I've been using Lattices for a few days now and one application that I've found that it's good for is adding cushions to, say, a chair. You could make it conform to the shape of a chair's frame, and it looks really good too!
Thanks a lot! I was trying to drape an old, tattered tapestry (plane) over a crossbeam, and was trying to use the simple deform modifier to bend and ripple it, and get it to hang crookedly, etc., but the lattice worked to get the effect I wanted, thanks to your tutorial. To get the ripples, I used a few more "loop cuts" in the lattice (7 in each direction), with 30 loop cuts in the tapestry). Then it was a matter of repeatedly tweaking the position, rotation and scaling of the lattice vertices until it looked right.
Coming back to Blender from using Maya for quite a while and can't find the answer to one thing you showed us in the first minutes of the video. How did you make this boolean cut? :) Thank you!
Thanks! Question: what view mode are you using to get the white highlight on the corner of the default cube. I see this style a lot in hard surface tuts. Thanks.
I noticed that the bottom of the mesh still gets affected by the lattice. Is it possible to exclude the very bottom the mesh so it doesn't get affected by the lattice when using the hardop lattice modifier?
Hello Josh, I was wondering, would it be possible to have a "non permanent" high geometry model to use with the Lattice ? Or how would you retopology the model once you are done with the lattice and the shape of the model/part ?
Handbrake is the best toole to downsize your videos. Always when watching 1080 it's pretty blurry on youtube. Have a look, this tool is free and for linux, win, mac

I know this video is old, but I'm pretty sure you could use "proportional editing" to influence more than one lattice.
For people trying to follow along, you'll need Boxcutter and hardOps add-ons for those parts in the beginning
hehe, thanks for pointing that out, I was literally like "HOLD on what the heck did he just do there?!" :D
I just flipped out
Dammit! Every damn time!
He makes a video and doesn't explain the tools his using. Not very intuitive!
this guys has the worst tutorials on youtube
This technique is pretty good for making shoes.
I can in fact confirm that this is true
or seats for vehicles

Yeah they’re great for the more curvy, difficult stuff!
I like this kind of short videos, easy to follow, very precisely
I love your voice and the way that you teach! KEEP IT UP!!!!

Thanks to Blender Bros, about to go next level. Planning on taking some of your paid tutorials.
Nice vid dude, very helpful and to the point!
Very cool! Im enjoying the attention to the subd workflow, this and Ryuu's recent video drop will work a treat for upcoming projects :)
Thanks. I will give the lattice a try. I keep forgetting that tool exists. Been having trouble working on a starship and this should help.
Now I finally know how to approach making a G98 "Langes Visier" rear sight!
thanks, I keep forgetting that lattices are a thing.
Same, but how can I? They are so useful
this is a cool show case but could you please list the addons your using? I don't think I can really use alot of what your showing here without them
Lattice is entirely vanilla and his only addon is hardops which only makes it a little faster.
Nice! I've never heard of this technique but I like it!
You can turn on proportional editing whilst manipulating dense lattices to retain more organic flow.
Got to try this. Curve and deform isnt cutting it.
can someone explain how he’s doing the boolean cut at 0:48
He's using Hard Ops, Selecting the N-gon tool, drawing the shape he wants, then click drags to pull the depth.
Excellent. Thank you
How did you make the cut with the red link at the begenning of the video?
Boxcutter!
thanks for your tutorials
this is awesome!
would it work to have more latice segments and use proportional editing to grab more of the latice at once? wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?
Yeah but proportional editing is not as precise, I’d avoid using both unless you have a good reason
@@JoshGambrell this seems like just a superior proportional editing

Boxcutter addon!
Hello from Norway 🇳🇴... Can you tell us how did you get that Cut tool? Is it a free addons?
Thanks so much!!!
Can you then use Boolean operations, or do you need to "bake" the lattice changes into the geometry first? Thanks!
Good and informative :)
Excellent, as usual... Two questions Which is this pie menu addon he uses? And how can i achieve this gigantic circle vertice when he edits the mesh?

You can edit vertex size in Blender preferences.
@@JoshGambrell THANKS
box cutter should become a standard within blender
Thanks! Question: what view mode are you using to get the white highlight on the corner of the default cube. I see this style a lot in hard surface tuts. Thanks.
It’s under the viewport display dropdown menu “cavity”
Thank you!!
Is there anyway to make the boolean operation without boxcutter? I don't have a budget for that atm

Awesome
Will this be good to make archery bow? Had difficult time keeping even topology.
What add-on (labled HOps 09.87.8 ) was used to subdivibe the mesh?
Can't we use proportional editing with this addon to extend our control?
Hello Josh, I was wondering, would it be possible to have a "non permanent" high geometry model to use with the Lattice ? Or how would you retopology the model once you are done with the lattice and the shape of the model/part ?
super!
Thank you :-)
You bet
how this boolean cut feature works without boolean modifier in Blender 2.93.1???
Am I wrong to assume you could use proportional editing with a higher lattice resolution to achieve a larger influence?
If you want, if it works for you then go for it.
Why would you do this instead of proportional editing?

I handbrake almost every vid. Quality looks fine on my end.
Looks just fine for me. UA-cam compression is unavoidable.
can i use this workflow for modeling a car?
how you made the first boolean cut?
Very good stuff. How do you get that sort of lighter look on the edges of the model?
Cavity setting, viewport dropdown in the top right (near render orbs)
nice!
Out of curiosity could you use lattice to shrink wrap the object onto a curved surface?
Shrink wrapping the lattice? That sounds like an interesting study, give it a go!
For me the dice just become planes cutting through the mesh
how works the lattice modifier? it doesnt works to me :s
hello, please where I find ngon ?
0:42 is that an add-on to cut n-gon? what's that?
Boxcutter addon
@@JoshGambrell Is that menu accesible for every version of Boxcutter? And how?
These always look like motorcycle seats to me.
Sub D surface mod without the sub D?
Somewhat, they both have their uses
noice
if we live in a perfect world, I dont need to model and just sculpt everything, sadly, this is not a perfect world
a pain in the a$$......
this guy is just flexing lmao
not a tutorial
