Very brilliant concept. It can actually be applied when one is raising his hands in the" i don't want any trouble manner" right above his chest. It reminds me of the shortest possible distance as well. Thanks.👋
Love the channel sir.You are skilled yet not boastful, extremely fightsmart without deriding other systems. I am a new subscriber and am having a ball playing catch up.Thank you sir.
I like your approach very much. I think you are right: concepts like this are very important no matter which martial art you practice. What you say reminds me something one great teacher used to say to us: do the technique you HAVE not the technique you WANT
Found this video very interesting n practical the concepts of street fighting. I agree your emphasis that protecting oneself on the street is unpredictable n unrehearsed as compared to training in a controlled environment such as a dojo. Kudos to you for providing these videos. Looking forward to your next one.
Excellent advice as always. Not sure if it’s been mentioned already, but there is a system that utilises this concept as its primary methodology. It’s known as CAW. Closest Available Weapon. Strike with the closest available limb for maximum chances of landing effective blows. So a trademark may be hard lol nevertheless great vid. Keep it up, Sifu.
This is some "smart" sensible stuff. It also seems that the two of you are really genuine and "nice" guys. Thank you for putting the video together for us as novices to learn from.
Punching from where your hands lie, even if the hit connects, won't it be weaker than winding it up ? Trade-off of speed vs force ? How do you train for applying power in such strikes ?
Correct. There is a trade off with power. Although you need to focus on short distance power and multiple strikes in combinations. Remember the idea is Multiple punches to overwhelm your attacker.
When using multiple strikes, momentum builds up as your moving, just like a ball on the end of a string the more momentum the kore force the more power. Even in short range shots. Great video.
In order for this to work, you have to have really good power generation. This "hit from where your hands lie" and "always press forward" is a really core idea in Wing Chun ...which I started back in '79, but I never really got good enough at power generation ...until I began working Escrima with Rene Latosa, and later with an escrimador, boxer and MMA coach, Martin Torres. As you say, it's not about style, it's a concept. To make it effective you have to develop "short power" ...and it looks like you really have it. Love your videos!
Exactly, the strike comes straight from where it was. I've seen people confuse the straight punching with punches coming straight from the center-line of your body. What champion have you seen that does that? Nobody! But their punches come straight from where they were at. Of course a hook is not a straight punch per say; but done properly, it doesn't come from left field either. Almost every kickboxer I fought, did not understand this, but almost every boxer did; whereas, they were able to get hits in from time to time.
Hope your paying him good, your helper. (Poor guy takes a beating)Good job though. Good to see someone deal with realistic circumstances. I might actually learn something usable. Tkanks. Keep em coming
Another technique for “invisible” striking is by keeping your hands in constant motion before you strike. It is MUCH harder see acceleration of a technique than it is to see a static hand suddenly start moving.
if i use this stuff in real life... i will be known as a Dangerous Winner. i am Known as a Dangerous Winner. thanks Sifu Mark..and your Wing Chun Friends. keep this stuff coming.
Really interesting one, thanks. Based on something you always demonstrate in all of your (counter) attacks, which are the most effective/advantageous strike combos? I appreciate that it's all dynamic, but maybe you could recommend a sequence? Cheers.
Amazing combinations I love Wing Chun. I think Wing Chun mixed with Muay Thai is Lethal. I would say Sifu Mark Philips is truly an amazing instructor. I for one wish I lived in England just to train with him. I watch his excellent videos regularly and I am amazed by his excellent skills combinations etc. Mark Philips is a true ambassador to the Martial Arts and I truly thank him for sharing his martial arts skills. I wish him all the best. Phillip.
brilliant but only to a point, I am very strong and the hand speed thing here is great, strike from where you are, a simple thing that should be drilled into the mind. If I get a hold of both hands like you did I am likely to start slaming them home from the cheap seats because it is gonna hurt a lot, but I am going to try to dive you off balance while I am hitting you so you can't strike back very hard.
Is there much power in those strikes?... although it does make a lot sense what you say.. shouldn’t we try and end the fight as quickly as possible? Hard to throw powerful punches without the shoulders and hips involved...
Some very good points. However the victim had no training. I always teach how to fight with your back to the wall. This be a big advantage against more than 1 attacker. If your back is to the wall a second attacker can't get behind you. Also you exert tremendous power coming off the wall. Has worked very well for me in the past !
Hi Dr MP, I'm way off the topic here, but who provides the subtitles for your videos if I may ask..? Is it a global UA-cam thing or is it private? There's some very weird words coming on display... 🤔 Kindest regards Thinus
Great advice, as always, but I notice that in a lot of your videos you strike to the pectoral muscles. What are the advantages of these strikes? Are they nerve strikes?
Thank you, I have been trying to tell people this for years but they often are too "hung up" on style and "proper technique". Do whatever it takes to survive. There is an old saying attributed to Okinawan karate - "often the best karate is the ugliest karate".
once again this makes perfect sense, is practical, real and, if practiced, deadly. every time i ck out this site i either review something that is helpful or new and eye-opening.
I’m. 66 year old guy but in decent shape for my age haven’t been in a fight for 50 years I need training just in case the world is a dangerous place these days
While hitting from where the hands lie, or kicking from where the feet are, collectively telegraph less than priming a punch or kick tend to telegraph, an experienced/intelligent fighter will still be able to anticipate hand movements and kicking possibilities within range, even if they aren't telegraphed. So, all of these principles you've demonstrated presuppose that you're fighting an idiot, which I suppose is a good assumption since many who do fight on the street are not exactly smart types. :)
Heya, can I ask your opinion about GM Sam Kwok? Since he is kinda the big name in British wing chun, I was curious if you've met him, what you think of the students that come out of his schools, the quality of the training, etc. Edit: Not asking this with the intention of stirring drama, but since I originally trained at one of his schools, and you are probably the most highly respected WC youtuber out there, I'm very interested in your thoughts..!
Got a question how do you deal with this situation 3 months ago person living in my block was playing music way too loud 24 hours 3 nights in a row, On the second day asked him to turn the music down he threaten me with a hockey stick 4 days later he tried to kill my neighbour by smashing his head wide open Then about 2 weeks later he threatened me on the bus and and by the shops where I live 3 months on he still living in the block the police haven't taken any action yet and the council won't move him Again he has threatening me but now he's also threatening my other female neighbours Can't live in my flat , on edge going to the shops , he know so many people around my area So now frightened that other people might be involved
"Efficiency buys me time, time buys me safety" Dr Mark Philips. Thank you sifu
The only guy who I will take the time to watch.
Thank you very much Sifu. Telegraphing any strike can get you in a lot of trouble in the streets. I agree with your video 100%.
Maximum efficiency with minimum effort, what your teaching is so very important, thank you sir!!
Very brilliant concept. It can actually be applied when one is raising his hands in the" i don't want any trouble manner" right above his chest. It reminds me of the shortest possible distance as well. Thanks.👋
Nick is much thinner now... you have been beating the pies out of him
😏

Your partner lost some weight! Outstanding! Time buys me options. Outstanding video Sifu.
Thank you.
your sparring partner's whole body is aching.
hes like no homo please
The "mind" is the most powerful weapon in the world. Awareness, intuition, is far more valuable than brute strength.
#FIGHTBOSS 🙏 Efficiency buys me time, time buys me safety! That should be the TM 😊 Great stuff Sifu.
Awesome tactics and information thank you !
I like your approach very much. I think you are right: concepts like this are very important no matter which martial art you practice.
What you say reminds me something one great teacher used to say to us: do the technique you HAVE not the technique you WANT
Thanks Nick and Dr. Philips for the demonstration. Engaging content. My thinking about self defense has taken a big turn!
Great information, very similar in concept to Tony Blauers “Closest Weapon Closest Target”.
Does your buddy ever get chance to throw some punches ? Lol...
He's always on the short end..!!! Lol..
That's his job. But next time. I'll let him hit me at least once. 😉
@@fightscience hahaha...love your channel...thx
lmao
Short end
Great lesson, eloquently explained. Very clear and practical. Ty
These are the best videos! Thanks for the info mate!
Thank you for watching my friend.
Strike from where the weapon is... A way to bring the "hands - strikes", "foot - kicks", and frankly "knife - cut" together.
Very nice.
gotta give it up to his team
For being supportive and willing to be on for demonstration. It’s quite hard work
Thank you - a great concept of economy of motion and strategic positioning/body mechanics.- efficiency.
Very good, very sensible information and great explanation and illustration. Thank u
Hope you come back to the States near Pa again!! Love training with you brutha!!
Doctor Mark, great period of Instruction, I enjoy and practice your techniques. Very efficient and effective techniques. I Salute you, Sir!
Thank you Sir. Much appreciated. 🙏

Completely agree. You do need short distance power. Perhaps I should do a follow up video to stress the point. Thanks for watching.

This may be your most important video. I had my 12 year old daughter watch it and learn. Thank you!
Thanks for all you do from Georgia USA

Nice. Thanks for adding.
Fight SCIENCE Bruce Lee said it. You’re welcome. Thank you for your great channel.

Elbows combined with Hammer fists work well together. They can be destructive while providing an element of cover (head protection).
Amazing combinations I love Wing Chun.

Phillip.
You should change the resistance setting to 20%
Keeping it simple is the way to attack👌 noticed your sparring partner looks leaner well done💪. Absolutely enjoyed your content 👍👍
That's a core item of Jeet June Do, and Wing Chun if I am not mistaken.

That's how ya elbow, sometimes I get the fog of war and forget my Sifu taught me to elbow there fist hehe
Awesomeness as always. Keep up the amazing work London Wing Chun.
awesome
Good vid as always. Breakfast and Fight Science...
Maybe one day we'll see the video where Nick finallt gets Mark? 😂😂
Is there much power in those strikes?... although it does make a lot sense what you say.. shouldn’t we try and end the fight as quickly as possible? Hard to throw powerful punches without the shoulders and hips involved...
You still use the hips to generate power. You just don't pull your hands back or load up your punches.
Does your chi sau practice enhance your non telegraphing of strikes?
Yes it does as you primarily have to hit without pulling your hand back or loading up.
Another excellent video
Damn Nick be taking a beat down 😎👍
Some very good points. However the victim had no training.

Has worked very well for me in the past !
Hello FightScience, always loved your work, do you have any suitable videos on surviving a mass riot/ violent protestor attacks? Thank you
The only disadvantage is won't your punches have less power as they are travelling less distance?
What do you think about capoeira for self defense?
Great vid.
Hi Dr MP, I'm way off the topic here, but who provides the subtitles for your videos if I may ask..? Is it a global UA-cam thing or is it private? There's some very weird words coming on display... 🤔 Kindest regards Thinus

Really good video 👍👌
You very realistic, thanks
I like how the instructor sounds exactly like Robin Leech.
"FIGHT-STYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS!"
Good video , one of your best I think !
Thank you very much.
Nearest available weapon to closest available target.
Good helpful video!
Excellent!!!!
Thank you, I have been trying to tell people this for years but they often are too "hung up" on style and "proper technique". Do whatever it takes to survive. There is an old saying attributed to Okinawan karate - "often the best karate is the ugliest karate".
Completely agree with you on all accounts. Especially your reference to Karate. Thank you for adding. 🙏
once again this makes perfect sense, is practical, real and, if practiced, deadly. every time i ck out this site i either review something that is helpful or new and eye-opening.
What is lacking is the emotional content ie the fear and aggressive factor.
Always awesome stuff.
This is how you win a street fight... Throw the first punch. Period.
2:52 "I love you, man! 😅
#Fightboss great tips !!! ✌✌✌
Thank you bother
Moor video ✊👍👍👍👍👍
in the words of active self protection,
time buys you options!

On the inside that's great, but if you are on the outside what do you expect to do?
I didn’t know raphael Varane had a soft spot for Martial arts...🤔
😂
Reminds me of the Keysi Fighting Method.
I haven't fought since 77 78, hope I can remember this
Here we go again!!
Got a question how do you deal with this situation
3 months ago person living in my block was playing music way too loud 24 hours 3 nights in a row,
On the second day asked him to turn the music down he threaten me with a hockey stick
4 days later he tried to kill my neighbour by smashing his head wide open
Then about 2 weeks later he threatened me on the bus and and by the shops where I live
3 months on he still living in the block the police haven't taken any action yet and the council won't move him
Again he has threatening me but now he's also threatening my other female neighbours
Can't live in my flat , on edge going to the shops , he know so many people around my area
So now frightened that other people might be involved
In the US a concealed carry firearm usually does the trick
This will save many lives! Thank you sifu
Blackshirt wipes his tears off
You should do a video with master wong.
I want Nick practice self defense lol
yes .... Buy Time.
i must send that 70 € over to London Wing Chun Academy.
on 1st week of march 2020.
I approve of your Wing Wing Chun I will let you live haha
Perfect. :)
So...3 piece and a soda à la Masvidal? Leon Edwards never saw it coming! Neither did Ben Askren, but he fed him the entire MGM Grand buffet instead!
I'm a very peaceful person yet no pushover in any sense of the word. Thank you as I'd simply want to minimize the damage one might wish upon me
There should be a clone of this guy all over the world
Lol you be messing him up. Appreciate you all.
