There's a diy being built near me in an area that's been lacking a skate park for as long as I can remember, lived here probably 25 years. Local guy made a deal with the city, they let him build in an existing city park, if he provided the labor and built the obstacles the city would pour a basketball court sized flat. Fast forward to now, he held up his end, crowdfunded the whole thing and now the city is backing out and instead only offering to partially pay to have the flat poured. It's really sad, all these obstacles just sitting in a gravel lot waiting to be used as the city has left the skaters here up a creek.
That's tragic for shure but at least they aren't giving you the go ahead just to back out AFTER the DIY is built. That's what the city I've spent my life in has been doing for the past 20+ years.... yeah yall can build here but in 6 months to a year we are going to tear it down with zero warning and then build over it, rinse and repeat.

Got my youngest a real complete yesterday. He can ride around well enough and seems to like it well enough to justify a good setup now. We went to the local park which I havent looked at in years. Not a lot there just those a couple of those metal ramps and obstacles. A big square rail and a pretty bad metal manual pad then a kicker you cant really use unless you wanna smack into the fence. Instantly thought about building some more stuff there for him to learn on and stuff to play around on since nothing there is really setup for that. Its barely even a skatepark tbh. Wondering if I should bother asking the city or just start building stuff.
Pretty happy now all my kids skate even my baby boy.
i say just build it. surely by explaining you want your own kid to learn on it they could have some compassion (can't imagine anyone reporting something like that anyways). by the sounds of it, it is a crap park. make it better!
@@Inexpressable yeah im just gonna add some stuff and see what happens. It needs some real beginner rails some and quarter-pipes and parking blocks and stuff like that. Was watching a teenager there and the one rail is like 2feet tall fairly wide square. Seemed to be way too much to learn on. A lot of our good skate spots have been torn down or the beat one turned into a cop shop. Since the slate park is there in town kinda no one wants to let kids skate at the few ok spots. I do at night and once in a while during the day because I dont care but kids get ran off.
He was really good at scooting super agile went way fast. Hes having a bit of trouble translating that to the skateboard but he already knows how to fall and wants to go fast so in my book thats a pretty good start.
@@666nacirema666 if they have a solid foundation from scooting then yeah they can obviously be a good skater too! glad that he can fall well that took me a while.
just some parking blocks would be sick, but to me they can be scary with the double sides, I like a curb I can jump off of.
