Oh my gosh you just saved my life. I love Okra, and just started my garden. Wanted to keep that amazing fresh taste anytime of the year without having to buy store bought lol. Thank you for being amazing and sharing your tip. Big hugs from Texas.
Hi, Great video! I"m growing okra for the first time and this answered all my questions and more. Thanks for the vacuum sealing tips ! No more guessing!! Happy Gardening!
I have tried something new: after cleaning okra. cut to size, laying okra out on lg baking sheet( not crowded), stick in freezer & kinda flash freeze, then bag. i use vacuum seal also. This new for me, but this okra is mostly for future Gumbo.
Wow I found another Okra lover...I love love love love love okra the same, Slime and all...I wld pick okra over any steaks....Thank u so much I needed this info...So very very helpful..Ur kitchen is gorgeous.....🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
I am not a fan of Okra, but my Husband and Son Loves it. A friend gave me a plant that is finally producing Okra, probably too late to get many since it’s already getting cold here in Ohio but she also gave me a lot to freeze. Thank God I found your channel, they can have Okra all winter. Thank You
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I was wondering if I could freeze my okra and now I know! I’m still picking my okra and will give this a try! Appreciate it!
We have a garden and every year due to the weather we have to replant our okras. My husband and I love okra, but our children do not. Last year we planted over 15 okra seeds and we harvested hundreds of okra and presented them to our neighbors, family and friends and still had plenty left to preserve for ourselves. I've been preserving them very similar to how you do it. Thank you for the additional tips I learned through watching your video.
Thank you 🙏 for helping me figure out how to prep my okra and vacuum seal it. My sealer took its maiden voyage tonight. 🚢 This was straightforward and easy to follow. Subscribed.
Great video. I do like you do but after letting it drain I slice it then bread it in cornmeal/flour mixture then lay it on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet in a single layer and put in the freezer for a few hours. Then I put it in freezer bags and freeze it. This way I can just take out what I need (I'm the only one that eats okra) and fry me up a batch. No thawing needed.
I certainly wouldn't be annoyed if someone call me addicted to okra. 🤣 I want to grow more okra next season (I'm in central FL so okra planting season starts early) and have been trying to figure a way to preserve it without pickling or canning. I figured freezing it the way you've shown would be the way to go, so I'm really happy I found your channel today. Thank you so much for sharing, though I'm going to have trouble waiting for months for the okra to be ready to harvest. 🙃
Thank you, I really enjoyed your video. I also tried them whole and cut up. I can’t wait to cook them., I am going this week to get me a good pack and seal machine.
Hi from Trinidad 🇹🇹 I love your accent!! 👍we call it ochro here, just a slight difference and yes I freeze mine it taste great! but I never tried vacuum sealing it will have to get me wanna dose!!😆
Robert Hicks welcome!! I add a little oil to skillet and put my okra and stir fry it in the oil... I add salt & pepper to taste and I love it!! Thank you so much for watching!!
Hi 👋 I am so happy 😀 that you share your your Video right now I have some Ochro and not sure 🤔 how to freeze it that you share yoursThank you very much I am surely going to try it God Bless
Thank you. I just started blanching my okra as well, but I did not put it on ice and let it drain. I'm doing it that way from now on. I also bought a vacuum sealer from walmart and the air sealer doesn't work that well, but I am gonna try the tip about the paper towel. Thank you again. I enjoyed your video very much. I love okra too.
I will gladly do a video on how to fry okra, but it will be a little while. Since Hurricane Laura hit we are not sure how long our power will be out... thank you so much for subscribing! We really do appreciate it....
What about if I don't have ice to use for cooling the okra after putting in boiling water what should I do how can I prepare okra to put in the freezer
Without the ice to cool the okra it will continue to cook… some people just wash it and then either cut up the okra or freeze it whole… Without blanching the okra it seems to take on a freezer taste….
So can you still bread it and fry it also after doing this? maybe i need to plant more plants next year but i have like 9 plants atm and they never seem to produce enough at once that i can make a meal out of for the three of us... so i was thinking i could freeze them and then when i have enough for a meal then fry them...
Space rows 3-feet apart; sow seeds 1-inch deep and 4- to 6-inches apart within the row. When seedlings are several inches tall, thin the row so the remaining plants are spaced 1.5- to 2-feet apart.
Yes… the ice water stops the cooking process… it preserves the color, texture and taste . The okra will taste fresh from the garden after being frozen… thanks for watching
Thanks. I did not know what is this blanching of OKRA. So With this Blanching , OKRA is made to stay like fresh Okra for a longer period of time. Thank you for this video.
Thanks for the step by step. Just what I was looking for. I saw a few other videos on the subject but yours answered by questions about leaving the tips being on or off before blanching. I'll check back later once I've done my batch.

Living Miracle Homestead I never bread my okra.. I will eat breaded okra when we eat out but I always fry mine plain....

Excellent way of freezing okra. south african Indians call it Bhindi pronounced BINDI . BTW NICE PJs 😉
I could eat fried okra every day!
love okra too! we call them ladyfingers tho :D
does it work if i slice them before blanching?
No, they have to be blanched before slicing....
Good video. Please give us your gumbo recipe.
The weather is starting to cool in Louisiana and I’ll share my gumbo recipe...
That is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Have to give that a try. I need to get that sealing machine..
Hi
Can we freeze it without slicing ?
Yes you can , but make sure you blanch it and it will be fresh when you cook it!!! 🤗 God Bless
Who does the closed captioning for your videos?
No one...
Thanks.Learning...😂
Can you still batter and fry it when it is thawed?
Yes
What about if I don't have ice to use for cooling the okra after putting in boiling water what should I do how can I prepare okra to put in the freezer
Without the ice to cool the okra it will continue to cook… some people just wash it and then either cut up the okra or freeze it whole… Without blanching the okra it seems to take on a freezer taste….
Check out our homestead! Take a tour and feed the animals with us!!
ua-cam.com/video/o723SMo7MR8/v-deo.html
Can you freeze it whole and cut it up after you thaw it?
It would be hard to cut up.. I always let mine drain after blanching then I cut it up…
So can you still bread it and fry it also after doing this? maybe i need to plant more plants next year but i have like 9 plants atm and they never seem to produce enough at once that i can make a meal out of for the three of us... so i was thinking i could freeze them and then when i have enough for a meal then fry them...
Yes
Should I put it on the fridge or the freezer. I don't get it clear .thanks
Inspire me with Maram you blanch it then vacuum seal and put in freezer .. not sure what you’re not understanding...
@@ReapWhatYouSeauxLeJeune ok thanks in the freezer
Will this be easy to bread later for frying?
Yes
How do you plant your okra
Space rows 3-feet apart; sow seeds 1-inch deep and 4- to 6-inches apart within the row. When seedlings are several inches tall, thin the row so the remaining plants are spaced 1.5- to 2-feet apart.
yes i need help lol
so how exactly do you fry your okra up?
I add a little oil in a pan and sauté it until it’s tender.. We love the slim so that’s why I cook it like that…
@@ReapWhatYouSeauxLeJeune thank you so much, learned so much glad you did this!
You’re welcome….
Dang them some BIG okra. I throw all mine to the chickens when they get that size. I figured they wasn’t good for eating
You can test cut the big ones if it’s hard then feed it to the chickens, and if the knife slices like butter enjoy 😉
Bake in oven dry out okra take the slime out it Best make gumbos,or soups with slime from okar
I love the slime 🤗
Aren’t these a little big and going to be tough?
No… you can test them by cutting them…
@@ReapWhatYouSeauxLeJeune I’ve been throwing away all that are bigger than my fingers
Just slice it with a knife then you can tell if it’s soft enough..
Okra is put into boiling water--- 3 minutes. Then OKRA is put into bowl of ice_water.! That is called Blanching! ??
Yes… the ice water stops the cooking process… it preserves the color, texture and taste . The okra will taste fresh from the garden after being frozen… thanks for watching
Thanks. I did not know what is this blanching of OKRA. So With this Blanching , OKRA is made to stay like fresh Okra for a longer period of time. Thank you for this video.
