This is definitely my favourite so far. Louis makes a surprisingly funny interviewee, but you can see he's really in his element getting Richard to open up. I would love to see that documentary. Thanks for putting this up! : D
Louis is such an interesting talker, he always comes at things from his own little point of view without ever really going full throttle. It's like watching a boxer fighting whilst pulling his punches and it just makes for fascinating conversation.
weird week'friends': Louis Theroux reprises his role as the zany journalist sniffing out some of the weird and wacky lifestyles of the US, UK, and Europe. Louis is joined by a special guest each week and the guest gets to decide where they go and what they do. Like travel man but with people instead of places.
“I’m gonna blame you.” 😂 That is, without doubt the best line in all of the Rhlstp-Rhlstp! Fair play to Louis, that could’ve been a BeeGees moment. Pure class😂
You're definitely not the only one. It made for great viewing, and it seems that when he's off the job, Louis Theroux is great fun. Another point in his favour!
I love that point in any interview with louis where the interviewer realises that the tables have turned. I'm not sure whether he even knows he is doing it.
Wow. Some really interesting insights into both your professions, as well as the fascinating dynamic between two interviewers. I hope he does end up making a documentary about stand-ups because he'd be good at it. (And you'd be a good contributor, Richard, despite your protests to the contrary.)
+EASYTIGER10 He is a pretty special person. I just watched his new alcohol doc on iPlayer. As someone who has had alcohol problems, I found it brilliant. It could of been so different in different hands. He has a talent of getting the best out of situations without being unfair or anyway negative.
Louis has a great sense of humour! At times when I watch his documentaries when he comes across as seemingly naive and innocent, I can never quite tell if the seemingly genius comedy timing is intentional and the naivety is an act or if it's genuine. Duh. He obviously really knew what he was doing.
I think, like he said, he just naturally doesn't like being too confrontational, and he works around that by being as non-threatening as possible to get his subjects to open up and reveal things about themselves. If people feel they're under attack they might close themselves off and get defensive. I think once he gains a certain amount of trust he is more comfortable asking serious questions. I agree he has a great sense of humor, though :)
Louis originally wanted to be a comedy writer before he went into journalism instead. And in the early days there was definitely a lot of (intentional) humour in his shows. He seems to have largely moved away from that tone now, but he's still a funny guy.
Less than 300k views and only 1.7k likes?! This is not only the most fascinating RHLSTP I've seen so far, it's the best interview with Louis Theroux ever. Captivating stuff, and I never realized that he had such a wonderful sense of humour. I'll be recommending this video to everyone I know. Cheers, Richard!
I could watch and listen to Louis hour after hour. He is so clever but very self deprecating too. He works so hard and asks all the questions that we would want to ask for ourselves. You get the feeling that he cares about his subjects and always gets involved in their lives.
I would love that documentary about stand ups to happen, Richard has given a first person view of his life in great detail so it would be interesting to see that from an out side perspective.
I love these shows, and after watching a few dozen of them, I've finally caved in and decided to contribute on Go Faster Stripe. I'm fine for badges though, thanks...
I feel there's a world of difference between "Childish" and "Child-Like" (which I always felt was Lois' style when he was doing the "Weird Weekends" show : A kind of wide-eyed curious innocence in the face of the people he interviewed various horrific / ridiculous perversities)
I don't know how the format usually goes, but in the beginning, it's amusing to see Richard being interviewed instead of the other way round, perhaps it's the Theroux effect?
Fun interview, would have liked to hear more about his time with Adam and Joe, had heard about that before, makes more sense after hearing how funny he is when he's not interviewing others.
Louis has been thinking about doing a doc on stand up comedians (Creating, refining and performing new bits) for a while. He spoke to Joe Rogan about it and Rogan shut him down saying that no comedian would agree to be filmed dying on their arse with unfinished material or giving away punchlines for a documentary. Hopefully _something_ gets made.
Stew was somewhat sad that the BBC wouldn't let him shoot bits of Comedy Vehicle with him in venues where he would fail so he would definitely be up for it.
How the fucking hell has Richard Herring ONLY Got 16,000 subscribers????? Hes a fucking legend!!! Are you peons not familiar with PROGRESSIVE CONTEMPORARY COMEDY OF THE 90's??? Well, it was contemporary back then.. FIST OF FUN?? Ring any bells??? GET THIS MAN SOME MORE VIEWERS!!!!
It would be good to see Herring interview Lawrence Fox or David Icke - particularly as I think we’ve all friends who don’t publicly align with their views but kind of entertain them. Jerry Sadowitz too.
My T-shirt and Hermione handprint arrived on the same day Louis Theroux episode sponsored by FailBetter games turned up. Happy days. *Drinks his weak lemon drink*
definitely my favourite so far, Jon ronson would be great to chat with also, he's kind of like Louis' shorter and less well known brother, but he is very interesting too.
+Alkapow Portstar He has interviewed Jon but it might be a while before he uploads it free on youtube. You can download the audio version here. www.comedy.co.uk/podcasts/richard_herring_lst_podcast/episode_44_jon_ronson/
If Richard does the documentary he's got to talk about the famous Heckler incident that was infamous. Richard really made the guy look like a twat it was hilarious.
Yeah, not funny at all. At the beginning of that segment, Louis visibly shows discomfort at his Richard's play on his series title but carries on. I mean Louis has spent time with the victims of these predators and probably doesn't feel comfortable making light of any of it. Then Louis says he feels responsible in some way. He then opens up quite deeply about how he's been grappling with not being able to detect the predatory behaviour in Savile and help the survivors of the abuse. Richard's response to all of that is to make a flippant "joke" blaming Louis. Richard showed himself to be a tactless interviewer who lacking empathy.
Regarding the 'Paco' thing at the beginning. I used to hang out in a bar with a Spanish barmaid (the bar, not me.) And in conversation she did mention that the Spanish nickname/shortform whatever for Frank, was 'Paco.'
I think the live audience setting is what is dictating the feeling we are picking up on. I guess it puts the onus on them both to entertain, rather than just have a high-quality conversation. But that's ok. If all podcasts were just two people yapping in to great big mics in a broom-closet things would be pretty dull.
I love the way Louis started interviewing him lol.....Louis is great
Its just how Louis is he can't help ut and I love it
Became LTLSTP (LTLSTP!) for a good while there. 😅
This is definitely my favourite so far. Louis makes a surprisingly funny interviewee, but you can see he's really in his element getting Richard to open up. I would love to see that documentary. Thanks for putting this up! : D
Tina Zhang Louie's always good for this. Really like his work.
@@mrnull9026 so is Louis
you totally got louis therouxed
Louis is such an interesting talker, he always comes at things from his own little point of view without ever really going full throttle. It's like watching a boxer fighting whilst pulling his punches and it just makes for fascinating conversation.
I could definitely watch a version of The Trip with Richard and Louis they have an amazing rhythm together.
weird week'friends': Louis Theroux reprises his role as the zany journalist sniffing out some of the weird and wacky lifestyles of the US, UK, and Europe. Louis is joined by a special guest each week and the guest gets to decide where they go and what they do. Like travel man but with people instead of places.

Fair play to Louis, that could’ve been a BeeGees moment.

Am i the only one who could've watched another couple of hours of that? The strange chemistry between Richard and Louis alone was a buzz to watch.
You're definitely not the only one. It made for great viewing, and it seems that when he's off the job, Louis Theroux is great fun. Another point in his favour!
+sugelanren I agree. They seem to complement each other well. Richard seemed able to get Louis to open up, and Louis reined Richard in when necessary!
+sugelanren I agree, I think the Greg Davies interview is Richard Herring's favourite one, but for my money this is his best podcast.
You sound like such a nice, balanced person.
@Saul Lincoln creepy
Louis Theroux interviews Richard herring :) So much fun.
He makes Herring so uncomfortable and defensive!
"I am going to blame you" ...... pure comedy gold
50:05 can watch and watch that moment and the audience reaction. Beautiful!
I wish Louis did a Parkinson type chat show. He'd be amazing.
I have a feeling a lot of guests would walk off.
Louis has also done a great, interesting podcast interview with Joe Rogan, you can see it on UA-cam
pitch it
@@MontyCantsin5 nobody would dare go on it.
@@lukef3559: You may well be right!
I love that point in any interview with louis where the interviewer realises that the tables have turned. I'm not sure whether he even knows he is doing it.
I find that Louis has no guile. He's not sneaky and underhanded about anything.
I could listen to Louis talk for hours.
This and the Bob Mortimer one have been some of the best RHLSTP's ever!
Watching Louis repeatedly wrest control of the interview is a thing of beauty.
Louis Theroux could have been a stand-up comedian, the man makes me laugh out loud.
I wish this had gone on longer... I would love to see himdoing a "When Louis met Boris Johnson...."Would make interesting viewing!!
Wow. Some really interesting insights into both your professions, as well as the fascinating dynamic between two interviewers.
I hope he does end up making a documentary about stand-ups because he'd be good at it. (And you'd be a good contributor, Richard, despite your protests to the contrary.)
What is it about Louis Theroux? I just find it fascinating listening to him.
+EASYTIGER10 it's because he's fascinated about things
+EASYTIGER10 Totally agree... he also has zero pretentiousness about him.
+EASYTIGER10 He is a pretty special person. I just watched his new alcohol doc on iPlayer. As someone who has had alcohol problems, I found it brilliant. It could of been so different in different hands. He has a talent of getting the best out of situations without being unfair or anyway negative.

John AlcocK Thanks

This one´s my new favourite I think. Not as light hearted as the others but all the better and more revealing for it!

@bad1dobby Louis or Richard?
really a gem of an interview, well payed sir
Really enjoyed this. One of my favourites so far.

Thoroughly enjoyed this interview, love Theroux.
Yep could have watched this for another hour or two lol, you'll have to get him back on Rich in the future!
#463 is a general chat about Louis's shows and #835 is scientology specific.
Louis is a priceless treasure and must be protected at all cost🙏
"You did a series - When Louis Met Loads of Sex Offenders". Shit's getting tense.
"Some of them were proved innocent." 😆
the mention of simon cowell was interesting, considering the creepy pictures with him and jonathan king
And now straight to finding this clip of Louis dancing with Adam and Joe.
I love these shows, and after watching a few dozen of them, I've finally caved in and decided to contribute on Go Faster Stripe. I'm fine for badges though, thanks...
Weird. I just put this on to enjoy while playing Sunless Sea. Was not expecting the advert
BEST one of Richard's podcasts I've seen. Louis Theroux is INCREDIBLE!!! xx SF
Been looking forward to this one for so long! Thanks Rich
Loved this interview!

I think he may have mean to say that
Louis Theroux the thinking man's Karl Pilkington
Not really.
RighteousBrother I do apologise I shall remove this right away! Haha
From now on I'm going to begin all my conversations with "Ready?"
Louis is like the new David Frost he sort of turns the tables here on the always hilarious Richard.
Louis is the funniest guest he's had on, and he's one of the few guests who isn't a comedian..
Richard was most definitely outclassed by Mr Theroux. By far and away!
I think Theroux going on this podcast was a pre-text to 'Theroux', Herring....and it was great!
Louis is a bit like Columbo: he appears quite disarming, but he's just too intelligent.
Wasn't expecting Fallen London here of all places
Can we get louis back? It would ve amazing!
Great stuff Richard.....Great stuff.....

TheBunniMonster don't you reckon that Stewart lee would love to be filmed dying on stage?
+TheBunniMonster Rogan's great, but he oftens makes the mistake of assuming other people will be as assertive and confident as he is.
Stew was somewhat sad that the BBC wouldn't let him shoot bits of Comedy Vehicle with him in venues where he would fail so he would definitely be up for it.
The difference culturally between the UK and the US.
I have a new favourite episode! Amazing interview.
Thanks for another interesting conversation.
His book about public shaming is excellent (I am making a joke about him being a bit like Jon Ronson) thats the joke (that's the joke)
Fascinating, really excellent stuff.
Thank you!
hahaaaa but now I've watched on a bit further and Richard is too funny "I'm gonna blame you" haaa really am in stitches here.
Very surprised at how funny Louie after seeing a few of his more awkward docs
The best one yet

I reckon a lot of the new comedians were fans as kids. I totally agree he should be held in much higher regard.
... almost Merchants the podcast early on ... hehehe.
Louis's impersonations are hilarious.
"Go on, what's so pathetic about these shows I've made?"
I wanna see a podcast with these two like xfm where they just babble for hours, they are really fun to listen to just chit chatting :p
This was the best one, Louis is so interesting
Louis is spot on about the rural public school thing. I should know, I went to one.
YESSSSSSS Richard YEESSSSSS

I only came for Louis but surprisingly this presenter isn't bad which is a change
Richard is proper funny check out his old stuff and with Stewart Lee too
Louis is Therouxing him!

If Richard does the documentary he's got to talk about the famous Heckler incident that was infamous. Richard really made the guy look like a twat it was hilarious.
Ironic that Louis appears on episode 69
"I'm gonna blame you".....for Jimmy Saville.......Richard Herring at his best

it's very possible that i've seen louis theroux out and about but just thought, "oh, it's humphrey ker"
Ooooh. In the middle of Josh Widdecombe at the moment (not literally). Will watch this one next. Nice one Mr Herring.
Regarding the 'Paco' thing at the beginning. I used to hang out in a bar with a Spanish barmaid (the bar, not me.) And in conversation she did mention that the Spanish nickname/shortform whatever for Frank, was 'Paco.'
we love you Richard
That chair was way too small for Louis Theroux. He looked so uncomfortable!
Greg fit in it just fine. He's just a slightly awkward looking guy 🤣🤣
I'd love a Thom Yorke or Jonny Greenwood podcast. Apparently Greenwood likes the show.
When he called Louis pathetic 😂
It came across as pathetic and petty jealousy, I think.
Theroux's a very interesting fella.
Herring thinks every line has to be a joke which makes it difficult in an interview setting.
Louis is an interviewer, very serious and professional. Richard is a comedian, he tries to be funny to his audience, its his job.
I think the live audience setting is what is dictating the feeling we are picking up on. I guess it puts the onus on them both to entertain, rather than just have a high-quality conversation. But that's ok. If all podcasts were just two people yapping in to great big mics in a broom-closet things would be pretty dull.
You hit the nail right there: _"tries"_ (and fails)
@sugelanran, watch it again 4 years later. Still just as funny and great.
I “liked” it again.
Does that work on UA-cam?
Nobody knows.
