    In this video, you will learn how to set up the FFT math function in the Siglent SDS1104x-e oscilloscope. FFT is the Fast Fourier transform in the digital domain.
    FFT function is a very useful feature that helps you to debug the signals. For example to analyze the harmonics or signal noises. To examine how pure is a sinewave signal (of an inverter) or how good is an amplifier, in terms of the THD.

    For some reason the peak detect and table function (for FFT) is only available on the 4-channel versions, not on the 2 -channel. If FFT is very important, go for the 4-channel version.

      Are you sure? I don't have the two channels one to verify, please upgrade the firmware to the latest and check again

      @@MyVanitar Yes I am sure. I have both scopes in my lab (1202X-E and 1104X-E). It seems that the 4 channel versions are more often updated with new firmware than the 2 channel versions.

      There are a lot of cool features. have you used XY Mode? You can build a octopus circuit (search online for a schematic) and hook up to your scope in XY mode to give you a Curve Tracer. Anyways, yeah, the FFT Math function in this model is very cool indeed. The FFT function is this scope beats a lot of brands and other models of Siglent as well... I want this scope...

    How useful is the FFT on this model with signals of much lower frequencies between 10-1000 Hz?

      it does the job, I can detect the 50Hz hum noise, however, you can go for the X Plus series also, I will make another video for 2000X Plus soon

    I don't get why your measurment for 2Vpp = 1Vp = 0.707Vrms = 707mVrms of a sine wave at 1MHz shows only 8,86dbm (dbmV rms) where it should have been around 57dbm (dbmV rms) since 707mV is 57db higher than 1mV.

    Great but you skipped a bunch of the critical FFT setup, Like how to setup vertical scale, ref level, units and ext load. Please keep in mind someone of us are complete newbies. Which is why results will vary unless you cover every single step. Again thanks for the effort.

      You are right, however, I realized preparing a correct view is the first step because if a novice user first plays with scales and other knobs, he might not get the spikes. many users think FFT is very complex or just for some specific purposes and don't even use such a cool feature

    A square wave contains the fundamental + the ODD order harmonics. So what are all those EVEN order blips doing there? It would have been nice to see that signal on a REAL spectrum analyzer, for comparison. Is it the FFT that's at fault, or are those harmonics really in the signal? It also would have been nice to see a time-domain display of that square wave, to see if it looks a little "screwy." A REAL spectrum analyzer shows the REAL Fourier series. I'm not sure I trust the FFT, especially since computer SOFTWARE is used to produce it! ::) (from an old, "Luddite" engineer).

      I liked your attention to detail, the possible reasons are: the amplitudes of those spikes are low, and this is an 8-bit oscilloscope (look at the table). Wires (from the signal generator to the oscilloscope) also introduce some inductance and I can also see those inductance spikes on the sharp edges of the square wave Signal in the normal time domain. furthermore, the sampling rate of the function generator also matters. if you have previously worked with an Analogue spectrum analyzer, those look less noisy, but anyway as a result, FFT does the job, but yes, you have to purchase its dedicated tool (spectrum) to target the application with no question :-)
