The Philippines is our 23rd country, and as always, we started it off with a thorough food tour!!! 🇵🇭 We surprisingly never got the chance to truly try Filipino food until that day, so all first impressions and opinions were genuine! Have you tried any of these foods, and if so, what’s your favorite? 🤗
You spoke truthfully: Filipinos are among the friendliest and happiest people I have known. I’m glad you sampled sinigang, lechon, adobo, and lumpia; they are some of my favorites. Halo-halo is the best on a hot day, and every place seems to have their own way of making it. I hope you also get to taste pancit, pandesal, and any kind of sticky rice. If you go to Luzon you must visit the Banaue rice terraces. ♥️ Have a great time!
How cool!!! 🥰 We LOVE your country of origin and all its delicious food and friendly people. It’s an honor to visit and share our adventures on Cebu! 💖🇵🇭
If you like delicious food, then Cebu, Philippines is for you. The restaurants that you visited served very savory dishes. You sold me on the Philippines!
So excited you made it to the Philippines! A lot of Filipino food tends to be either salty or packed with flavor, so a lot of those foods are meant to be eaten with rice to break up that saltiness !
YES! Salty indeed- and perfect to pair with rice! 😋🍚 It was by far some of the most flavorful food we’ve ever tried! Everything had such complexity in flavor! 🇵🇭
Taro ice cream! Yum :) I just love the vibe of your videos - authentic, calm, kind, and filled with respectful curiosity. Two quick things: It's called making the sign of the cross! Not Catholic cross LOL and the expression is down the hatch not hatchet! hatch like putting something down the hatch on a sailboat. Congrats on 23 countries - almost to the halfway mark!
You should try d real lechon in cebu, the whole roasted pig kind. Not just d lechon ka wala. Cebu s famous for their whole roasted pigs. And try visiting attractions south of cebu city like beaches n resorts. Have a pleasant stay in d Philippines ❤
So happy to be in your country!!! 🥳🇵🇭 Yes, we definitely need to find the whole roasted pig! The lechon kawali was already sooo good- I can only imagine how good the real deal is! 😋 Thank you so much for watching! 💖
Im from Cebu City, but you eat the Lechon Kawali variant of Lechon you need to try the Ordinary Lechon Style you can try it in like Rico's Lechon, Cebuchon Lechon, House of Lechon or Car Car City Lechon...enjoy 😎
⭐️ Our food almost always goes with rice; you’ll find it on the more salty side; because you literally have to get a little rice and whatever dish in every spoonful. It balances out in that way.
Hi Chad and Claire! Thank you for visiting our country. I hope you had a memorable trip and enjoyed the beach, the people and the food! Just want to share some food tips for future visit again ☺️, Kare-kare tastes better when you put a bit of the shrimp paste to it and with the plain rice, and for the Halo-halo, try to mix them all together ☺️.
Wow!!! What a fun tour- we haven’t gotten the chance to see Manila or Hanoi yet, but it’s on our list! 😁😁😁 I’ve heard both cities have AMAZING street food! 😋
Welcome to the Philippines. One thing with our cuisine is that 95% of entreés is meant to be eaten with rice. Now, the quintessential "sauce" with any Pinoy foods, especially when it comes to fried, meats, or seafood, is the vinegar and soy sauce combo. The pink sauce with the lechon kawali is vinegar with onions. Optional items to put into the sauce are garlic and tomatoes. Man, I'm so hungry now. Enjoy
So glad you finally made it to the Philippines. I was screaming at you when you dipped the lechon in both sauces.😂 😂😂 Then Claire eats sinigang with the Ladle just cracked me up. When eating filipino dishes you mostly eat it with rice, especially dishes that have sauces like the Kare-kare, it just taste better. 😊
The purple ingredient in the middle of you Halo-Halo is Ube or Purple Yam. The ice cream on the top is Ube flavored ice cream. You could find a lot of dessert or pastries in the Philippines Ube flavored. You should definitely mix halo-halo, but you can slowly shove done the spoon until ice is a littble crushed and everything is mixed.
Hey you two just bumped into your video and I haven't seen both of you for awhile now since your van life videos! glad to see you both again and enjoy your trip!!☺
I'm Filipino living in SoCal, and I'm really happy to see other than Filipinos enjoy our homegrown dishes. The ones you tried are Pinoy faves. Glad you liked them. They're eaten family style with rice. Rice is a staple on Filipino food. We eat rice for breakfast (should try tocilog, losilog, tapsilog or bansilog---cured pork, Filipino sausage, marinated beef, and milk fish respectively, each served with garlic fried rice and fried egg), lunch and dinner. Next time you have halo-halo, mix it up (that's why it's called 'mix mix') Thanks for this video, I enjoyed watching it. Try pancit bihon, and pancit Malabon ( noodles), for dessert, try sans rival (it's my fave) , seafood-- adobong pusit (squid), last, but not the least, green mango shake. Yummy :)
That is absolutely fascinating! The hotel we stayed at served rice with breakfast, and as rice lovers, we LOVED it! 🥰🍚 Thank you for your tips and recommendations- I’m happy to say we had the chance to try many mango shakes, and they were some of the best fruit shakes we’ve ever had! Fruit in the Philippines is on another level! 😋🥭
Great vlog today, guys! Btw, Claire is giving me some Taiwanese vibes. I was born, raised, and live in Taiwan, so when she mentioned Lu Rou Fan 滷肉飯 (Taiwanese Braised Pork over rice), it rang a bell in my head. Am I correct to say her parents immigrated to the U.S. from Taiwan?😊Fun fact: there are over 250,000 Filipino Overseas Foreign Workers (OFW's) living and working in Taiwan.
Yes!!! I’m Taiwanese-American, and it makes me so happy that you could sense the Taiwanese side of me! 😁 And that is a fascinating fact! 🤯 I had no idea there were SO many in Taiwan! Thank you for sharing! 💖
I’m so glad you visit my home country. The food and the ppl are top notch. I consider the Philippines as the melting pot of the Far East with a Spanish flair. Enjoy and safe travels.
Thank you so much!!! 💘🥰 Hahaha after we ate half the halo-halo, we got a good mix, and all the flavors paired surprisingly well! Now, we crave halo-halo! 😂 It’s such a unique dessert! 🍨
Hey guys, One thing you didn't know that I love Philippines so much because it is beautiful and entertaining place out there. I would love to go there so badly and enjoy myself put there. I would love to try Lumpia, Filipino breads and even Halo Halo which means mix mix in Filipino. I do learn some Filipino phrases too. You would love it there! Mabuhay Pilipinas! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
We LOVE the Philippines!!! 💘 It’s such a special country with some of the smiliest people we’ve ever met. And the food is outstanding! We are so happy we got to visit, and we’re determined to visit even more islands! 😁🇵🇭
I really liked this Philippines food video. You got typical dishes that many vloggers have, but you also had other dishes that I don’t usually see or never heard of. When I do travel Philippines, I will definitely go back to this vlog for reference.
This is such a kind comment- thank you!!! 🥹💖 We’re so glad we could share a couple of dishes you might not have heard of before! 😁 Excited for you to visit this lovely country in the future and delight in their cuisine! 🇵🇭🥰
Lechon and Lechon Kawali are two totally different dishes but both are delicious. what you ate is "Lechon Kawali". Cebu is known for having the best Lechon.
Welcome to the Philippines, a little heads up for you both, when pronouncing Filipino words, we don’t slang them and we just use the vowels as is, for food every dish goes with rice, we use spoon and fork not knife and fork, try the inexpensive version of the dishes found in places called a “karendirya” or “turo turo” where you just point to a particular dish and they will plate it for you
Just discover your channel because of this Philippine video, now i am a fan. By the way,you have to mix altogether the Halo halo to thoroughly enjoy the flavors.
Love you guys! But a few suggestions... Eat all viands with rice! Rice is life for Filipinos... And the Halo Halo, mix it as you go down so it's not that sweet♥️
Wow Philippines is where I was born and grew up but I’m from La Union ( Northern Philippines). Went to college in Manila and you should see Manila too. Enjoy!!!
That is so cool- we love your country of origin so much! 💖💖💖 We really want to check Manila out as well! 😁🇵🇭 We definitely have to visit more islands! There’s so much to see!
SO happy to finally be visiting your ✨motherland✨ 😁 We loved every second of our time there, and we’re already thinking about returning in the future! 🇵🇭
Most Laing(lah-ing) looks more like creamed spinach. For the halo halo eat the ice cream and leche flan first and then it makes it easier to mix. Eating the ice cream first is like having two desserts in one. 😊 If you’re in Cebu you need to go to House of Lechon for real lechon. lechon kawali is not the same.
Intro sound like I'm about to watch a documentary. Pro tip though, try the dishes with rice, cause they're all traditionally made to be paired with rice. Overall, good first impressions.
Ohhh you're in our beautiful island of Cebu!!!💞💞💞 SUBSCRIBING NOW!💞 I saw your Taiwan vlog first and i really like you both!💞 I subscribe to all vloggers who come to Cebu. Thank you for enjoying our food and appreciating us Cebuano peeps. Hope you have a wonderful time here.
Don't forget that we Filipinos have special love affairs with rice. Plain rice is eaten with dishes that have very bold flavors because they are meant to be eaten with rice. Such dishes are called “ulam” in Tagalog and viand in English. You don't eat them alone like western dishes, say a meatloaf or a roast turkey.
Good to see you there and my home Country Chad and Claire hope you enjoy your stay there.. I miss all the food and all the food that you ate is my favorites 😊
We’ve been wanting to visit your home country for the LONGEST time, and we’re so glad to have finally visited! 😁🇵🇭 What a joy it must’ve been for you to grow up eating these food- they were all delicious! 😋💖
I'm Filipino and I found this video so hard to watch because I'm presently eating cold pizza LOL, I WANT EVERYTHING that you showcased! Tomorrow, I'll drop by the local Filipino Food place and get some Ox Tail Kare Kare, Chicken Adobo and Pork BBQ 🙂
Hahahaha not the cold pizza 😂😂😂 Thank you so much for watching, even though it made you ~hungry~ 😁😋 Even while I was editing, my mouth was watering so much, I had to take frequent snack breaks 😂
the thing is filipino food is very different in every regions/cities all across the country every household or restos has their own ways of cooking just one specific dish using different ingredients and process of cooking a dish so expect different variations in terms of taste and process of preparing filipino dishes if your traveling different places of thw country. the lechon that you ate is not the original lechon dish that's just the typical fried version. Filipino Lechon is a whole slow roasted pork on a pit fire. and if your looking for a vegan restos and snack shops or if you're craving for authentic foods from other countries most likely you can only find a lot of options in the country's capital region Metro Manila areas.
My favorite restaurant, Gerry’s Grill , I’m jealous hahah. FYI, Filipino food should be eaten with rice. Rice is life in the Philippines. I hope you guys enjoy your stay. Godbless 😘
Hahaha yes!!! Gerry’s Grill was wonderful! They offered SO many traditional Filipino dishes- we only wish we dined with more people so we could try even MORE dishes! 😁😁😁
im so nervous when you tried the sinigang, sinigang is my favorite but usually foreigners don't like the sourness of it. But im glad that you get it, im so proud.
As a Filipino, it pained me to see you eat all that good food without rice 😭 kidding aside, good to see you guys enjoy your time. Hope to see more videos!
Every time i see foreigners eat halo halo without mixing it makes me wanna go there in front of them and mix it for them 😅 bcoz u can never have the full experience of eating it if u dont mix it. But cant blame u, its not something u guys are used to eating. Nw, have fun and enjoy ur stay in the Philippines 🇵🇭 😊 love your videos!
Oh my, Red Horse? You guys are brave. That beer gives me the runs the next day. I'll stick with San Mig Light or Pilsen. Thanks for visiting my country of birth.
Oh my!!! We were not aware that that Red Horse gives people the ~runs~ 😩😮💨. Thankfully, we did NOT have the ~runs~, but we did share it. So maybe the smaller portion saved us from the tragic after effect hahaha 😂😂
The chicken adobo you ate isnt the traditional style. It should have looked more like the humba. Filipino food is a mix of different asian and Spanish dishes. The humba could be a derivative of a Taiwanese dish. Also the sourness of the sinigang I tell people its close to thai tom yum soup but with a different souring agent. Also most dishes are supposed to be paired with rice. Especially to mellow out the saltiness of the food.
Philippine as a nation is around 90% catholic. But. I'm very curious why the sign of the cross is unfamiliar to you guys? I'm in the US as well, and I'm sure you've seen Catholic church where you live.
Ah, it was remarkable for us to visit a country in Asia that had such a large Catholic population! After visiting other Asian countries, like Thailand, Taiwan, or Japan, seeing crosses at every street corner was fascinating! In the States, crosses are everywhere hahaha, so it’s not much of a surprise. But in Asia, it’s definitely a bit more rare (at least in our travels so far.) 😁😁😁
See Philippine is not only about food whot u still doing I live in Cebu for long time tourist like not only food also beach to go there need to go outside cebu also need improvement compared to Vietnam technical improvements and also the people need not to profit to the foreigner asking extra money special taxi driver I live there for 25 years and is not only diamond whot u see anyway u hawe done good video
Uh-Oh you massively ignored the garlic rice (aka sinangag NOT sinigang --- the latter is a sour soup with either fish or pork) --- rice is an Asian staple and Filipinos always eat rice with their food --- please don't ignore rice and set it aside as you discover Philippine culinary delights.
You ordered the best Filipino dishes. ❤
Try lecheon roasted suckling pig. Cebu is known for having the best tasting version of it. To me, this is their signature dish for the region.
Im glad you made it in the Philippines.🇵🇭 Enjoy your stay, our food & culture.

The halo halo is supposed to be mixed altogether by you as you eat it. The ice cream in top is usually ube.
For sour dishes like Siningang or rich taste Adobo, which also has vinegar its better paired with rice to tone down its sourness. Rice complement it.

Please try a proper Adobo and Sisig... the ones you had definitely weren't giving!
🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
😁🥰💖
You suppose to mix the halo-halo.
For Filipinos in general especially in Luzon, there is a debate on Adobo vs Sinigang. Adobo is easier to like but Sinigang is harder to forget. 😂
❤❤❤❤ im new here
You're supposed to mix that halohalo.
If it has soy sauce, it’s definitely Chinese influence. Try the real lechon, lechon kawali is ‘cooked in the fryer’ version.
Kumusta ❤
How to eat halo2x, you have to mix Halo2x before you eat. Just eat a little ice cream and then mix it.
Foods are so expensive in that restaurant..laing costs 305 pesos
It's not a banana lol, it's Jackfruit in the halo halo! Lol
You should eat it with rice ..
See Philippine is not only about food whot u still doing I live in Cebu for long time tourist like not only food also beach to go there need to go outside cebu also need improvement compared to Vietnam technical improvements and also the people need not to profit to the foreigner asking extra money special taxi driver

Uh-Oh you massively ignored the garlic rice (aka sinangag NOT sinigang --- the latter is a sour soup with either fish or pork) --- rice is an Asian staple and Filipinos always eat rice with their food --- please don't ignore rice and set it aside as you discover Philippine culinary delights.
lunar new year and spanish influence 💀
The adobo why it look so dry😅
We were wondering if it should’ve been juicier, too! Hahaha we’ve never tried it, so we thought that’s just how adobo should be 😂😂😂
The price are so yummy😅 too expensive
