    This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. I restore tube radios and other vintage gear on my channel, and often need to do bode plots, which are a chore without this built-in function. I have that exact scope and was considering getting the “matching” generator, so you’ve made my decision easier. Thanks once again. Best regards from Madeira.

    What a nice bit of Kit. Thanks for the demonstration. Looking forward to future lessons on this channel.

    This was a really good demonstration. I'm getting a siglent sds110x- e for christmas and Bode plotting is one of the features i'm excited about having available. That, and learning more about serial decoding. that will help my position in the day job! Thank you for this.

    The USB connection is one of the most important information.

    Officially, the 4-channel X-E series scopes communicates with the SDG10xxX-series AWGs for bode plotting. However, I've found that my SDS1104X-E also can control the "older" SDG1010 AWG for bode plotting. So if somebody has an older Siglent AWG (not the X-series), this AWG can probably still be used with the 4-channel X-E scopes. I don't think this is documented by Siglent.

    thank you for this, will definitely look at doing some rc circuit analysis with this feature on my sds1104x

    Also works with the built in AWG if I remember correctly. If you have a siglent scope that has one.

    Do you know if the scope 'auto ranges' during the measurements? In your example you need about 50dB of dynamic range, but I can imagine if you are doing a larger sweep you might need more than that. Of course a scope can handle it by switching the internal amplifiers/attenuators, but if it doesn't you are limited by the scope noise floor (which should be about 60dB I think in 10 bit mode). If the feature is limited to the scope noise floor (i.e. it doesnt do any switching) that would be quite a shame.

    I tried this a different way. I used a 10 X probe on channel 1 across the resistor, capacitor combination and a 10X probe on channel 2 across the output capacitor. Setting DUT input on channel 1 and the DUT output on channel 2 gives me the same Bode plot as connecting AWG channel 1 to scope channel 1 and DUT output to channel 2. Difference is that I do not have to worry about matching the cable's 50 ohm impedance into the scope and do not have to synchronize channel 1 and channel 2 of the function generator as only one channel is being used.

    It is as well possible to set up the SDS1104X-E to control a SDG2042X through the LAN instead of the USB

    Are there any limitations on the frequency? If I remember correct from the Eevblog's video, the Keysight oscilloscope's bode plot function does not have too many data points in the lower end of the frequency range. I'm looking for a scope that could be used to represent bode plots at audio frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. No need for one continous plot for the whole range of course, but measuring the level and phase on lower frequencies would be very useful for me.

      I think limitations of frequency are imposed by the WFG.
      As for not enough points in the lower frequencies, at 4:55 you see it is set to a linear sweep, if you set this to logarithmic scale it should have more points in the lower frequency range and 'speed up' as you go along.

    Hi Bill, great video. I've just received my SDS1104x-E and sdg810 (which only has one output but should work with a splitter I hope!) Do I only need the 50 ohm tfeed through if I'm using coax (which i would assume would be mainly for rf and high frequencies)? I'm working mainly in the audio range. Thanks.

      50ohm termination on coax, yes, but probably not essential for audio frequency work, purists will of course consider me a heretic!

    I have the 2ch version which does not have bode plotting, now I can plot freq response by doing a sweep on the FFT, but any ideas how I could obtain phase?

    How do you achieve the SDS1104X-E superposed screen video grab capture effect (at 4:18)?

      Hi, I used the web page server facility on the scope, and grabbed the output on my computer.

    Hi,
    I have the same instrument SDS 1104X-E and I cannot fix the phase scale, even when AUTO button is not pressed, the vertical scale always wants to adjust automatically himself when the measure starts.
    The reason is the one that measuring the bode plot of a power supply and the phase wants to reach lower than -180° the measure continue from +180° (like as a phase rotation) so what I would like to do is to fix the vertical scale of phase to have a range of -360° to +360° that it is possible to do on the Display menu of phase but do not reamain when the measure starts, as I said before neither when the button Auto is unpressed.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks a lor
    Roberto

    Good that it uses ch1 for reference, would it not be better to use an adapter to split the function generator channel into 2 to get the same reference point, eliminating any variance between channels. Also, the function gen made for this is also 1 channel, so idk how it manages accuracy with that...

    • @KeiJazz
      @KeiJazz Рік тому

      The phase between channels 1 and 2 of these generators is tightly locked, so it will not be an issue. Tying two loads (scope + dut) to the same signal generator output can result in unwanted reflections that disturb the measurements, so in that case it would be worse than using two generator outputs.

    What's that adaptor on ch1 input on osciloscope please ?

    Can´t you just use any signal generator and sweep the frequency accross your siglent ?

    • @isoslow
      @isoslow 2 місяці тому

      You can't, you need precise synchronization to track the phase.
