I’ve been wanting a Sashiko machine for a year or so - I finally got one yesterday. I’ve been watching UA-cam videos non-stop since then. Yours is THE BEST. Thank you for your clear and thorough explanations on what this machine id capable of.
You clearly explain the workings of the Sashiko machine in a very thorough explanation .. best video I have seen, thank you. I would really love to get a Sashiko machine, but I want to see how flexible it is for me to use in a creative way.
thank you so much for this class it was great it taught me so much everything i needed to know i can not thank you enough im ready to use my machine now
This is a superb video. I was nervous of my machine at first but now I am doing a large quilt (quilt as you go) and the effect is wonderful. Jan, I have noted what you have said about QAYG but I am not truly following your method for joining the blocks. I am a devoted Babylock owner and have, amongst others, a Triumph which I love. Can you give me a bit more help in relation of joining the blocks please.
Hi Jacqui. Once the blocks are complete, stitch them together, wrong sides together, using a 4 thread overlock and decorative thread (I used Woolly Lock) in both upper and lower loopers. Join into stripe, then stitch the straps together in the same way.
I can remember when these first came out for 250$ to 350$....I made the mistake of thinking they would be going down in price since it was a dedicated stitch. 😢
Just bought a used machine: haven't used it yet and find your video very helpful and encouraging. You mentioned using a Bias Binder attachment, please share what brand / manufactuer model you use?
thanks for the demonstration...I was eyeing your wooly nylon overlock stitching to join the QAYG blocks...can you connect me to how to achieve that..thanks
Is there a way to know when to replace your needle? I've been sewing approximately 12 hours on the same needle and notice that the thread is randomly breaking while sewing on tightly woven batiks (which could also be the problem?).Other than that I love this machine! Thanks for the excellent video.
I've been watching a lot of videos and somewhere I learned that you only have to replace a needle when it breaks. I also learned that batik fabric is the hardest to stitch through as it is so dense or tightly woven. This machine does better with a little looser weave than batik. The thread might not be strong enough. You could try a different thread.
So this model doesn't do a chain stitch?? What model is this one exactly, so I know what to look for and where to find one. Beautiful job on the video and so helpful!
@@overlockjan23 ok sounds great! If I were to purchase one, will the machine have the 2 on it? Just wondering how I can make sure I'm getting the updated one and not the other.
I have trouble with my needle breaking, and a lot of trouble putting the needle back in, and have only used my machine a few times. I love it but don’t know where to turn for help. Any ideas?
Because it is not free motion, this does not really apply. The King sized quilt. with the appropriate "bicycle clips" type holder will happily fit in the throat. We also find, as you're relying on feed dogs to transport the fabric, that QAYG is more appropriate for decorative quilting.
What happens if I opened the bobbin compartment before the machine was turned on. Now I don't have lights coming on when I turn the machine on. I'm assuming it's jammed below. I've only just bought the machine!!!

Thank you Jan. So well explained. I have had mine for 4 yrs and my QAYG quilts are the envy of my sewing friends.
Just bought machine. Great job and thank you for this educational opportunity!
Now I can use my machine after viewing this. Thank you
Fabulous tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing! What an amazing machine!
Very clearly explained, thank you. Now I have to be brave and actually turn my machine on :-)
Very helpful video. I don't have the machine yet, but hoping to in the future!
Great video. Nice review for those of use with a Sashiko.
Very helpful information! Thank you!
I love how your eyes light up when you show the bunny quilt!
Thank you! Still thinking about the machine!
Can’t wait to try mine!
Fascinating that this machine exists. I’m just learning the handwork.
Loved the demo
Thank you and I hope to play with my sashiko machine more often.

I used the babylock double fold binder.
Estimada , hermoso trabajo que se puede hacer con esa máquina, podría mandarme información donde verla y poder comprarla, vivo en chile, gracias
Hi Patricia. Your local sewing machine shop will be able to tell you where in Chile you can buy one.

Hi Sandra, the quilt instructions are in the "campus" section on www.babylock.co.uk
Woolly Lock is available from any UK babylock dealer.
@@overlockjan23 thanks..i have gone to the campus link, its offered as an academy course.
Very good video! Learned a lot! Quick Q: can the needle be changed to the size appropriate for the thread? Or does it handle only one size of needle?
Only one size of needle.

There's only one model available now. Stay safe!
@@overlockjan23 oh ok thanks.
I had read there was a Babylock 2 as well so I was wondering what the difference was between them.
@@quilter6805 the Sashiko 2 is the only one sold now. They improved the features, and added the single stitch feature that's in the video.

Hi Allie. It's most unusual for the needle to break, so it would be worth getting your dealer to take a look at it.
Needed to have a deeper throat to be able do king quilts...

Hi Kate. Close the bobbin door, and the lights should come on.
