- This weeks True Crime video we visit the graves and hear about the murders of 5-year-old Brenda Goddard, 9-year-old Cicely Batstone and 5-year-old Linda Bowyer
John Thomas Straffen (27 February 1930 - 19 November 2007) was a British serial killer who was the longest-serving prisoner in British history. After killing two young girls in the summer of 1951, he was found unfit to plead at trial and committed to Broadmoor Hospital. During a brief escape in 1952, he killed again. This time, Straffen was convicted of murder and sentenced to death.

I had never heard of this case before , thank you for this Paul . I hope the staff at Broadmoor, who allowed this monster to escape and kill again were punished. May little Brenda , Cicely and Linda Rest in Peace.

This is so heartbreaking to hear this. I have never heard of this case. He is mentally impaired as his skills for thought and recognisation were depleted by a brain injury which could have been caused at birth or some other means. Thank you so much for this case.

Paul. Oh dear where do I start. Hadn’t heard of this case before. Your compassion excelled itself tonight! SOB was too kind. Sentence was too lenient. Flowers were such a lovely touch. Couldn’t help wondering why one grave seemed ‘Cleaner’ than the other. Thanks yet again. Bob
How was the sentence too lenient? He was mentally retarded and got a life sentence, he died in prison.

John Straffen was certainly a twisted tortured sadistic individual, the awful things that must of filled his head permanently which none of us watching could ever comprehend, or make sense of, utterly despicable. Those poor little girls what they went through doesn't bare thinking about, the parents loss of a child, awful, can't imagine. The cemetery looks quite old and pretty unkempt in places ,probably because of the older graves.

Straffen at his first trial was found guilty and sentenced to an institution,Broadmoor ,then he escaped and murdered another child ,this time he was sentenced to death but this was commuted to life for in prison.

He was violent from a young age killing animals. With that killer streak in him and he didn't know right from wrong apparently, was there no lunatic asylums back then? The Cannock Chase murders were the murders of three girls aged between 5 and 7 in Staffordshire, England, between 1965 and 1967. The bodies of all three children were discovered on Cannock Chase; a vast area of countryside in the county of Staffordshire

(She was only young herself when the murders happened) the girls have never been forgotten by those who remember the case 🙏🏻🕊
