Thumbs up for getting the job done in the cold with the pink gloves!
@@davidiverson hahaha use what you got
Thank you for posting a video on this, I couldn't find any for the rear axle bearings👍
Before u did this did it have a vibration at like 50+ on and off?
Thanks for this! My rear driver wheel just started grinding and getting wobbly and noticed it while towing my boat
great video. Garage wants over $1000 bucks. Thanks to you I'm gonna do it myself 😁
That’s why I do this… I work at a garage and see people paying way too much all the time good luck you got this
Good information. Thanks for showing this. I have to do this job on my 1998 dodge van which is similar procedure wise. Your video is very helpful.
How did you turn the differential wheel for better access to the pin? I have rear wheels lifted, diff. Cover open, but turning the rear wheel is not turning the differential. Thanks.
turn using the drive shaft. im sorry this took to long, I hope you got it figured out
Thanks for the help pretty easy just did mine last night
Glad I can help!
What did it cost including the rental tools?
I can’t remember honestly. Ball park about $200 but you get like 75% back when you return the tools. The bearing and seal came out to like $40
You don't have to pack the bearing with grease?
@@cstepanuk1014 I’m not sure if I said that or not in the video, but I’m aware you don’t have to pack them. I’ll have to rewatch my video to see what you’re talking about
good job I have same happen in my truck. But I try to fix it.
You can do it! Just take your time
Was the noise you used to diagnose the bearings growling that seemed to wind up and down with wheel rotation as your speed increased and decreased ?
Yes it was a growing life coming from the rear end. I actually jacked up the rear and put it on jack stands put the truck in drive with traction control off and was able to hear which bearing it wae
Did you have alot of vibration from the rear end? And hear any popping from the rear when taking off? Im sure that this is next for me along with tie rod ends.
No just a roar/humming noise. It’s a very easy process you got this
@@GottisGarage ya I've fixed almost everything on our rides, done front hubs but never rear bearings. Ima buy the tools from harbor freight since we own multiple dodges
Thank you sir much appreciated for the video
Glad I could help!
Is the "that's not bueno" for me. Great video bud
Appreciate it! 🙌
Nice job!
Thank you!
When ur truck slow down like coming to a stop could u hear a wine noise
not that i can remember, try changing your diff fluid and see what it looks like
You don’t need to grease the bearing’s?
No it uses the diff fluid for that, but definitely put some grease on the seals to prevent them from tearing. I had to replace the seals a couple months after I did this. After lubing up the seals no issues
Great video
Do you have to take out both sides? Or can you just do the one side?
If you only have to replace a whee bearing or seal on one side you can do that.
why did you not pack the bearing?
Because those are lubricated using the differential fluid. That’s why when a seal goes bad the axle leaks. You don’t pack those.
What gear oil did you use?
75-90 I’m pretty sure I can’t remember. I used what Chrysler recommended
Was it hard putting the axle back into the diff
Not at all. Very easy!
was this truck making a whining noise ?
Yeah it was. I ended up jacking up the rear end, using my harness to shut everything off and putting it into drive and shifting the gears up to get speed. The. Crawled under the truck to pin point where the noise was coming from. Turned out to be the rear axle bearings
Telling us the cost of rental tools and overall cost compared to getting it done in a shop would have been a nice touch.
Yeah I can see that as being helpful lol so this is what I have
My Shop is 3.2 hours of R&R = $480+ parts +60-70% up charge= approximately $135
Cost for yourself doing it $100 tool rental which you get back after returning them
$6 per axle seal $60 for the bearings so $72
I didn’t count diff fluid or the rtv of course
Uhh, they refund you on rental tolls anyways, it coat me about 160 to rent and I'm doing the repair today. Return within 48hrs to get tool refund
Just wondering what gear ratio do you have?
Honestly I’m not sure off the top of my head
Where will it say 9.25 or 10.5? I called dealer with VIN but I’d still rather see it myself ha
Why not show getting the spider gears back in and explaining to people not to be turning your axles with all that opened up in there. Just asking for those gears to fall out.
guess i could have done that. not difficult to get back in if they do though.
thanks get info
I’m glad I could help!
Forgot to put gear oil on the bearing
The bearing gets lubricated from the diff. I guess for peace of mind sure but I never lube it while installing them and had one fail
God bless you had the two gears fall out as well
its it 4x4
Yes
