      Basic training is challenging but you'll get through it. Adapt as needed, be flexible, don't take it personal and you'll get through with your flight as a team, not individuals. Remember everyone in the military had to go through it. You'll be fine.

      I like the advice. "Do not take it personal." Brother they say better late than never.
      I still have your email, I emailed you while I was still a second student in uni, this was 2015.
      I keep reading the email to get courage.
      I still have the passion of wanting to serve and I feel I am almost there.
      At the moment I am working with USCIS to get my papers done.
      Btw are you able to know, the working hours of structural maintenance job?
      What would be your advice for a uni graduate, should he or she join as an enlisted personel or officer?

    Hi it's been a while since I've watched your videos. Never realized you were in the reserves. I thought I was out of my research phase but it's back on again. I was initially aiming for active but the recruiter around my way turned me off from that. So I contacted the Air National Guard. I sort of flaked on them but I'm still free to set up an appointment. I've been talking to a few people and now I have my sights on the Reserves. There's only 2 things that I'm torn about with the AFReserve. I live in NYC, the air force reserve base is in Niagara Falls. If I go with the ANG, their base is much much closer, which is Stewart ANG Base in Newburgh.
    The second thing is I like the idea of responding to natural disasters or local conflicts, nationally or locally. The Reservists don't do that or aren't legally allowed to, from my understanding, is that correct?
    Basically the Air Force Reserve was never in my sights but now it is due to the possibility of it being easier to go active as opposed to going from guard to active. Sorry for the long post. I'm a bit indecisive. What sets the RESERVE aside from the guard? Better benefits? Would I be stationed closer to home such as the ANG?

    • @yourmilitarymoney
      @yourmilitarymoney  7 років тому +1

      If you like responding to natural disasters or local conflicts, then the Guard may be a better option. Especially if it will be closer to you for your drill/duty. Reservists usually aren't called to respond like you said. You are correct. Reserve is Federal and and Guard is State. The benefits are pretty much the same. With the Air Force Reserve, you have better options of going outside the US. You would have to see which is the closest reserve unit to you.

    • @Leorgo
      @Leorgo 7 років тому

      YOUR Military Money thank you. Good to know about the traveling thing. I think that would be interesting. You're an officer, right? Would you say you're closer to enlisted airmen? I've seen a few people say that enlisted airmen are more comfortable or relaxed around their officer counterparts, compared to other branches. I think that was said about the air national Guard though.
      One last question.. Could I play both fields and just talk to a reserve recruiter and the ANG recruiter at the same time? I have a bunch of questions about the pros and cons of each. Mainly interested in the reserve because it seems like it would be easier to transition to active later on.

    • @yourmilitarymoney
      @yourmilitarymoney  7 років тому +1

      Yes I'm an officer and I do have a great relationship with the enlisted team I work with. We depend on each other. You can definitely speak with both the Reserve and Guard recruiters and let them know that you are exploring your options. However, going active duty later on may be difficult unless you go Active Guard Reserve (AGR) which is what I am. It's not very easy to go regular active duty from the Reserve/Guard side. It is easy to join the Guard/Reserve after leaving active duty.

    • @Leorgo
      @Leorgo 7 років тому

      YOUR Military Money ok AGR is new info to me. I'll look into that. Thanks again. I wish you were a recruiter in NYC. you're so cool. Lol. Have a great day. I know where to come if I have more complex questions.

    Hi, stumbled upon your videos a week ago! Very informative! Thank you!
    I'm planning on joining the Air Force! After 4 years you're put in inactive reserves or 2 years active reserves, I was thinking about being active reserves after my 4 year contract. How are the reserves paid? And can I still do a networking job?
    Thank you!!

    • @yourmilitarymoney
      @yourmilitarymoney  7 років тому

      After 4 years you can separate (and go into the inactive reserve) or you can go straight into the reserve and participate. Reserve pay is part-time since you only work part-time. It's good pay for a weekend's work. You'll also complete two weeks of annual duty. You can definitely network throughout your career. Thank you for watching.

    I’m about to earn my bachelors degree in Criminal Justice this May and am interested in during AF reserves as an officer. However I also want to work in the juvenile courts as a civilian job. What kind of jobs does the AF offer in Criminal Justice. Also I love about 45 minutes from base would I be able to stay on base for the weekend? Or have to drive back and forth each day(I’m assuming it depends on the base)

    Im interrested in the Air Force, but I'm terrified to be in battle, How do you get some of the jobs behind the scenes

    • @yourmilitarymoney
      @yourmilitarymoney  8 років тому +3

      +Cameron Torgeson First of all, the Air Force will train you well in your job and for deploying. Pick a job in the support field (personnel, services, communications, medical, etc.) Those career fields and many others are considered support and are usually kept on base as opposed to a job like security forces that often leave the base and participate in convoys outside the base. Remember that the Air Force can put you where they need you. Over time you'll see that the training provided will make you feel more comfortable with doing what the AF asks you to do. I've been in 19 years and unfortunately never deployed. I have volunteered a few times but it hasn't happened. Go to the AF website and see what jobs are out there and from there....pick jobs that might interest you and eliminate jobs that you wouldn't be interested in.

    I'm in college currently to become a civil engineer. I am thinking about becoming a CRO after college, but now that the Reserves have come to my attention I may join them instead. Do you have any pointers that might help me make a decision? I've still got 2 years left of college to decide. Also, is being in AFROTC in college a requirement?

    • @yourmilitarymoney
      @yourmilitarymoney  9 років тому +1

      John Hudson Both active duty and the reserves are great options. The Air Force can definitely use civil engineers. If you still have two years to go in college, definitely stop by the ROTC detachment and speak with them. Look to see if you can get a commission and they may also help with paying for some of your school. Active duty is great if you don't mind working for the AF everyday and if you don't mind moving. The reserves is more of a part time job with many options/opportunities as well. Again, it will depend on what you want to do. Review the Air Force's websites for both active duty and reserves. I hope this helped. Let me know if you have any further questions. AFROTC is not a requirement, it's something that people join when they meet the requirements and once complete, they are commissioned.

    • @johnhudson9047
      @johnhudson9047 9 років тому

      If i were to join the reserves, I would likely not do civil engineering. It probably sounds stupid since that is what my degree is in, but I would really like to either be a PJ or a CRO. That goes for whether I do active duty or reserves. I am worried though because training for those jobs takes 18-24 months.
      And the only reason I have stayed away from ROTC is because I have a full ride at college. I don't need the AF money for college. I figure not going to college on their dime gives me a little more freedom/negotiating ability/leverage if there is such a thing in military service.
      Does your advice change at all?

    • @yourmilitarymoney
      @yourmilitarymoney  9 років тому +1

      John Hudson If you want to be a PJ, then you'll go enlisted right? When I went through basic...they ask if anyone wanted to tryout for PJ. What is CRO??? My question to you is do you want to join enlisted or officer? It sounds like you're a shoe in for enlisted as long as you pass the physical. In order to become an officer, you have to be selected for a commissioning source. If you do not do ROTC, then OTS is your only choice. It will depend on what option you want, enlisted or officer. If officer is not an option, then enlisted will be your only option. I came in enlisted and it's a great option. Another question for you is do you want active or reserves? What part of the length worries you? If you don't complete PJ or CRO, are you find with doing something else? I think the AF is a great team with so many opportunities overall.

    • @johnhudson9047
      @johnhudson9047 9 років тому

      a CRO is a Combat Rescue Officer. They are the NCO counterparts of a PJ.
      The main problem I have with the training length is that it will make finding a civilian job harder. If i go through the training (be it PJ or CRO) after college graduation, then I won't be able to look for a civilian job for 1.5 - 2 years after graduation.
      Granted, I am interning with the US Army Corps of Engineers and I believe i will probably work for them after graduation, but the training time is something i have to take into consideration.
      I'm thinking that if I go reserves, then I wouldn't mind being enlisted and training for PJ. If i went active duty, then I'd like to be an officer and be a CRO instead.
      I am just thinking that having gone through all that training and missing that time to search for a civilian job, an argument can be made for just making a career out of the military at that point.
      Since i am not in ROTC, I am doing my absolute best to keep my GPA as high as possible so i can be competitive for OTS.

      It definitely is a possibility. You'll need to have a solid commissioning package which will include letters of recommendation, a solid grade point average, good AFOQT scores and do well during your enlistment time. Look for opportunities to lead and include that in your application. Your base education center will assist you with the application process.

      +Liz Mercado I know it happens but from what I've seen it's more difficult to go that way. It's easier to go from active duty to reserves or guard.

      +YOUR Military Money What makes it difficult?!? They do not want you after you served in the reserve?

      +bigzachful The military as a whole has been experiencing financial and personnel cuts especially with Active Duty in the last couple years. However, that might change in the next couple years due to the amount of change that already occurs in the military and how our next president will support it.

    I just joined the air force reserve , I'm going to bmt in march. my job in there is services. will this be my final job or when I get to boot camp there's a chance they will change it?

    • @yourmilitarymoney
      @yourmilitarymoney  9 років тому

      +carl fleurant Most likely you'll keep the job that was assigned to you. In a few years most likely you'll be able to retrain into another job if you want to.

      Would I have to take the asvab again to retrain? And do people in services get deployed or get to do TDY?

    • @yourmilitarymoney
      @yourmilitarymoney  9 років тому

      +carl fleurant It depends if you want to improve your scores and what career field you may want to get into. Services to deploy and get to go TDY. I went to England last year for our annual tour and Georgia this year for training.

      Were you in England for a long time? How long deployment usually is? Was it hard for you to go to school while in the army? Did you have to take all your classes online? Sorry I'm asking so many questions.

      @yourmilitarymoney  9 років тому

      +carl fleurant I was in England for 2 weeks as it wasn't a deployment. Deployments vary in length depending on location. Could be 30 days but most are for about 4-6 months. I preferred to attend classes and no it wasn't difficult. Now you can also do online classes if needed. I'm in the Air Force, not the Army. Ask away with questions as I like to help.

    I just think it's funny how a president with a DUI on his record (GEORGE W BUSH) run the United States and how the military would a serve a guy with a DUI but a 23 year old like me, a young man who only got 1 DUI and only blew a 0.89 I only missed it by .9 can't even join the Air Force reserve. I think it's unfair and sad. I really want to join but all these reviews on google are scaring me to even talk to a recruiter. If anyone can shed light on this please help me out. I have a friend who's in the AF reserves and she asked the recruiter and he said he got people in with DUIs before. But I'm scared to confront the man. Can someone please help me. I live in Hawaii. I'm young I'm fit I come from a military family and I'm ready to commit and show everyone I'm not a criminal I'm not a bad person I want to get better in life and I want to progress but how can I do that if people are going to judge me off my past. How can I get by in life? I really want to join the Air Force reserves. I'm not asking for much just a chance.

      Contact the recruiter and see what happens. Time is passing you by and you need to get a solid answer even if it may be the answer you may not want to hear. Begin there and see what happens.
