 95% cotton/5% stretch (lycra or spandex). Never a problem in the neckband with multiple wash and wear.
Thank you for taking the time to share your discovery in handling different knit neckbands as well as all of your tips and tricks. So many will benefit from this video.
Thanks for watching! ❤️ ~J
Very well explained. If you don't teach, you should.
We're lucky to have her here, that's for sure! ☺️ ~J
Yesterday afternoon I set aside the top I am making. The neckband was the final piece and I couldn't decide whether to make a fold-over band (my first choice), or the version you made. This video was perfect because I believe I'll end up with a nice flat neckline, with hopefully no seam-ripping. Thank you!
Good luck!! We hope you're successful with gorgeous results! ❤️❤️ ~J
I love watching your videos! You are awesome!❤
She really is, thanks for watching! ~J

Hi Noreen! Wow, your video is so helpful. Thank you for mentioning that you normally fit the neckband to the shirt on a flat surface as I don't have a dress form, yet. You're a fantastic teacher! I look forward to more of your Technique Tuesday videos and I'll have to see if you have your own YT channel. Thank you so much!!!

Oh no! Hopefully last time was THE LAST TIME! ❤️ ~j
Thank you for the lovely tips
You're very welcome, thanks for stopping by! ~J
Loved the video! Is there any way you could shoot a quick tutorial on how you do this flat?
I’m glad you liked it! To do it flat I usually fold my shirt in half matching center front, shoulder seams and the center back. That way you get an entire front to back section to check your band on. Then just hold the band at the center front folded side up and stretch it around just the same as I’m doing it in the video 😊
So beautifull, thank you very much!!
Thank YOU! ❤️ ~j
So helpful!
So glad you think so, thank you! ~J
Thank you! ❤

Woo hoo! Let us know how it goes! ~J
Great video! You are a wonderful instructor.
She really is! Thanks for watching! ~J
I enjoyed this tutorial immensely, but before I assume anything, do you do both sides from the front? Or do you cut off the same amount from the opposite side? Or is the one cut enough for the entire band? thanks
Thank you! I cut the same amount from each side.
Thank you so much for the great instructions!
Yay! Thanks for watching! ~J
great video
So glad you think so, thank you! ~J
Thank you! That was so helpful!
Woo hoo! Glad you think so, thanks for watching! ~J
These are great tips! Keep them coming!
They'll keep coming! ❤️❤️ Thanks for watching! ~J
Thank you for a marvelous tutorial. I feel like I'm in the room with you! When you mention your long basting stitch, is it still a zigzag stitch? What width and length do you use? Or, if it's a straight stitch, what length do you prefer? Thanks so much!
Thanks! It’s just a long straight stitch. Anything easy to pull out later if needed 😊
Thank you for the great video!
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching! ~J
Excellent tutorial. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome, thanks for stopping by! ~J
Great info! Thank You.

Very helpful tips. Thank you for sharing.

@@LoveNotions Thank you!
I would like to see a hack for a wider neckband.
Good idea! ~J
Thank you for the great video. Do you remove your basting stitches. If not, what is your stitch settings?
You can sew over them and leave them or pull them out. They'll probably break at some point and then be easier to remove. ~J
Excellent going to try new method. I always use a cotton spandex to make my T-shirts so I will try this method. What typically is the width of the neck band that you sew? I know this varies is from Pattern to Pattern but I think we all have our favorites. I believe mine are too wide probably 3/4 of an inch finished and when you serge do you serge over your basting?.
Good questions! I will defer to Noreen's answer (but personally, I like ⅝-1" neckbands, depending on the pattern.) And when I serge, I go over everything. If you make it a different color from your serger thread, you should be able to find it easily to pull out. ~J
Do u ever interface the neckline? If so, how and why?
Nope, not necessary for knits, with the exception of a small bit at the V on a v-neck. Even knit interfacing isn't stretchy enough for something like that. ☺️ Good question! ~J
I am interested in seeing a low bust adjustment for your T-shirts.
The bodice fitting video in the playlist (featuring Sonata,) might be helpful! I've mentioned it to her, though, in case she wants to address it separately in the future! ~J
Okay, checked with Noreen, that other vid probably won't be super helpful for the Classic Tee. Is there a fitting issue you're trying to address? ~J
@@LoveNotions i’m having trouble getting darts in the correct spot.
Sorry for the delay, YT didn't let me know you replied! Classic Tee doesn't use darts for shaping, though, so if you need dart-specific help, you might try another resource. Here's a blog Noreen wrote on that! ~J
www.lovenotions.com/how-to-move-a-bust-dart
So. When you zigzag it. Is it then raw edge to raw edge ?
To attach the neckband? Yes, using the seam allowance of that particular pattern. ~J
So what would be your preferred seam allowance for the neck band? Do you show the neck band together? I don't do a lot of garment sewing!
Sew*
The seam allowance for this pattern is ⅜", I believe! ~J
How wide is the neckband 😊
She follows the pattern for final width, usually the finished measurement is between ¾" and 1". But every pattern may be different! ☺️ ~J
Cutting band width?
Noreen used the height recommended in the pattern, usually about 1.75" (and whatever you calculate your neckband width to be based on your fabric and neckline opening.) ~J
@@LoveNotions great tutorial! My first perfect neckband! The fold to the edge is magic!
