I am not sure what HP or other companies like them do with parts that have been replaced. I would suspect that they would try to repair it in-house and then if successful, keep it as a reserve for when a similar computer gets sent in for repair and needs a motherboard replacement. On the other hand, if they are unable to repair the replaced motherboard, I would suspect that they would send it to an ewaste facility that would destroy these said items. But, once again, I cannot speak to there process because I am completely unaware and my guess is as good as yours as to what happens.
