This was an awesome video and exactly what I needed to hear. I want to major in Japanese but I was feeling discouraged about pursuing it. Its nice to see someone else have that same passion for the language, even though it can be frustrating at times hahaha! Keep making videos!
Elizabeth Rose Thanks so much for the encouragement! I’m glad you found the video helpful. I’ve definitely had a lot of ups and downs with studying Japanese so the videos will keep on coming haha :) Best of luck to you with your studies!
Thank you! I just switched my major to Japanese (asian studies, but Japanese) and this really connected with me! I am an aspiring missionary. I've felt so uneasy with this change, but this made me feel a bit better!
thanks for this video. I've wanted to learn japanese since middle school (yes because of anime from the start) which blossomed into a overall passion. But it's not until now (28) that I finally decided to get to studying in college. I'm starting my studies now at home to get a good start.
Great video! Im currently in the middle of my korean studies bachelors and i felt like i was missing a big part of east asia and now decided to get both degrees!! itl maybe take a year or two longer but then i will be able to persue my passion for east asia and can do anything! thanks greetings from italy
Serving in the Japanese church is actually one of the main reasons I want to learn Japanese and go to Japan. There aren't many videos on UA-cam about the Japanese church, so hearing you talk about it pricked my ear. What I'm wondering is if it would be better to learn Japanese in a university in Japan than a university in America (that way I could use what I learn in class in my every day life). Thanks for the video!
Rebeccaれべか Hey Rebecca! Honestly, either will work fine. Of course more time in japan will be an overall plus but it isn’t an absolute necessity. I never studied abroad during my 3 years of studying japanese in America but I made sure I knew the basics well so that when I moved here I was set up for success.
G'day from Melbourne, Australia 🦘🇭🇲 I'm fluent in English because I was born and raised here in Australia. I know some French too, because I learnt it from my parents, because they went to a French school, and lived in France. I'm about to complete my Diploma of Japanese course at the end of this year, and start my Bachelor's degree of Japanese.
I'm planning to apply for a Japanese major now, your video really helps me. And btw, as a Chinese speaker, 漢字 just isn't a big deal at all, kinda lucky
It very much depends on university. I just finished a 4 year degree in Japan Studies and am at a N4 level at best, so I am technically only at what you refer to as a "survival level".
@k k Yea it did include language but the intention was just to make us able to translate texts when sitting with a dictionary. We had a semester abroad but since our level already was very low then it only helped getting on a barely-conversational level.
@k k I'm really thinking about going and getting a major in Japanese studies I may be a weeb but I'm super interested in the culture difference and how their world worked different than ours here in the u.s
Hey Anthony, I'm a freshman in uni and I've had a very similar background to you (even 2 years in highschool). How did you get involved with a local church and is your JET job enjoyable?
Hey Ben, Getting involved in a local church is easy. Just show up. People might be shy and hesitant to talk to you especially if you are obviously foreign but they’ll eventually warm up to you. I enjoy certain aspects of being an ALT. I love kids and I think it’s very fair pair for the work, but if you’ve watched some of my more recent videos you can see I’m changing jobs this summer. Thanks for watching hope this helps!
I assume you had to take other classes with learning Japanese as a language and all, such as Japanese history? aside from that, my main question is when we major in Foreign Language, are we allowed to enter without any prior knowledge for that language? I understand it would be more difficult but I'm looking into learning 2 more languages as I already speak fluent English and Arabic. Thank you for the video it's really useful
Yeah I also studied Japanese history and modern culture but only a class or two nothing too major. Usually no prior knowledge of the language is required.
Hi I want to major in Japanese because I want to study in Japan but I don't want to continue this field for higher education I want to change my field later when I get to Japan Is it a good idea or not? I personally know a little bit Japanese and I love everything about japan
I think that's a great idea. It may also be a good idea to minor in Japanese and major in something that could get you a job easier once you get here. But either way if your goal is to live in Japan studying Japanese before you get here will make the transition so much smoother.
Anthony in Akita thanks for your answering🙏🏻 is there any scholarship for japanese?Cuz at first I want to study Japanese in Japan and after a couple of years I wanna change it to something else but until then my japanese will be improved and I can find jobs to support myself even if I loose scholarship
That's not true... Japanese American... Can't speak Japanese.. but speak bahasa Indonesia karena dua tahun yang lalu aku dapat beasiswa dari pemerintah Indonesia untuk belajar bahasa Indonesia di Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang

@@Anthony-wk7cn Okay, thanks!
@@Anthony-wk7cn where did you study?
This is a large motivation for me as well, the people of Japan need to hear about Christ, so I’d love to learn the language to share the gospel

@@Anthony-wk7cn Thanks! I've never heard of many Christian youtubers in Japan from this perspective so I thought I'd ask.
what are you doing in Japan sir,, are you teaching?
What are you doing now Anthony? How are you doing?
I plan on minoring in Japanese. I just worry that it will be to difficult.
Do your best and you'll be fine! Good luck!
