I love the look of the Sashiko-stitched binding! Curious…Do think that you could adjust the space length as you get close to the corners in order to make sure that you catch the binding before pivoting? I typically hand-stitch my quilt bindings to the back, but I’m going to try that on wall hangings where there i# no wear-and-tear. I was recently lucky to find a great deal on a Sashiko 2-only $900 CDN)-on Kijiji (like Craig’s List). I love the way you demonstrate and explain your techniques. You voice and manner are perfect for tutorials such as this. I hope to see more Sashiko videos on your channel. Happy stitching, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Thanks for the demo. Have you since tried setting the machine to its Needle Down position for the binding to give more precision and control in the turn? I’m about to try putting in a binding now. And I’m using a contrasting color for added “ooooh” factor. ✌️
Carolina, I know this an older video, but I’m just now getting to use my babylock sashiko, and I love it! When binding, it tends to freeze up when going over thicker spots.. Any advice would be appreciated
When mine freezes up on anything I do, I slowly turn the hand crank and stitch several stitches that way. Then I can usually use the foot pedal again. When I stitch binding this way, I'm stitching the binding (two layers of fabric), the top, the batting, and the backing. That is a lot of layers, but doable. However, if you're stitching the part where the binding folds over itself, you're adding 4 more layers of fabric. That's probably what is jamming the machine. Try to stitch in the "quilt" part, not the "binding" part, if that makes sense? You're just stitching down the fold of the binding, not stitching through all the layers of binding. ❤️
I tried binding with the Sashiko but I got loops on top. I suspect that I may have forgotten to set my presser foot height back to 0 after last use or maybe it was my thread (it was new, Superior Fantastico Trilobal Polyester). I am going to practice on a piece later today to see if it was the presser foot height. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for your video. I've had my machine for about a year and haven't used it one time! EEEEK! But, I now have a quilt I want to use it on . Can I ask why you don't pivot with the needle down? I noticed it on other videos too, so it made me curious. Thanks!
I don't have one of these but I found Richard Tharp has a video where he shows how to do some different things with this machine that I think will help with turning corners. Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/UD55dnhgEuM/v-deo.html The cost for such a specialized machine keeps me from getting one on my senior income. Maybe one day in the future...
Love that machine! Maybe I’ll put it on my Christmas list!!

You are right, that is a cute stitch. Looks like stitches from my grandmother's era that, she did by hand. 👍
Yes! Looks like hand quilting on the top ... without having to hand quilt!

Yes! Since making this video, I have, and it works great!
Very cool sewing machine! Thanks for sharing!
I'm having SEW much fun with it! 🥰

My guess would be presser foot height as well. Hopefully you were able to figure it out! 🥰

Great question! I probably could... this just felt easier at the time...
I haven’t gotten it out of the box yet. Thanks for the videos
Oh!! Once you take it out, you'll never want to put it away! Clear off some space on the sewing table! 😍
Tell us you’re using it now right? Best way to get to know it is to dive in and do some experimenting on scraps and test stitches. Fun fun fun!!
Nice... I like this binding method better than using the binding tools. What weight thread are you using?
This is just regulat 50wt piecing thread. 🥰
Great job! Love the look!
Thanks! I was so excited when I figured out how to do it!! 🥰
What weight thread are you using?
Oh, this was a while ago ... but I have used everything from 60wt to 12wt on this machine... 🥰
@@CarolinaMoore Thank you for answering I realized after I ask just how long ago that video was made. Your work is beautiful
Thank you! And, sometimes I am able to remember those details... but not always. 🥰

I know what you mean! I wish I had an unlimited budget for quilting toys! 😍
