Jack I'm an old granny 82 years old and I really enjoy watching your videos. I can tell you and your little brother are being raised with dry loving parents as you both are well mannered and show love to each other. Thank you all for sharing your videos. Big hug to you all, granny
It's so cool to let your little brother help as much as he can..i was a little brother too.. All it needs is a floor pan they're easy to replace I've done it a few times well worth it..have as much fun as you can..one day you'll be all grown up.. cheers 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great job on getting that VW running, Jack. I had to laugh when the battery fell out! Back in the 80s my husband restored VW Beetles. We had a '65 that the floor was rusty but he restored the body and put a new paint job on it so it looked great on the outside. I was concerned about the rusty floor under the battery but he said no problem. One day I was driving it and it did a sudden death. I pulled over and a gentleman came running up to my car and told me a battery just fell out of my car. Well that explained why it quit running. I was not amused at the time, but we've gotten a lot of laughs out of it since then. I am a 76 year old woman, but I love to watch your videos. I grew up with a dad and husband who liked to work on cars, so I admire you for all you are learning. You have a wonderful dad!
I enjoyed your story! Memories that will last a lifetime. A perfect example of never taking life too seriously 🙂 It's so refreshing seeing this young boy have a proper, healthy childhood with a caring father figure.
See that? You saw it coming didn't you. haha I'm 72 and my brother ran old cars around my old pasture. One year hus "volksie" took the win, last man standing sort of thing. hahaha I guess that's why you and me are here.
Any practical project that involves learning and gaining new skills for a young man is priceless. You have a win there Jack. Look forward to future progress.👍
It is so refreshing to watch these kids grow up just like we did in the 60's and 70's. With Morals, respect and a sense for work and above all Family values. I can see these kids drinking out of the water hose and outside playing and building stuff. Great Family.
Reminds me of trying to get my 641/2 mustang started with my dad! Thank GOD for Emory nail files to clean the points. You are a very talented young man Jack! Your father is teaching you well and you are learning! I’m proud of you and I love your videos! ❤
AND also the License plate indicates it was licensed in California in early-mid 1973 (as indicated by the G starting the letters) . Those are nifty plates! More that worth the T-shirt! My sister had a '74 Super Beetle in that orange. Great original color!
Good for you for taking on a project like this! My first car was a 1974 VW bug. It was $400 bucks, and I bought it by selling my 4-H steer at auction when I was 16 years old (a long long long time ago!). It was a project car for sure! No fenders, no breaks and more. My dad and I got it running great and found parts from a local junk yard. Lasted many many years until it got smashed by a snow plow. ~ Great memories as my dad has passed now. So happy to see you out there working on this project with your dad. I see your's is a super-beetle by the way the spare tire is sitting. The floor is made separate floor pans/panels that can be replaced. Looking forward to seeing more videos of this project in the future. :)
Sweet deal great work getting it running and rolling. I suggest leaving the engine right where it is, replacing the floor panels and start building yourself a street legal "Baha" Bug!!
I vote for Pasture Bug. When I was your age (in the early 70's) I had a Pasture Corvair that I had a blast in. If all else fails you could always build a dune buggy. Looks like you're becoming quite the wheeler dealer Jack.
Whatever you do save the vacuum advance distributor. I have rebuilt several. People loved to tear those out and put a centrifical Bosch 009 distrubtor and they never run right. If you can get it back to original and bring the chirp back then you know you have it dialed. Also there is a flap system in the air housing that is attached by a rod to a thermostat below the right side of the block. This is what allowes the engine to warm up. Most of the time people ripped those out because if they go bad the engine gets hot and will seize up if that thermostat fails. People always complained they had no heat because people tore all that stuff out because you had to change that thermostat regularly to protect the engine.
And here's why dads like for their teenage daughters to date a guy who drives a Beetle. 1) The seats are separated by the hand brake, the shift knob, and the tunnel so there's no snuggling. 2) It doesn't go fast enough to get into any trouble. 3) When the guy is driving it his arms and legs are busy steering, shifting, and working the clutch - you can't drive this with one arm around the girl (or texting or talking on the phone). 4) The back seat is really small. Wink wink. 5) They never break down on a deserted road because you can always push start it (as they did). So yes, give it to your little brother.
please excuse my language but, Holy S***!!! when he opened that hood!!! It was that rat king's castle. I;ve never seen it that bad! You guys are so much fun to watch. love the bond you have with your kids, it;s so great to see!
I teared up when that old VW engine sputtered to life. How many youngsters even know how to pull or push start a manual transmission car? Love these adventures and videos. Oh, and the "transition" was very well done too! Have fun, be safe!
Jack, Love watching your ambition for older cars. My brother has always been like that too. He’s 79 now and it’s kept him inspired all 79 years! He has cars, trucks, tractors, mowers he’s restored or restoring. He was really young when he got interested. AJ I saw you tinkering too! You have a couple good teachers too! It keeps him going because he can’t sit still.
Jack, I am a younger granny of 68 years old and in 1972 I got my first car and even though I am a girl my Dad taught me how to change the tire, tune up the engine, disassemble clean and reassemble my carburetor and fuel pump. Later on I learned how to remove and replace the brake master cylinder in a Kharman Ghia. Oh yeah! My first car was a 1967 VW Beetle. Dark blue and I miss it.
I grew up in Brazil back in the 70's and 80's. Volkswagen "Fusca" (That is the name of the Beetle there) was EXTREMELY popular exactly because of that! Strong, very dependable engine and body extremely resistant to the elements. Congratulations Jack! your videos are so uplifting and filled with positivism! God bless you and your family!
It’s all win-win you got it running no matter what the outcome is and I love how your dad helps you watch is over you and gives you a hand you ask or need it but it still lets you take care of your responsibilities. I love it.
This was great! Jack, is there anything you can’t do??? Losing the battery at the end was hilarious and the floor mat comment by Dad too! Keep up the great work, guys and we look forward to seeing next chapter of “Herbie!”
It's cool watching you and your Dad. Having a brother along with you is nice. AJ I think that's his name. I bet it's nice having your dad being your best friend. That is so cool to see.
I have not celebrated and cheered on a video before, but I had a great time watching Jack get that VW running! This is my favorite video of the month. Way to go, Jack!!
I'm glad to see people my age working on cars. I'm actually looking for a project car currently to work on and learn more about auto repair. I find your guys videos very helpful, interesting, and inspiring. Keep up the good work!
After the throttle linkage came apart I once rode 5 miles on the rear bumper of a bug while my friend drove and I operated the throttle, because it beat walking that far! (Couldn't pick up a cell phone for a "Hey Dad" in 1982). Back in the day it was easy to get a brand new floor pan for an old bug, but I don't know if that is still true.
I would do the Engine swap to another Bug...besides the Floorpan the Interior needs everything. I don't remember if the 72's had a 1500cc or they were bigger. If bigger put it in a pre-70's bug. You guys have a fun life...
in 1987 I bought a '71 VW Bug, powder blue, for $75. It lasted one week -- my stepfather assured me he could fix it. He could not. That was the happiest week of my life at that time, and the saddest couple of years watching it rust in our driveway afterward. I hope you get this VW running, just for own nostalgia's sake.
Used to love old salvage yards. When I was in my teens, had a 65 belair. Came from Iowa. One of the brake lines rusted out. Found a yard that had the same car on its side with the line I needed. They charged me one dollar! Those days are gone. Enjoy watching!
You knew that battery wasn't going to stay in there FOREVER, Jack !!! . . . but I loved seeing you smile so much today - that's what being a kid is all about. ALSO, those sunroof bugs are fairly rare - keep it and put some metal over the holes in the floor, get a way to start it and turn it off and you can ride it around the farm. ( just don't make a UA-cam video of it, like you said - we'll believe you !!! )
I think your friend came out ahead on that deal XD but hope you enjoy working on a massive part of automotive history. Edit: I did not think you'd get that thing running lol that was freaking awesome!!!
Very cool to start off what it was and to not only get it running but to be able to make it move under it's own power is a win win. The look on Jack's face when the fuel line came off is funny and his Instinct to head in the direction to shut the car off is epic. To top it all off it couldn't off ended any better. Fix what you got and it will be well worth it. Great video 👍
brilliant video again jack. dad has taught you well!! good gang ove guys! dad living /learning /teaching. .... jack showing a great life with doing real things. aj watching, driving his rc, learning about cars, AND being a great cameraman..... well done to you all .. x
So awesome to see you working with your Dad and the confidence you have in your skills! Great trade and now all you need a body for the engine and transmission! I know that with your skill set you can build the floor and brackets/seats! Looking forward to see more Dad/Son work!
fun stuff Jack. Save the nicest bug out of your field bugs, keep the others dry and out of the weeds, they're all getting worth more and harder to find parts for.
Jack I have to say the guy who got the T-shirt got the better deal! I'm not sure you can even get parts from that VW bug. My husband took two VW bugs, took the best parts and built me I really neat bug. He painted it metal flake blue. I so regret selling that car 😮😭 I'm wishing you good luck but I don't think it's going to work. I like your little green car that you are working on.
Wow. What a find. Nice to see it has a factory sunroof. How cool. VW put foam in the C pillar which absorbed water and made rust. It's difficult to replace the C pillar metal but would be worth it in my opinion due to the sunroof or you could cut it out.
72 super beetle factory sunroof.. thats a good engine.. worth at least 500 where im from.. 1600 dual port... also a good engine to rebuild.. take the trans and engine and scrap the rest
My first car 72 came out in 73 . It was my dream car . Bought it from summer jobs . Had it before i could drive it . Use to sit in it clean it hang out in it till i turned 15 to drive with sn adult . Brings back good memories. Pretty cool guys .
Good work! That's a fair exchange, even a good one! These things can be put back together easy-peazy! BTW, its a "Super Beetle". The lower grill below the bumper is the dead give-away. The front boot has more space. From '73 on, the Super Beetle had a curved front windshield w/bigger Dash board and the regular Beetle did not. I had a '72 Super Beetle myself in High school in the 70's. Oh yeah, and up to that point the '72 had the most horsepower of the Beetle series (still not much)
This video was so much fun. Love seeing you and your dad working together. I use to have a 66 corvair, back in 2000. another car with an aircooled engine in the rear of the car. My ex is a red seal mechanic and I learned so much and was so fun to hang around the shop and get to knowing how to fix the belt when it would come off and so much more. How to drive with two feet to keep the engine running as it would stall before I could get it into the shop on the other side of town . Driving fast was fun too. Like it was driving that little Volkswagen around the field 😊❤️
Wearing your hoodie now. Turns out it’s my favorite one. Glad you found a new project. Thanks for the content. Jesus is the way the truth and the life 💚
The VW Bug is fine. The interior has the classic Rustic Look - heavy on the rust. If she'll run - she's worth saving! Oh yeah! At 9:30 the lubsters, I saw those in action when I was a kid. Havent seen anymore in eons and eons.
This kid makes me realize that a simple life can be the happiest life. I see more joy in his eyes fixing cars than I see in most people’s eyes each year.
Great video Jack and Dad AJ too. If you have VWs with out engines Id do a swap if they can be made legal as you'll need something to drive to school after a while that's good on gas and cheap on insurance. They do make replacement or fix it floor pans for old VWs Muskie could probably tell you where to order or Tony Fitzees's fabrication has several U-Tubes on making floor pans from scrap sheet metal . Both are great vids Congratulations on getting it running. I miss Oklahoma good to see a bit of the country around there again.

Great job buddy. 😎👍🏻
I have So Many memories of the 70's era VW bugs! Learned to drive in one, the neighbors had one too.
Many Adventures and mis adventures too.
You could do a restoration job so it looks like the bug in “The Shining” film.
I love the vids you guys make. They’re just so real and wholesome. Keep it up.
HERBIE!!
Wearing your hoodie now. Turns out it’s my favorite one. Glad you found a new project. Thanks for the content.
Jesus is the way the truth and the life 💚
its a volkswagon ti will run again
I feel good every time I see you two working together. Thank you for sharing.
Nice
Oh my you have to save the VW Bug…it’s so fun to see you guys getting it going! There’s got to be lots of parts available. Great job guys!❤❤
Pull the engine and make a dune buggy for “not driving” around the yard!
The body panels look to be in decent shape, doors look surprisingly good. Floor pans aren't over expensive, that's a plus.
Bro how old are you, because I'm 15 and all I do is homestead.
15
No offense but when I first saw your videos I thought you were like 9.
The VW Bug is fine. The interior has the classic Rustic Look - heavy on the rust. If she'll run - she's worth saving! Oh yeah!
At 9:30 the lubsters, I saw those in action when I was a kid. Havent seen anymore in eons and eons.
😂 guys this was so cool,I enjoyed the ride. Great job Jack and your dado and little brother are so funny. Love the family. God bless yall.
Good job getting the bug up and running. Can't wait to see what y'all do with it. HAPPY EASTER!
