I’ve also seen where some people have replaced the fuel cap block off plate with the standpipe grommet, which appears to be perfectly sized. That would be much more secure than self tapping screws into roto-molded plastic.
That's awesome! Maybe we can now just have that fitting at the rear of the van and just add the tank when needed instead of trying to find a suitable spot for the tank on the Jayco Expanda
I bought set of these Same cheap assed disconnects from AMAZON: 100% JUNK. Spend the money, and acquire a set of 2 or 3 small hydraulic type disconnects(3 Male ends for the cans & 1 Female for the fuel line. I’m using 3 Diesel Jerry cans all equipped as such. Garanteed not to allow any air to get entrained in your fuel line while switching tanks. Works VERY well..!
Great video! Quick question: when you're using the quick disconnect each time you have to fill up and reconnect, does it get air pockets? If so, does your diesel heater interface throw an error?
1. Any link to the fuel line quick disconnect? What side does it have to be for the chinese diesel heater, will be buying the 5 KW version. 2. Any air bubbles foring in the line when reconnecting the line?
@@raczyk Hi mate, here's the link from my article: ebay.us/mh1yeF I'm not sure about side question? I've just popped it next to the tank No issues when reconnecting, the valve keeps the fuel in the majority of the line, there would be a little bit of air in the standpipe section but not much extra bubbles than the normal cavitation through the pulse dose pump
Hi there, Great lot of videos. I am about to install one of these heaters in our motorhome but I am fitting the tank with a "breather-non return valve" as used in motor cross bike tanks. They let air in but in the event of a fall don't let the fuel out. I believe this will be MUCH more convenient than having to go and open the lid each time you use the heater especially when the tank is outside or in a difficult to get to place. I will let anyone know how it all goes if you are interested. Graham R. South Australia
@@abigpeacheyadventure thanks for the update, no disrespect just seen some other people doing scary stuff. Do you have a link to that supplier? As well I assume it had a internal shut off
the heater your using this on, does it have a fuel pump? im looking to do something like this for my toyostove but it uses gravity so i think i would need the tank pickup at the bottom of the fuel can
I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my diesel heater. Do you have a link for the quick disconnect you installed or remember the size needed? Thanks!
Old post but a lot of the cased units have the tank on the top. The only thing on my mind is that it may self syphon if the pump fails and allows air into the system. I just keep the pump to heater hose as short as possible.
Have you had any luck with those plastic disconnects? I bought two sets and both plugged up on me within an hour use. Either plugged up or malfunctioned. Pulled the lines off both ends and cannot blow air through them when connected.
Older comment but yes you can, but if the seal fails it empties the contents into the vehicle. Using the standpipe is a better option if you can use one.
I’ve also seen where some people have replaced the fuel cap block off plate with the standpipe grommet, which appears to be perfectly sized. That would be much more secure than self tapping screws into roto-molded plastic.
Huge improvement to your fuel tank. I wish the disconnect had been available when I spent too much money for my marine fuel tank.
Excellent video! I love your thoughtful methodical approach and explanations!

It is a good plan to purchase 2 so you have a back up, the first unit stopped working for me and I had to switch out for the second one.
Ty for your video. I liked the quick connect pieces, no mess. :)
Shame I can only find it in Australia?!?

Hi mate, a small air pocket on the tank-side... not enough to impact things
Great idea! Thanks for the video!
Good video, how does that tank vent, or do you just loosen the cap to prevent vacuum when drawing diesel?
Yep, I just loosen the lid slightly when in use
Is there a vent? Thx!
This was helpful 😉👍
Can you install two qiuck disconnects in the same fuel line run? Want one at the fuel tank and the second at the self containing chinese heater.
Great video👍🇬🇧

Love this! You've not had any issues with air in the system every time you disconnect to refuel. Do you have to reprime?
Hey mate, no, luckily it has valves in it to keep the fuel in the lines
Where is your breather? Or to you just crack the lid when you use the heater?
Yep, just crack the lid during use (it’s got the second breather cap on the other side)

Does the pump pull the diesel through the line, I thought it was gravity fed, I'm just on with this at the moment.
It pulls it through with the dose-meter pump
