The techs who did mine said I had to go with the SE Clutch and springs or I would encounter slippage. Techs have told me you need the back-pressure for the M8 performance and folks have come back to switch back to factory header pipes that have the catalytic converter because they lost performance going with straight pipes or 2-1-2 and 2-1 and is why the kit comes with the header pipe.
Cycle world, one week ago, performed a dyno on the street glide with the 131 and the stock 114. They also performed 0-60 and quarter mile. The stock 114 0-60 4.8 seconds., 131 4.0 seconds. Horsepower and torque are high rpm range. Too much money for little gain. It does get up to 100 mph faster but if there is a turn, ouch lean angle.
I am not surprised. I am much more familiar with cars and boosting performance. We always did the clutch plate and springs to avoid the clutch shudder a good series.
I LOVE the sound coming out of that 2-2 exhaust, but I think it would be interesting to do a fully tuned comparison against a 2-1 exhaust to see whether it makes as much of a difference as people think. Personally, I say keep the 2-2. The thing's a beast! can't wait to see more.
Great video, kinda stands to reason that in order to get all the potential to the rear wheel engine, clutch, gearbox chain and sprockets play their individual parts. I seen guys build up motors in their cars and totally neglect the rest of the drive system and burn out the rear ends or twist the drive shafts. Keep up the great videos!
Very helpful info man, now I know that if I wanted to do the 131 upgrade I would definitely want to upgrade the clutch while i'm at it. I would make a searchable clip of that part so people who aren't subscribed to you can find it (i know right, who isn't subbed to Blockhead pfff lol)
My vulcan 2000 is making similar numbers on the duno, i am looking to ulgrade my clutch as well. Looking at carbon fiber with 20% stiffer springs. What friction material did you upgrade to?
I have a 131 stage iv fat bob, dealer didnt mention clutch plates, so i burned my clutch rolling backwards downhill on freeway lanesplitting. They then told me the stock and se plates arent that much of a difference and that it was my fault for riding too hard and abusing the clutch, even though i had asked them about the clutch because it was on harley site for the 131 kit. The stock plates didnt last more than 2 hours. I wish i would have seen this before hand. Also i upgraded to a 5.3 gallon tank and i get at best 100-110 mile range even with a dyno tune.

I hope you stick with the Sweepers Block. Everybody and their preacher who builds a Harley that’s even mildly performance oriented goes with a 2 into 1. I kinda want to see what it’s like with a 2 into 2 exhaust.
That’s because everyone and their preacher want to get the most out of their build. Why build a performance oriented bike and leave a bunch of full range torque and HP behind. If you read dynos and just look at peak numbers you are missing the boat especially on these big builds you can leave 15 foot pounds on the table in the sweet spot till the pipes can catch up sort of speak. Ultimately 2 into 2 or even shorter 2 into 1s will get those peak numbers it just takes longer. There’s plenty of information out there to see what goes on. On some baggers there are head pipe combos with dual exhaust that do perform very well on an M8 throughout the optimal rpm range. Hopefully that gave you a little idea of the differences
Joe Sainato I understand the reasons why. I’ve seen dyno numbers and tests proving why 2-1 exhaust are better for performance. I just want to see what a performance build would do with a 2-2 exhaust for once. Ultimately it’s Block’s choice either way. I was just curious.
Thanks for posting these. You may have mentioned your current exhaust in another video (or maybe I should know by looking at it), but what are your current pipes in this video? Looking forward to following this, because I have the exact same thought process but it's hard to find info about 131 with improved tune/exhaust/cam.
