I started building my own rods based on watching you. And you are right, have ended up repairing a few guides, a tip, and replaced an entire old cork handle and seat with split Winn grips for a great "new" rod. Money well spent on the set up.
Somthin thats very easy to do that alot of guys just dont know exactly what to do. Great video man, glad you thought to make it because it'll definitely help me with some of my rods
Like Matt said even though I’m super handy I was always intimidated by rod repair. I learned a lot by stripping an old rod down to a bare blank. A dremel with a cut off wheel to remove the reel seat. Once stripped I practiced by putting a couple guides back on. I turned that old blank into a reamer. The Flex Coat channel has a great tutorial on that. The most important thing I’ve learned is that below 70 degrees the thread finish epoxy doesn’t fully cure and harden.

Glad to help
Thank you so much. I really needed to see this. I've been meaning to fix a few guides but was nervous. Now I'm feeling pretty confident.
You can do it
Great video Matt.
I would like to see a handle repaired on a Casting Rod that needs to be totaled replaced.
Great suggestion!
Another great how-to video! Thanks for showing this!!
You bet!
Thank you Matt, this exact same thing happened to me. Now I see how to fix it.
You can do it
I did one of these myself this week...basically just like you did it! I have at least two more to do this winter. Very informational!
That is awesome!

A warm room is better
Loved the trick with the hot melt glue. Have to replace and eye on my rod this winter and that will be a big help. Thanks Matt.
Glad to help
Great video and tutorial, I have several rods that need repairs. Going to look into the tools required. Have a great weekend.
You can do it
Thanks Matt
You bet
Good information
Thanks
I have the same problems 😕. Thanks Matt
You bet
Thanks I’m planning on replacing guides on 2 rods this winter
Glad I could help
🍺Thanks Matt🤠.
Thank you!
Good timing, just broke two guides
Bummer but now you can fix them
I made a rod turner out my Weber charcoal grill rotisserie turner.
Awesome
What hours are the Stefan tackle shop open? 😂
Hahahaha
Matt, you forgot to tell them about putting it on the rod spinner for drying the epoxy,so it dries spread out and even.😮
It was in the drying rack to put the epoxy on but i should have been more clear
How about using some heat? Like match and heat up the metal eye part pull it out with pliers and place a new guide and some 2 part glue?
You can do it but generally that won’t hold. Nearly as long, I’d prefer to fully repair
i hope this video stays up until i need a guide replaced.
I’m not taking it down
Can you show us how to repair a rod that’s broken, say, 1/3 of the way down?
Well that might not be salvageable
On average, how many rods do you repair after a season?
10 I’d say
@@MattStefanFishing wow
So like about 3k in rod replacement without repairs.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks
