- A year and a half after having my son, I'm finally publishing The Secret Shadow and I'm SO glad I vlogged the experience of writing the first draft. This video is a "documentary style" content marathon where we're going to watch all the vlogs together from start to finish, and find out together: (1) how long did it take to write this book? (2) how much did it change from first draft to final? (3) what was the word count for first draft versus final / how many words did I add? (4) and how did it feel to write a book right after having a baby???

I have four kids and am a writer. It's definitely a challenge navigating writing and keeping up with the creativity and inspiration when you're tired and figuring out how to be a new mom, but it is a joy. You're an awesome author and mother. Keep up the great work! You're doing amazing!

It *is* such a huge challenge, but it’s so worth it! (I, too, have a hoard of goblins that make it… tricky.) I had a little guy almost a year ago and it’s taken me almost the whole year to get back into a healthy productive spot with my writing. This is definitely a helpful thing to watch!

So, I met you at Barnes and Noble where you were signing books ( I thought I had come across your book on TikTok but in retrospect it was a different book) I was already looking for a new "cozy fantasy" to read and so I immediately grabbed The Stolen Kingdom and read the back. I was interested right away and stood in line to get it signed. After taking the book home and reading it, I am so happy I happened to be there that day. It was exactly the kind of fantasy I was looking for and, being of middle eastern decent myself, it was so great to have representation in a fantasy novel. Thank you ❤

Bethany is so inspirational and has a warm community. She's also so open and so flexible. She has her ways of doing things all in writing, content creating and being a mom to Zion but she's very understanding of others and fully understand that people have different priorities and interests from her that can overlap a lot of times but she doesn't push or pull people. I think that's why her interviews work so well because she herself is a natural in balancing her sharing and listening skills and she knows what things to go more broad about with it still either be enjoyable, appropriate or coherent to the topic. She always try to add value into the community and at the same time be a safe comfortable space for other writers. I really don't regret watching multiple videos of her since then and then subscribing after. ❤

I skipped the parts I already saw, but this was interesting. I still don't know how you found the time/strength to do this. I am in awe, and I mean that. I'm disabled, and one little thing out of skew stops me for days/weeks. I've learned a few new things as well. Can't wait to read it.

I don't usually share the harder times but I have definitely gone off course many, many times during this book (it took six months longer than books used to take me if that tells you anything about me haha!) But I love the book Atomic Habits, it's really encouraged me during this new season, because it talks about how we don't have to make drastic changes to succeed, we just have to keep persevering and change/growth will happen. Definitely recommend it if you're curious :) And YAY, I hope you enjoy the story!
You are amazing! It took me nearly a year after giving birth to start meeting my goals again. 2022 was a really hard year for me. 2023 has been the rebirth of my creativity, and I am so, so glad to have it back. I can only hope that I don't sink back into that when baby number 2 gets here.
Thank you so much, but so are you! Creativity doesn't really work with us, it has it's own schedule, so the fact that you're able to come back to it is what counts! And as far as the future, we often need grace periods to just step back a bit/take a break, so if you need to take one, never feel bad about it!
I never realized that as a novice writer, it can be damn hard when your dreams and hopes of becoming a storyteller after 35 years of waiting rely on reader reviews of seven chapters from your first fiction novella.
