Man... I have to thank you so much for this, not necessarily because I'm stuck in choosing between the both brands, that's besides my point. But for doing this and going through all the research and the quality of making these videos! Obviously you're not making it for free, but it makes me happy seeing people like you who are passionate about stuff that the majority of people either take for granted or don't care about at all!
Haha thanks for coming to my ted talk, great video! :)

I bought the sony today. These same two tvs were sitting in the viewing room....they unfortunately weren't playing the same video but the brightness and colors of the sony had me sold. I've had two Samsung TVs and never dreamed of spending this much for a tv but 36 months no interest.....cant beat that. I would rather deal with blooming than a dark screen.

AT the beginning of the video, you discussed blooming. Yes, the actual area of blooming around the white boxes was less on the Samsung, but it raised the black level of the entire screen when two boxes were on the screen. The Sony's bloom around the boxes was larger, but the screen stayed black pass the blooming area. I'd rather have that then have the black level of the entire screen raise up like on the Samsung.

I speak a little English and I understand bits and pieces, but I lose most of it because it is a technical vocabulary. Therefore, he launched a petition. you could post an audio transcript of your video so we can translate it so we can learn more. we are 55 million people speaking Spanish. Leopold There are a couple of reasons for this. The big one is that HDMI 2.1 devices (besides a handful of 2019/2020 TVs) still aren’t on the market.
4K120 just isn’t something that will be mainstream in the near future. By the time 4K120 is anywhere close to being mainstream people will be buying a new 2025/2026 TV with built-in ATSC 3.0 tuners.
It will only be useful for high-end PC gamers when the 3080ti and newer are available and that’s only if the 3080ti has 2.1. Most people don’t have $1200 GPUs and they never will. It’s easy for Sony to save money since it really doesn’t affect the majority of buyers.
The most important feature from 2.1 for TVs/home theater use is eARC and 2.1 isn’t needed to implement it.

    • @gavin4711
      @gavin4711 4 роки тому +1

Having much lower input lag, 120Hz at 4k with VRR, Freesync and G-sync while still maintaining good picture quality and good HDR. Pretty much everyone is looking at LG CX models for gaming right now. Hey Vincent, for a while I've been wondering if my Samsung Q7FN was broken, but now you answered me. Their game mode definitely reduces image quality and elevates blacks, I see the exact same results as you, even though they're 2 years apart. More than that, Samsung's backlight fluctuations can be really bothering when playing games. It happened on Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V mostly at night. I initially thought it could a game engine issue, but now I am almost sure it is Samsung algorithm messing up the backlight level. It tries to be smart and keep the picture contrast on optimized levels, but in my experience it never "decides" for low or high backlight and ends up being a complete mess.

I just recently got the Sony x900e. I absolutely love the clarity and brightness of the TV. But, I'm very disappointed in the motion blur it has. The only way to fully get rid of motion blur is to crank up the motion settings all the way. And I really hate that sope opera effect. I see here that's its still the same with this Sony. You can see it as clear as day with the windmills, and the fast movement of the birds head. Sonys picture is definitely superior. I just wish the motion blur was better.

That one seems to work best, and I have tried playing with every setting to help with the motion blur and shadowing, but it's still noticeable. The only way to get rid of the shadowing is to set it to smooth, but then I get lots of artifacting and that soap opera effict ,which I hate.
I also have read in forms, that lots of other people have it too. They say that people like me have a really keen eye to seeing the blur, but to others, it doesn't bother them.

Motion blur is better that constant stuttering. My LG B7 OLED stutters like crazy on 24p content because the image persistence is so low. It’s the reason I’m looking to get a LED TV next time, along with the brightness being too low. Iconically the fix in my case is also to use the soap opera filter on lower settings… no thanks :)

How fast it response to control? How well it work with apple tv? How reliable it works with external speaker? What feature it has for daily use? I thinks those are the differences that consumer can tell everyday without have multiple of them comparing side by side. And I think those are more important factors that will affect the user's experience and those are more likely to be the key factor when I choose a TV among these brands. What’s interesting is that Samsung’s more aggressive local dimming must cut into QLED greater color luminance. Both these sets are lackluster for the money though. Seems like LEDs are a worse value this year, now that they’re pushing 8k. While OLED will never have less dimming zones while going down in price, LEDs can cut corners lol.

10:04 On my Q8FN it is possible to fix the de-saturation problem.
I can confirm with my Q8FN that Game Mode is pretty drastically de-saturated, but then I can also enable "Contrast Enhancer" to raise HDR brightness to practically match Movie Mode.
Of course I'm fairly certain that "Contrast Enhancer" throws any hope of using a calibrated image out the window, and Game Mode still has the issues with black crush, but I believe Samsung's contrast problems in Game Mode are mostly a firmware calibration issue and not an actual processing limitation.
Excluding the Black Crush problem, blooming control behaves identically in Game Mode and Movie Mode.

If you dont play games, and like tv or movies, and compressed vids, just buy sony.
I have a lg cx oled, but this feature is the only feature, that is slightly better on a sony oled, i admit.
Frame rates are more fluid. I forgot, sound is better too.

At 0:17 you can easily guess the TV at the right is Sony. The colour reproduction is so much better and natural. 10 years ago my parents had bought a Sony over a Samsung for the same reason. Its somewhat surprising even after a decade, the difference is still so apparent considering how massively Samsung invests in making screens.

I'm looking forward to the XH90 being released as that's the one I have my eye on. Cheaper than the xh95 but hopefully more future proof with a better SOC and HDMI 2.1 ports.
The XH90 only has the X1 vs the X1 Ultimate in the xh95 and no X-wide angle layer however I am upgrading from an XE85 which also only has the X1 and no X-wide angle either and that is a great TV, plus I keep my XE85 in game mode anyway as all my stuff goes into a single HDMI port from an AV receiver so all the fancy up-scaling and motion tech is disabled for me anyway. From researching the differences between the X1/Extreme/Ultimate are only minor to the untrained eye anyway.
For me the upgrade to the XH90 is for the FALD backlight and the higher HDR brightness it brings otherwise I am very happy with the XE85 and that will become my bedroom gaming TV.
From reading a translated Chinese review the XH90 does have less backlight zones than the XH95 but they also only max out at around 850 nits compared to 1200 on the XH95 so whilst less zones might mean more blooming the lower peak brightness might help in that respect too, either way for me personally it is still a massive HDR upgrade as my XE85 can only hit around 450nits and I find that looks amazing anyway.
Was it crap that Sony didn't put HDMI 2.1 in all their 2020 TV's? Yup, is it the end of the world? Nope as the XH90 I believe is the TV they are aiming at gamers and right now gamers are the only ones who will primarily benefit from HDMI 2.1 other than eARC which all the 2020 TV's support anyway. Reviews of the XH80 which also has the same X1 processor as the XH90 give that thing a sub 10ms input lag measurement in game mode vs the 20ms of the XH95 with its X1 ultimate so hopefully the XH90 with its standard X1 is closer to the XH80's input lag time and with its HDMI 2.1 features and FALD backlight will be the TV of choice for the new Xbox and PS5

I can't find a confirmation yet but I think they've just renamed the "X1 Extreme" to just "X1" in 2020, thats the only thing that makes sense just now unless the XH90 is the 85 series upgraded to FALD from Edge-lit, with the "old" X1 you have in your XE85, in that case I think they will release an XH92/93/94 in September, bringing back the X1 Extreme.
I'm leaning more towards the former rather than the latter since even the XH80 has "X1" this year, so maybe XH80/XH85 is the old X1 and XH90 has the new X1/rebranded X1E. Its bloody confusing...

@@Kuranghi From what I have been reading the XH90 is intended to be the replacement for the older 85 series so it appears the XH90 is going to perform as good as the old 85's but with FALD. So it will be XH70 as the base model XH80(edge lit) XH90(FALD) as the Midrange and the XH95 as the top of the range for the consumer (non master series) LCD's this year.

@@Stuey3D After this video I've changed my mind, given that the XH95 has 48 zones, I think that means the XH90 will have less or the same number of zones and there will be an XH96/97/98 in September with 60+ zones.
I think I'm just in denial that 4K LCD is dying though... lol

@@Kuranghi Not seen any of the master series in person to be honest. I am hoping the XH90 reviews well as it seems to be the one I am gravitating towards this year, I'm currently torn between the XG95 the XH90 & XH95 It has to be FALD though. For me personally this will be the last TV I buy for a few years my old Samsung went 9 years before an upgrade and I hope I get nearly the same out of whatever TV I buy this year the XE85 will finally replace the Samsung which was relegated to the bedroom a few years ago.
Hopefully when I am due to upgrade again micro LED will be mainstream and competitively priced, as you'll get all the benefits of OLED with extra brightness and no risk of burn in.
8K will no doubt be mainstream by then although I see 8K as a pointless upgrade, hell even 4K over 1080p isnt a huge noticeable difference at normal viewing distances for me HDR was the big upgrade this generation HDR is AMAZING!

Another great video! This really shows what features are important in each display depending on the source and use. For myself I would go for the Sony given it is more accurate for movie viewing. But for a gamer it's clear the Samsung is a better choice. Thanks again for the video!
