Just discovered you, happy accident is what I call it when I am super thrilled to find someone on this platform that I didn't know I needed in my life. Love your authenticity and how loving you are will your fur babies.

I am hoping to learn the shearing trade, only spent one day shadowing a pro (so far) on a couple small jobs, but he let me get some hands on experience with a few of the wethers and one thing I picked up (and it translates well across to shearing angoras as well) is to pull back on the skin where you have already sheared so it smooths out the wrinkles in the skin. try to get as long passes as possible, the fewer strokes you take, the fewer second cuts. You can always clean up strokes after the fleece is taken away. I do find it interesting that shearers are so careful to make the coat look super even, but most rabbit shearers are like "it's ok if its bumpy, it all grows back and you can't tell" lol Maybe just because rabbits are in some ways more difficult to shear since they are smaller, with very thin skin with lots of folds. Sheep and goats (and bigger) can be hard since they can be rather heavy, and when they kick, it hurts more, but they are generally done much faster and cleaner than rabbits.

Thanks for all the information. I know I will get better by doing it. I do think the size of the animal makes a big difference. I went to help a friend shear her sheep many years ago because I wanted to learn. They are BIG animals and I thought I could never do that.
