Out of all the Music Man series... I really think that the Albert Lee sig is the most attractive imo.. the pick guard up against that sky blue body is the bobbins...!

Is there a low energy video contest happening on UA-cam? Winner!

Just traded in some gear I wasn't using at Guitar Center and I tried a number of new guitars as a replacement and came home with the AL40. It's just an amazing value. The pups are sweet and it plays itself practically.

I got mine around Christmas and it had a few issues out of the box: The neck shifted from side to side because the screws are a bit small, so I replaced the screws with thicker #8 stainless steel screws and that fixed it right up, nice and tight! The frets definitely needed to be polished for a smoother feel, otherwise string bending and vibrato felt rough. Also note that the holes for the bridge post bushings are drilled through and are visible from the trem spring cavity- this seems to be a common issue on these guitars if you look at some online reviews and could possibly be a weak spot down the road... Cosmetically, the chrome on the neck pickup cover has a deep scratch on it and the tortoiseshell pickguard had some damage. I have to admit I got a *really great discount* when I ordered it and a free hardshell case, so I wasn't too upset, you know? Issues aside, it's a great sounding and playing instrument with some tweaking and a competent setup!

jetglo330 I agree, I bought the same guitar recently and made a review also. To me it sounds really great and I love it. It has some construction flaws though, fretwork and small details. The pick up selector in mine is a fucking joke and needs to be replaced. After a few months playing it I think that despite the flaws it still plays and feels great somehow.

I've always wanted an Albert Lee guitar and now I can actually get one that I can afford!

It seemed that you bypassed the 4th and 2nd pickup selector positions each time you played. Would have loved to hear those too..

The Sterling people have been doing such a brilliant job : the AL-40 is so ideally balanced (body and pick ups), beautifully designed (the best futuristic shape I've seen so far) and so affordable. And on those pickups in particular it has to be said that depending on the settings they deliver a wide range of twangy spanky sounds, that can transform into totally different harmonic enriched sustain powerfull humbucking tones (especially on that bridge pickup). But I think the icing on the cake is the neck pickup : I wonder if such clean neat definite and warm colours can be found elsewhere on other guitars brands... I'm wondering if this AL-40 is not going to be my go-to guitar, even before the 3 Reverends queening in the room (Airsonic RA, Warhawk-RT and Buckshot)...

Nice playing. I'm getting a used on this Tuesday. Concerned if I need to replace the bridge pickup.

So torn between getting this incredible sounding guitar (btw the playing is just 🔥) or the Sterling Axis which has a different sound but still classic and sounds amazing when played clean…ugh!

@@jerrywinder7052 Really? I've never seen a Sterling version, and they don't show one on their site. I know they've been doing the megabucks version for a couple of decades.

I wish people that review guitars would point out examples of what style of music this guitar is most suited for ?

I owe a Warhawk, fantastic sound, exceptional electronics and splendid instrument (and unique Revtronics pickups), and a Sterling (black) AL-40 as well, which for me is THE most beautifully designed guitar on this Earth, futuristic and heaven inspired body shape : I never get bored of looking at her : when I don't play her, she queens in front of my bed in my room on her standing rack - ... but the Reverend guitars sound best by far (and have more sound versatility than the Sterling) - both are remarkable instruments ! But watch out for the up and coming St-Vincent which is another masterpiece of design... and another Sterling guit.
