The Tokyo part is all over the place. The population of 37 mil is for the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan area which covers 13,500 sq km which isn’t all shown on the map. It’s a bit confusing at first because administratively Tokyo Metropolis (2,194 sq km/pop 13 mil) is treated as prefecture with a governor and subdivided into about 50 wards, cities, and towns with mayors. But at the same time, Tokyo is the capital city of Japan. The core of Tokyo Metropolis is the eastern part consisting of the 23 wards which have almost 10 million people total and are treated as individual cities. That’s the part most people think of as Tokyo. Should have kept it consistent using either the city proper or it’s entire metro area.
As small as Vatican City is, they still have a railway! The railway opened in 1934 and is only 300 meters (980 ft) long, making it the world's shortest national railway. It has access to Italy's network via a viaduct to San Pietro station which has been guaranteed since the Lateran Treaty was signed. Since 2015, the public can take a train from the Vatican to Castel Gandolfo (home of a palace that's the papal summer residence) every Saturday morning during the Summer (but was briefly paused during the pandemic).
I think by area and also population, if you count the whole metro area, the pearl river delta, encompassing Guangzhou, HK, Shenzen and some others, is the largest in the world, with 55k km2 and over 86 million people living there.
Interesting that they put Boston together with Providence, they are very much separate cities - different states in fact - but technically could be grouped together as one large metro area.
also it looked like they counted Jersey in with Philadelphia... definitely not even close. i have family in philly and i think they might be offended haha
Here in Brazil, there is a city called "Altamira" in the state of "Pará" with 160.000 square km, it's bigger than netherlands, belgium and switzerland together, but there's a few people living there
It's interesting to see cities by their land area as supposed to their population. The largest American city by land area is Sitka, Alaska on Baranof Island with a total land area of 12,471 square kilometres (around the same size as Northern Ireland). Most of the land is covered in mountains and the part where people actually live is more like a town than a city, but someone decided "hey, this small town and these mountains? Yeah, it's a city now". It's even crazier in China, Jiuquan is a "prefecture-level" city, and even though the urban area is quite small by Chinese standards, the whole area is larger than Greece. It just shows you how arbitrary city boundaries are.
1:49 Woah, that's a big city! A million km² is a big jump from 890 km² though, don't understand the choice by Metaball Studio, but I can't wait to see the other ⅘ of the video with even bigger cities than that

Jack: Is that it? That's them all, that's them all The NY Tri-State, coming into view and not mentioned by Jack: 👁👄👁 The reason many US places are at the top is because the creator counted the whole metropolitan area rather than just the city, or they combined cities (like Dallas-Fort Worth or Boston-Providence). That's why the NY Tri-State is number one, because it's more than just NYC. If we count just the city and not a whole urban area like Tokyo-Yokohama, the world's largest city by area is Chongqing in China at 82,403 squared km (the size of Austria). In the top ten of cities by area, all except Khartoum (ranked third) are in China.
The map and population shown in the video are of Greater Jakarta. Jakarta, together with four other surrounding cities, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, known as Jabodetabek. Also the map is upside down, as in the north part of Jakarta is on the bottom.

The original area of Tokyo is 2,194 km². Isn't it Kanto, not Tokyo, in this video? I'm not good at English, so I'm really sorry if that was clearly stated. (Of course, this sentence is mostly a translation lol)
That video is a bit strange. Once it got to America it started measuring cities by their metropolitan areas (including Atlanta, which was not indicated), not their areas within city limits. NYC's area is actually 780 sq. kilometers, not 12,000, and Chicago's is 607, not 7,000. Boston is 80 kilometers from Providence yet they are included together here because the entire area is considered to be one "consolidated statistical area". The actual largest city in the U.S. by area is Jacksonville, Florida, at ~2,400 sq. kilometers, and that's because it was consolidated with its entire county in 1968.
Seoul and Incheon are not one city. Seoul : 605.2km^2 and 9,418,885 people If you want to combine cities, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon into one administrative district, it is called the "metropolitan area" in Korea.
Seoul is always tied up with Gyeonggi-do and Incheon. Many cities, including the Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan area and Shanghai and Beijing, add up the metropolitan area together.

Good Job Jack. Japan Is A City! You Passed The Test!
This is not Tokyo. This includes Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures, and the area known as the 23 Wards of Tokyo is much smaller.
1:54 1000000 km?????
01:13 my family is from here and the way he says Addis Ababa gets me every time 😂
The original area of Tokyo is 2,194 km². Isn't it Kanto, not Tokyo, in this video? I'm not good at English, so I'm really sorry if that was clearly stated. (Of course, this sentence is mostly a translation lol)

WAIT, did he say that the largest CITY is JAPAN
No, is new york
Lisbon is almost 1000000 km
Good job jack

I think the largest city in the world...
Was the friends we made along the way
Seoul and Incheon are not one city.
Seoul : 605.2km^2 and 9,418,885 people
If you want to combine cities, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon into one administrative district, it is called the "metropolitan area" in Korea.
Yeah he should have used the metropolitan area word instead of cities, as everywhere its called
Seoul is always tied up with Gyeonggi-do and Incheon. Many cities, including the Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan area and Shanghai and Beijing, add up the metropolitan area together.
@@georgiopasca2720 He's using the metropolitan areas, just not calling them that.
