in 4.2 you need to go to extentions tab to get loop tools

For a high level product shot, I would consider using tesselate addon for the outer mesh, to create actual geometry instead of material based.

@12:55 I don't get the same result from the grid fill. In the video it shows same as my result then next frame jumps to your model showing rather than on the left and a nice tidy grid ready for the inset. Thus far I have failed to achieve your result without adding loop cuts which starts to trash the topology.

sir you would not made the outer black part with cylinder having loop cuts and then bevel and deleting the faces, extrude normal , bevel sharp edges.... why you did it like you made??
