A posh hotel is about to close its doors forever. When a paroled convict returns to the hotel to recover stolen loot he hid there years earlier, he saves a woman from suicide, unaware that she has been hired by crooks to spirit the loot away from him!
Grand Hotel without the big stars & budget. This is a tighter story. Cabanne is great at mixing humour into the story. Thanks was most enjoyable!
In case you blinked and missed it, at 3:52 the "working girl" applying lipstick and replying to her friend "Your telling me?", was none other than a very young ( and blonde) Lucille Ball. She did about a dozen or so of these uncredited "walk on" parts in the beginning of her career and it's always fun to spot her in one.
"Well I was born the year this building was completed". "I thought it was 60 yrs old". LMAO
This deserves to be restored! ~ possibly colorized ~ I bet this hotel is beautiful in all its splendor!

No color! One of the reason these movies are so good because they are black and white!

One of the best, Pizza! I really love the 1930's films noir.
Mary Carlisle, born in Feb. of 1912 or 1914 (depending on the source) is still alive at the age of 103 or 105 as of this date (1/6/2018).
Carlisle died on August 1, 2018, at a retirement community for actors in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. She was believed to be 104, but never personally confirmed her age or birth date during her life. No cause of death was reported. Her burial is at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.

Dying in 'Woodland Hills' (in the LA area) suggests that she was at the Hospital & Retirement Home for retired and infirm actors and actresses.

Prohibition was such an amazing success as we see here.
For those who defied it, yes. As for it being a government act, it was a total failure. People drank more booze back then than they do now, and much of it wasn't all that safe to drink.
And remember that Americans put down more booze back then than we do today, and with a population only 1/3 of what it is now. The whole country must have been 'legally drunk' in those days.
Sweet, I enjoyed that.
ha-ha .... I wanted to do a dislike for the way of playing .... but who cares? The actors don't live anymore and for the 1932 level we should appreciate we still have these movies ... we get an idea about those times :-)

It is sad that the picture is hazy. Conteurs blur. I could not watch it, though I wanted it. Is there a better quality copy available? I love pre-code films.

+Wayne Mierzwa these are oft preservation movies, the horrible ones are far worse, this is definitely viewable, on A B C D F SCALE, this is a C visually and B audio. I 11-1 LIKES DISLIKES indicates i am right.
