You may not read my comment about comedy being subjective. However, it is. I agree 100% that he was (is still) funny. The judges, host, and change of format ruined the show for me. I think the season Gabriel was on was the last season that I enjoyed literally only because of the judges and host and their opinions (and lack of comedic standpoint, in my opinion).

Pete! I've just come to this vid after seeing three or four of your later shots on "Tonight Show." And before knowing that there were famous-comic judges here, I actually really liked this set. The quarterback/cheerleader joke seemed to work better here than it does in later sets, when you seem to have taken all the notes and made the "character" less nice-but-fairly-"guy"-type guy and more ambiguous at the outset (more sibilant S's, snappier dresser, ultra-Wisconsin-nice, and such). I loved those sets on Fallon, really, but I also really liked this one. (And, you know what, I nearly married a Canadian cat lover, so I totally understand the need for the cat jokes.)
I know Pete's comic history I've followed him for years, they are wrong. but they are Only guilty of not knowing the scope of material he has. I think what they wanted was a clear arc in his set. Like more about his journey from childhood ending wife grandpa & cat. less randomness, but I've seen him work a crowd sampling what jokes do best then tailoring his set for the best result rather than using set text he cares more about his audiences enjoyment level sacrificing a little randomness for a clear journey, climax, conclusion. I'd like to see him explore politics and other social subjects using his clearly unique way of seeing things. I don't think that he would use specific people to make the butt of the joke. I think he could find humorous ways of looking at issues from all sides extracting equal humor in both the pro & the con of a subject. I think he's the guy that finds random humor in everyday conversation. He's the one you invite first and if he can't come you know this will now be a gathering and not a party.
Exactly why AGT is still something I watch. At least once people get past the judge's cuts, etc. The people actually watching get the opportunity to decide the outcome. I just wish voters weren't so dull and ignorant because there have been plenty of comics that I would have rather seen more of (and I'd like to see a comic win at some point).
haha, I used to meet ppl online during video game chats and other chatrooms and if a guy had a last name that sounded Asian, I'd think that too but it's usually another white guy. German and English names sound the same as Chinese or Korean names (Long, Lee, Seng, etc.) :)
@@kylerodrigues9090 Finding people who are good at anything doesn't make you a good comic or a good judge of comedy. The whole point of comedy is that it is by opinion. Some comics are hilarious, to some people, whereas the same comic to another person is not funny. It's subjective to a person's personality and their life experience. If a person is in high school, they may laugh at something without understanding, but it's funny to them. An older person may laugh at the same thing, with an understanding of the joke, or may not because they don't have a connection with the joke's premise (I believe that is the correct word). I personally don't agree with any of the judges or the host and I enjoyed the set.
I think the judges were on point...if you really listen to what they say they are all very impressed......they didn't say any part of his set was bad...they are just telling him where the gold is in his set and advising him to dig into that more...thats their job...to sharpen up comedians on their way up.
In my opinion, after the third season, or whenever the show changed it's format (and it's cast), of Last Comic Standing, the show was kind of a downer. The comics were mostly funny, as normal. However, the "comics" judging and the host ruined many of the sets with the their responses. I watched as many seasons as I could before Rosanne and the host (and the other two people) made many of the comics I liked seem like they were crap. I thought you were funny and I've been looking through some of your sets. You weren't "judged" correctly, again, in my opinion. I hope you're still doing comedy, and as I've only seen a couple videos so far (I literally stopped watching around the middle of the 4th or 5th [not sure which] season of Last Comic Standing), I enjoy your comedy approach. Thank you.
Sorry, but J. B. Smoove is all style over substance here. Pete Lee has absolutely killed it in all his Tonight Show appearances, better than anything I've seen from Roseanne Barr or Keenan Ivory Wayans.
