    Great content! I am an LU student in the online Aviation program and without financial aid I would not be able to take the courses. Financial aid does not cover the full cost of the flight fees. I am going this route to obtain my masters in Aeronautics Engineering but I also want to obtain my PPL, Commercial, CFI and Instrument rating. It is a big load, I am able to do all of this by simply going the LU route. The added pros for my goals is the RATP program and having a BA degree to even qualify for commercial piloting with the big boys. The online courses are a breeze if you have motivation and are great at time management. I enjoy doing the coursework on my time and not going into a classroom. I am planning for several outcomes by having a plan A,B & C. If I only wanted to obtain my PPL I definitely would not have attended LU nor would I recommend this route I am taking. Each persons goals may differ.

    I think in the grand scheme of things at colleges overall, the biggest thing for vets to understand is that flight training is inherently unpredictable as far as timelines go in contrast to a standard class/lab/etc that universities structure themselves around. You only get your 4 years of Ch. 33 at the end of the day and all the weather cancellations, maintenance cancellations, getting the boot for another student of a higher priority flight to complete, etc. add up quickly over 4 years. The chances that you'll actually be able to knock it all out during that periodicity are hard to gauge and being that to the best of my knowledge, Ch. 33 funding is only allowed to be applied towards college-accredited flight programs instead of just like a zero-to-hero ATP school, I think that's something anyone with a G.I Bill looking to pursue flight training and education should keep in mind.

    I wish I saw this video earlier I am currently struggling with keeping up with the time lines and might need to withdraw and finish up my privates on my own and continue after possibly 😅 you’re absolutely right trying to learn the basics and even just the normal day to day with flying and keeping up with classes is a killer definitely do not make my same mistakes

    What a GREAT site you have and what worthwhile info. I have two grandsons, the oldest age 15, who is planning on doing the aviation program (not sure residential or online...I hope he chooses online but he is a highly recruited baseball player and he wants to play ball there if possible). He lives in VA. and based on your advice he will definitely get his PPL somewhere else and then, hopefully do 'early admission as a junior' at Liberty online and get his instrument (Liberty has already verbally approved this on the phone to me) ticket and possibly his commercial via a FAA R-ATP liberty approved flight school in VA. (he is not a vet so...the VA issue does not apply). Again, thanks.

    I’m about to start my flight school through Liberty this fall. A little off topic but I got an appointment with my VR&E counselor soon and was wondering what’s the best way go about getting the entitlement. I don’t have any degree but have 2 years worth college credit hours. Still have half of my Post 9/11 GI Bill.

      I have a video about this. "Two things you most do to be approved for VRE" I think that might help. Getting approved with VRE for flight training is difficult because you are getting into a field that requires a pretty clean bill of health, which is kind of the opposite of what you are trying to prove to your VRE counselor

    Is there any way to get out of ground school on behalf of Liberty University courses? I reached out and they sent me to the transfer portal, but ground schools that I have been looking at doing are online, and are not affiliated with college credits.

    • @Astrokeofluck
      @Astrokeofluck  7 місяців тому +1

      Nah. That's the shittiest part about it. You have to do 2 ground schools for everything. Not every R-ATP program is like this. fyi

    Using the GI bill, wouldn't you want to get your PPL through liberty? Even though you're essentially doing the work twice, wouldn't the GI bill cover the cost of it as opposed to going part 61 before starting the university and paying out of pocket?

    • @Astrokeofluck
      @Astrokeofluck  5 місяців тому

      VA won't cover your private, not at Liberty. It's not a course requirement.

  • @Flikz.

    If you already have your part 61 private and you are looking to use your gi bill pay for your flight training, what would you do? Because part 61 just isnt an option at the point for instrument/commercial.

    • @Astrokeofluck
      @Astrokeofluck  День тому

      Do 141, in a heart beat. You will still qualify for R-ATP

    • @Astrokeofluck
      @Astrokeofluck  2 місяці тому +1

      Find a school that offers a PPL through a degree program (Kansas State University for example) or go and get your sport pilots license (substantially cheaper than PPL) and just start building hours

      I would honestly not do flight school through a university, it's an insane amount of money. I would say go part 61 or do it through a community college. Just look at it from a financial perspective and do your comparisons. Also aviation degrees aren't very useful and Liberty University degrees are even less worthless. Pull out now before you waste hundreds of thousands of dollars!
