    Do you educate schools? I wish we had someone like you when I was at school. Children can't always rely on parents/guardians educating them. There has to be a better program of educating children on oral care. Thank you for all the advice I have been putting it into practice for the past few weeks and I really hope it will help my teeth going forward.

    I am prone to gum disease and cavities. There is something about my bacterial flora in saliva that does that. But even for me, introducing electric toothbrush, adding interdental brush and water flossing, as well as the tongue scraper to my daily routine, worked magic. I used to floss once per day, and I've been cleaning my teeth twice/day. But I still had recurring gum disease. After the deep cleaning that I had a year ago, I added things recommended by my dentist (interdental brushes, electric toothbrush and better toothpaste), as well as stuff I've found on my own (water flosser and tongue scraper). Since then, I have perfectly healthy gums and I don't have issues with cavities. I know a year is not long, but for me - it is. Sure, it takes extra time, but since my oral health does not affect me anymore, that's very little price to pay

    I recently found out that I have periodontal disease and had to have two teeth extracted. In an effort to not lose anymore teeth and prevent cavities, my dental care routine is extensive. I brush for two minutes when I wake up and clean my tongue. I use a water flosser after every meal and use a mouth wash with xylitol and fluoride after each water flossing. In the evening I brush again, clean my tongue, use interdental brushes (i have a retainer on the back of the four upper front teeth) and finally I floss with string or picks. I also gently massage my gums several times per day, whenever I remember, either with fingers or with one of those silicone interdental brushes to massage in between teeth. I don’t rinse my mouth after brushing and I use a toothpaste with both xylitol and fluoride. I use a soft bristled toothbrush and everything is done fairly gently 🦷 I know it sounds intense, but I was really traumatised by all that dental work that needed to be done all of a sudden, so I’ll do anything and everything to not have to go through that again! I found Dr. Andrew Huberman’s video on oral health really educational. It helps to understand how tooth decay works and how it affects our entire body! take good care of your teeth at home, people. not doing so may prove to be expensive, stressful and painful

      I have the same problem and have developed a very similar routine! I do believe us with a metal retainer behind our teeth are much much more prone to develop periodontal disease. No one told me what the risks were when I had it placed. Was it the same for you?

    To anyone in a rush
    1. Electric toothbrush (x2)
    2. Floss - never skip a night
    3. Tongue scraper (x1/x2)- will let you experience acc fresh breath
    Extra things she mentioned - avoid natural toothpaste, use anti cavity toothpaste.
    For those cavity prone - anti cavity mouthwash
    For gum disease prone - use another method to clean in between teeth like water flosser

    I had a check up yesterday. They said I take EXCELLENT care of my teeth. I use interdental brushes, I brush twice a day (before breakfast and before bed, sometimes mid day) and I floss twice a day. I also do tongue scraping AND chew 2 grams of xylitol 5 times a day. That being said, they said I take EXCELLENT care of my teeth, yet I still have a giant cavity in a wisdom tooth, so it needs to be pulled, as well as TONNES of cavities that need to filled. Like SO MANY FILLINGS . How come my Dentist and Dental Hygienest are telling me I take EXCELLENT care of my teeth and gums, yet I still have so many cavities and fillings? :( I spend probably an hour maintaining my teeth in total everyday, so it's very disheartening not only to work so hard on my teeth, but also the amount of money I spend on all of these maintenance things, just to still spend more than my monthly income on dental work several times a year .

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  5 місяців тому +5

      I'm so sorry to hear that! some people are more prone to cavities than others! and I always say to my patients "if you didn't care for your teeth as well as you do, then there might be even more dental problems" which is so unfortunate but in the long run it really is worth it to continue giving all you got with the daily home care.
      My best advice is to ask your dental providers at next appointment -- exactly this comment here. since they know your mouth best, they will be able to let you know if there's anything else you can do or do differently at home. wishing you continued dental health.

    i brush with an electric toothbrush 3-4 times a day. floss at least once a day. and it takes 5-10 minutes each time. but i get plaque that builds up so quickly in the minutes after i eat. and turns to tartar within an hour or 2. my brother is older, brushes once a day, never uses floss, and hasn’t ever had a single cleaning or filling.

      for sensitivity, make sure to massage your gums. It increases circulation to the gums and helps immensely. Sensitivity isn't all about enamel (although that can certainly contribute). Massage at least 2 minutes with coconut oil.
