    Oh my gosh, oil paints?! Where have I been?! For some reason I didn’t realize that neon oil paints existed! That is a really cute set of colors though. Even though you mentioned struggling with the tiger at first, it actually turned out to be my favorite painting and I think the texture you got with the palette knife really took it up a notch too! Although it’s hard to pick favorites as I really love the jellyfish as well😍 I’d be left with an even bigger mess at the end I think😂 I’d probably even manage to get the paint in my hair!

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 роки тому +2

      Paint in the hair is definitely not unusual for me, haha! Today I had a big paint smudge on my elbow; no idea how that got there. 😂 The neons were so much fun to use, and I really want to get back into oil painting as that is really great as well. Easier than watercolours, because of the layering and blending they allow.

    I had no idea what you would end up being able to do with these neon paints, yet you made such fun pieces! I love the glow it gave to your galaxy painting - it ended up so pretty. The jellyfish and tiger also turned out really well. I do love the tiger, but you're right, we need sunglasses, lol! These are huge tubes of paint - it'd be a fun challenge to see how long it took to use them up; but you know me, always looking for a challenge. 😂

    Loved all the paintings especially the jellyfish.
    As you were doing the first, it reminded me of Christmas Day 1994 when I was at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. We started walking on the black lava fields of Kilauea before dark. There were warm spots. As it got dark, we could see glowing areas in the cracks. Lava, glowing red orange, was oozing down the hillside. Every once in awhile, a small bush would catch on fire. I even got to push a stick into the lava. I think your paints, with your skill, could make an awesome nighttime erupting volcano picture.
    Thanks for a fun video.

    I do love neon colors. They are fantastically beautiful. But aren't the colors very prone to fading? Even in an alkyd?

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 роки тому +1

      I would say so, neons as far as I know will always be fugitive. It will be interesting to see if my paintings fade over time.

    Wow, how interesting. You can get blue highlighters, but no true NEON blue actually. I know from being a nail polish enthusiast that there is supposedly no such thing as a neon blue or purple pigment (although you can make a purple from a regular blue and neon pink, so it's sort of half neon. The Opera Violet looked like this.) Seems like this is probably aimed at floral painters, and they just threw in an ultramarine and PV23 to just fill out the color wheel. In nail polishes, they usually make a "neon" blue just a very bright light blue, like a Cobalt Teal type color. (Boy I wish they put pigment info on nail polish LOL!)
    Now that I think about it, neon nail polishes dry notoriously fast - so fast, they are hard to apply. So I'm kind of surprised they would make them quick drying, but then again I don't formulate oil paint. I suppose you could add some linseed oil (wait, can you?) if they are drying too fast.
    I suspect they didn't include a white or black because this would be a "special" set you'd add into your normal oil paint collection, kind of like metallic watercolors. They probably don't envision people buying this as their first oil painting set or using it on its own.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 роки тому +1

      All of that is right, haha! I just mentioned black and white because it is so unusual to not have them, but now I think about it, Paul Rubens does a regular oil set too. 😬

    I wonder what those paints would look like if you used one of those worlds blackest paints as the base coat for the canvas. Like Black 3.0 or Musou Black. Would make for a more interesting black hole painting or any space related painting with gaseous nebula's and what not.

    Great video as always! I have a question because I want to build my own watercolor palette mostly with sennelier watercolors. Would you consider the color transparent brown or warm sepia more versatile? I am asking you because I cannot decide which one is more useful. Which one is more earthy?

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 роки тому +1

      Both are really great colours that I use probably as much as each other, haha! I started with warm sepia in a smaller set and that has always been a very useful colour, maybe a bit darker than the transparent brown. But I love how...well, transparent the latter is, so I think you can't go wrong with either option. Maybe sepia for the darker tone. Oh, and I would say it is more earthy as well. 😊
