Angora Rabbits Spinning Yarn I first started on my yarn spinning journey 18 years ago. The internet was in its early stages and UA-cam was nonexistent (at least to my knowledge). In researching a small acreage fiber animal, Angora rabbits were the animal that came up repeatedly in articles and blogs. My “farm” knowledge at that time was riding on the back of my grandpa’s tractor and chickens. All these years later I have my own little “flock” of beautiful Angoras, and numerous spinning wheels that I can use to teach others what I wanted to learn so many years ago. We live on a 5-acre farm with chickens, Angora rabbits of all kinds, and recently added 2 Angora goats to the mix. I am also a spinning wheel dealer for Spinolution Spinning Wheels. Join me in this beautiful fiber filled life on the farm!

Fiber Friday~What is a Production Wheel
I had no idea that’s how yarn was made, I could totally see myself doing just this for an hour.
Beautiful! I just found your channel looking for info on angora bunnies. Angora is my favorite fiber and I’m looking to add a couple to my farm. Love your channel
Have you ever used an angora blend yarn to make socks?
He is exalted!!!!!
Renee that pink is stunning! Well done (and glad you're feeling better!)
Beautiful pink 😊
So beautiful!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your mother in law. January 2025 marks 8 years since I lost my mother overseas, and I understand well the feeling of having a hole in your heart and confusion in your brain. Welcome back to the channel. I think resuming normal activities will help you to heal. I have a technical issue that I would like to raise as you get back into the swing of things. The sound quality of your videos varies quite a lot--mostly I find it very difficult to hear what you are saying. Can you raise the volume or place the microphone closer to your mouth so that I can avoid constantly adjusting on my end. Yours is the only one of my many subscriptions for which I have to make these adjustments, and before someone tells me to go and get my hearing checked, let me say that I did very recently, and my hearing is normal. I have French angoras and I also live in MI so I was thrilled last year to discover a fellow fiber enthusiast to follow.
Thank you for your kind words. Thank you for the feedback. Keep in mind in the last month I have had to get a new software editing program, have been trying different settings on my camera, and I was also quite sick for 3 weeks so my voice was definitely not always cooperating. I did up the volume even more on my recent video. I hope this helps.
I have been putting off grooming here because of the cold. It's warm in the house but I have to put them outside after brrrr
I understand! We finally got a break in the weather today, it's 20 degrees out:))
How do you manage the static when grooming? I have two English angora bunnies (almost 4 months old). Do you ever use a blower on your bunnies?
I don't use a blower. I usually end up covered no matter what, but I do think it is worse in the winter. Usually when I comb, everything sticks together and doesn't get away from me too much.
What gorgeous bunnies. Our satin angoras get mats so easily. Do you find some mat easier than others?
Thank you! Oh most definitely! I've talked about that in quite a few videos. Some rabbits are worse than others, and some that should be matted aren't. I think genetics plays a role a bit. How you groom and when also comes into play. I have 4 French does out in a colony full time. I would think they would be a mess, but they are some of my most beautiful rabbits.
How often do you groom them like this and get so much off of them?
How can I contact you directly to purchase some of your best wool producing rabbits?
You can always email me. All my information for contacting is in the description box. I don't have any available at this time. Thank you!
I think shearing also promotes shedding and that's what gives angora fiber a bad reputation. Besides, combing and plucking is a very therapeutic exercise for both rabbit and groomer.
Yes, there is a whole discussion there! On of the books I have talks about the "science" behind combing vs. shearing.
Such a beautiful hue
Thank you!
Yep cold and windy here in Montana
I bet you're even colder than us!
Why not use a pump for the water rather than gravity to feed the hoses?
I'll have to look that up, I've never seen a pump system. Thank you!
Thanks 🙏🏻. Lots of snow here in Owen Sound. Living near the Great Lakes always lake squalls. But I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else ❤
You're welcome! Agreed!
Awesome, thank you
You're welcome!
When I read Rip I think always at Rest In Peace...
LOL It's actually supposed to be Ripp, spell check helped me along:) He is the rabbits who got his ear ripped pretty good last summer. One of the friends of the channel suggested that name and it stuck!
This makes me sad I lost my 1 red i had on Thanksgiving day
Awe, I'm so sorry. Losing them is so hard.
Do I understand correctly that you got all this fiber just from grooming them? You didn't shear any of them? Im just surprised because English angoras don't shed their coat, right? They all look pretty by the way :)
Yes, this was all combed. English actually do shed (also French) it's the German and Giant that typically need to be sheared. Thank you!
@@TailSpinFarm ohh, I didn't realize that. Thanks!
I wish our satin angoras would sit still while grooming. We had to get the vet to shave out their mats this week. I've ordered a few more grooming tools plus a shaver to help us out. Our female, red, did ok. Our male, silver, not so good. His undercoat is really thick especially on his hind end. Any tips? Manythanks.
Not all of mine do this great, but the more you handle them the better. Also, when I do have a squirrely one, sitting them on my lap to groom seems to help. They can't go very far when I hold them.
So good to see you back!! Hope your life is filled with blessings and love following your loss! I’m sending continued thoughts and prayers! I enjoyed getting to watch your new video, especially as it coincided with my English angoras grooming! It was like a little catch-up visit with a friend! Thank you for the work and effort you put into your videos! Inspirational and encouraging as always, and I hope that energy is returned to you multiplied❤❤❤
Thank you for the kind words!
What’s the cage like machine thingy? I’m sorry if that’s a weird question
I believe it is something that wines your skins into a ball that is easier to work from. Hope this helps
It's a yarn swift! Great tool to have if you turn skeins into balls.
sending condolences to you and your family.
Thank you!
My condolences on your loss, I loss my mom over 8 years ago and it sometimes feels like it was just yesterday. 😢. I'm so glad you are all feeling better. I hope the good Lord will watch over you all and bless you. In Jesus's name love and prays.
Thank you! Losing parents is always hard.
What type of sheep is that?
They aren't sheep, they are Angora goats!
@@TailSpinFarm Sounds good! They are very unique in their look!
What gorgeous sheep!
They are actually Angora goats! :)
@ Thanks for the correction! It’s always good to learn something! Your Angora goats are absolutely adorable!
Happy new year 🎉
Happy New Year! Here's to 2025!
Condolences to you and your family . Wishing you a happy new year. 😊 🌹
Thank you! Same to you!!
Thank you
You're welcome!
My satin free roams my whole house and he is amazingly litterbox trained. He’s so good that he picks up any stray poops that fall outside the litterbox and puts them back in the box himself!
That's awesome!
what is that their eating, I just adopted a 2 year old EA and never had one before had a mini rex first
Just their pellets.
She is gorgeous! I have a satin chocolate buck and he is the best pet that I’ve ever owned. When I first got him he was about 4 pounds, and is now just over 12 pounds! Huge for a satin.
Thank you! Wow! That's huge!
Do you have a video where you compare all angora rabbit breeds? I wish a playlist of all angora rabbit breeds
I do have a few videos like that. Check the Angora Rabbits playlist. Thanks!
Lovely
Thank you!
Hi 👋 from UK would love to know where your V shaped holding pen is from 😮
The hay manger? I got that from Amazon.
It’s so hard to get out of the helper word habit.. uh… you know? I’m crazy for wool now. My ideal goal Is to be able to make a heavy anorak from the fiber. What is their lifespan? The ones that die of old age would make great pelts too!
Thanks for watching! Yes it is! Anywhere between 4-7 years on average.
I love doing puzzles too 😊
I've finished 2 and have 2 more to go!
