I’ve had a cat genie for 8 years and I’m on my 3rd variation, the Cat Genie AI. I will say it is by far the best of the 3 versions. Setup is a breeze. Cooked poop is much less of a problem. I have 3 cats and 2 Cat Genies and I will never go back to any other litter system. I’ve never had the wet paws issue, mainly because I have it on cat activation so it’s cleaned after every use. One tip if you continue to use it, move your drain hose so it exits out of the back. Having the actual unit crimping the hose like that could cause a clog.
Good to see that a well rounded set of responses shows there is a litter box for every cat. My cat goes outside via a dog door to do his business, even in bad weather. That was after his bad cat genie experience. So, if it works, use it!!
I have one of these and cannot fault! No odor! I haven't replaced my granules for 18months with 2 cats! Also.. There is a mat which is available which stops the scatter.. The bowl is ample and I have no issues with odor or loss of granules.. The system saves a lot of money purchasing good litter.. The best thing ever invented!! ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️
It does, but as other commenters have mentioned, this doesn't seem to be a universal experience. Unfortunately, I can't identify exactly why Wessie experienced this or guarantee that others won't encounter it, but I can say that it's not necessarily going to happen to everyone who uses the Cat Genie.
Not really. Cappy was never supposed to flush down the toilet because it can infect the water with toxoplasmosis. And water plants are not equipped to handle and remove toxoplasmosis so therefore it just stays in the water and can kill sea life and wild life
EXCELLENT video - thanks very much! I'm 'investigating' owning a Cat Genie. My circumstance is my new (rescue) cat drinks a LOT and I've been cleaning his litter box twice a day. I used to be able to leave town for 2-3 days, and my (former) cats were just fine... this one requires more oversight. The Cat Genie does offer a hands-free advantage, but your video answered MANY questions I had about it. Now it's almost $600 to get in, and the supplies are more expensive than when the video was produced. Maybe the next generation Genie will be more attractive. Thanks again!
I worked out after 3 years it costs $19.50 AUD a month for 2 cats if you only run the cat genie once a day. the original cat little i used to get was $30 a bag and we had to get a new bag fortnightly. We also have the dome and a newer version mat that stops bead spread and we also keep it in our laundry room and we have a cat flap on the dividing door to keep the smell out during cleaning
Great review! I like to see how other cats experience goes with it. I got a cat genie in 2012 and have had a good experience. I have one cat, he used it right away, I can mention he was flunking citiKitty training at the time, he kept going doing his business in the sink or tub. I set the machine to cat activation mode so I have never experienced the wet paws issue. That cooked poop smell during the dryer cycle is horrible, horrible, horrible! I nearly returned it just for that. But I discovered leaving the bathroom fan on all the time is enough, besides once the dryer cycle is done there is no smell at all. Being kept in a guest bathroom one time a guest didn't know why the hose was in the toilet bowl and removed in putting in on the floor without telling me. Horrible cat sewage water was all over my floor when it ran it's next cycle, so make sure anyone using your toilet are aware do not remove that tube! After that I actually ended up putting the machine inside the bathtub and adjusted the wastewater tube over a funnel into the tub drain. I just run clean tub water briefly each day and the drain doesn't clog. This is a guest bathroom which the tub wasn't being used anyway so this set up has worked well in my home for years. I like the peace of mind knowing if the machine ever breaks the sewage is confined to that tub. Catgenie has stopped working a handful of times, it gave specific alarms, the user manual describes what each alarm means and every time I was able to fix the problem on my own and get it working again. The granules would track out on his paws a lot but having in the tub helps, now he has to jump over the edge so more of them tend to stay in the tub. The expense of the cleaning solution, maintenance cartridges, and occasionally buy more granules honestly cost about the same as traditional litter. But the convenience of never scooping or lugging dirty litter around is well worth it to me. But yeah same machine for 9 years running pretty amazing imo
We were pretty turned off when we realized how long the cycle was. We're VERY happy with our Litter Robot, though! We've been using it for two years now and it's great.
@@heymufti7526 What about if you have multiple cats, I have 3? So 30 min is way to long. They have a habit of deciding to go one after another on some sort of schedule.
@@BigRedsCrib you can set it to go off 30 minutes after the cat has left. so if they go one after the other this timer would reset. Or, you could manually go press it after you spot them going.
My husband and I had this for 2 years and finally switched to a different box. The one thing we didn’t even think about is the maintenance of the actual hardware. There’s a proprietary maintenance solution you can use which completely messed up a box of granules for us, so we decided to just take it apart and clean all the necessary parts. It was DISGUSTING. Think about all the waste that runs through it for the duration of 6 months getting caked up in the bottom. There’s a little plastic sensor stick thing that you have to take the whole thing apart to get to, and if it gets too much waste on it, you have to dig it out and wipe it off. All in all it just required too much work to keep up with. We just ended up getting the Scoop Free box, and it’s been so much nicer. We use the reusable pan and just hose it down when we have to change the litter. We also like that it doesn’t wake us up in the middle of the night.
If you clean it as instructed, the hardware won't be that dirty. It takes about 45 minutes to do, and gloves exist. It's the same waste that you hand scoop and breathe in with a regular box... My guess is that you were not running the maintenance cycles as directed, and probably didn't clean the box for the entire 2 years.
I love the cat genie. The main problem is taking it apart for cleaning but after a few times, it gets easier. My cat genie is hooked to my my washing machine plumbing. Cats adapted well to using it.
Don't buy into that BS. They walk away with more contaminants on their feet from a clay litter box than they ever would from the CatGenie. The CatGenie washes and dries its granules. This product is A+
@@samuelm.5752 I absolutely endorse it. It has served me faithfully for years.. Mine is located in the basement near the washer. It's so much better than scooping out rancid urine soaked clumps of clay and cat feces. The review is a bit bias. A regular cat Box has more Issues. Cats tracking dirty Urine laden clay particle particles all over your floors. Yuk. This unit flushes everything. Very little maintenance. A few Kernels may make it on the floor outside the Machine but nothing compared to a nasty cat Box Filled with Is odor masking clay particles. The machine washes the kernels and sanitizes them. So yes, I absolutely endorse this product.
@@samuelm.5752 Also Stacy Is stated that the cat's feet were wet with urine. This is absolutely not true. The machine dries the kernels completely. The cat's feet never get wet unlike unlike a clay filled cat box
Hey guys! Hope you found this review helpful. We also have some more information that may help you to decide whether or not you want to try this self-cleaning litter box. Petnovations Ltd., the company behind Cat Genie, contacted us and requested that we clarify the following details: 1. It is not recommended that you use an extension cord with the Cat Genie. The Cat Genie user manual discourages this practice due to fire hazard. 2. While it is normal to see some waste lingering in the toilet after one use, your toilet will self-level, eventually resulting in a full flush. The toilet bowl should be 98% clean after three uses. 3. In Cat Activation mode or when flushing after each use, there should not be any risk of your cat stepping in their own urine. 4. According to the company's sales data, users typically purchase no more than 2-3 boxes of litter and 5.8 SaniSolution cartridges each year.
We love ours. Bought two, one is hidden inside a large cabinet in the laundry room, the other inside a bathroom tub that we don't use. Not having to scoop or dump and having it dispose automatically is great.
best cat related reviews ever. thanks for being so thorough about the pros and cons of products while remaining mostly unbias/objective. i like how you can give your opinion but it doesnt sound like you strongly like or dislike the product personally. it makes it easier for people contemplating purchasing something
I really appreciate you testing this out and giving your review of it. It was very thorough and informative. Personally I think it's too much work and if you have a multi-cat household where one cat wants to use a litter box right after another one if it's going through the wash cycle the second cat is out of luck for a while! Thank you again much appreciated
I've had several CatGenie litter boxes for over 10 years and have been very happy with this product. There are a lot of negatives in this video that seem a bit unfair - like not mentioning that the granules are biodegradable, the cartridges are recyclable, it is safe for septic systems, uses only a small amount of water and electricity and is cost effective compared to buying clay/oil based cat litter for the life of your cat. Also, this box saves TONS of cat litter from going to the landfill (and their respective containers). You no longer have to transport, fill, scoop and remove waste using clay based litter. The convenience alone is worth the price - not to mention your cat will always have a clean litter box (it doesn't have to wait on you to clean it!). Everyone I have talked into trying one of these still has it today - don't judge something without trying it first :)
It’s a great machine I agree, but for 1 cat, for me I think it does use a lot of water and having 5 cats even if I have 2 machines it’s going to be a lot of water. Not to mentioned that my cats paws are wet and smell pee... but the concept and the creation it’s amazing ...
I think it depends where you live, and what type of litter you use. There are plenty of litters that are not clay or oil-based, and in some parts of the world, water use is an extremely costly and environmentally-important factor. So, if you have a huge house and live in a place where water is cheap, this may be an option. For those of us in small dwellings where it rains fewer than ten times a year, this is definitely not an environmentally friendly product.
@@SummaGirl1347 I live in SoCal - an extremely drought area and it only affects water usage slightly (with two cats). I have it on "auto" mode so that it only runs when necessary, saving water. Any additional water use expense still outweighs paying for litter.
@picassopc Just to be clear, she wasn't judging something without trying it first. The whole video was her trying it. She had a negative experience overall. That's fine if you have it, and have positive things to say about it though. Thanks for sharing them. For the record, regardless of the biodegradability of the litter, you shouldn't be composting or flushing cat droppings. Cat plops have parasites that can be harmful to humans, and water treatment plants, don't remove those parasites as they are not designed to treat water with human waste. Look up cats and toxoplasma. You may find it to be an interesting topic.
I have owned the Cat Genie now for 3 + years. I will never have a regular litter box again. The Cat Genie has been amazing! It works great! Plus it is healthier for your cat! Yes it makes noise but generally it is not in the same room as you so truthfully it should not be an issue! You can also set the Genie to manual mode. This way if your worried about your cat not being finished going to the bathroom, you can solve this issue by manual mode and this way when you know your cats sleep schedule have it go at that time. You also can set how many times the genie runs. My genie has already paid for itself. Think about how much you keep paying for litter by changing it and throwing it out. I buy solution twice a year and in the end it is still less than what I paid for litter in a year. My cat has never not once had wet paws either! The genie dries the litter after each wash cycle. Also as a heads up, Cat Genie has an amazing customer service. So if your machine is having an issue call them! I highly recommend this product to every cat owner!
Yes healthy for your cat, but awful for the environment. You're not supposed to flush cat poop down the toilet due to the potential for toxoplasmosis. Water plants are not equipped to remove toxoplasmosis from water that's recycled, and sewage water and that in the environment which ends up infecting wildlife and sealife.
Our experience has been much different -- Ours gets all solid waste every cycle. The only odor has been the laundry-like scent of the Sani-solution. Our cats seem to love it. We bought the AI version, so I get daily usage reports on my mobile device. Generally, it seems to be about 7 visits, and 5 cycles per day, and the max was 14 visits and 11 cycles. Scatter and tracking is far less than the Scoop-Free it displaced. We retained the Scoop-Free as an alternate, as well as two conventional boxes using Feline Pine. Since introducing the CatGenie, the pine litter gets used less frequently, and mostly for urine. The Scoop-Free is seeing less traffic as well, however one cat seems to still like it. Our users are four female cats.
Another great review, I had been thinking of this but guess I'll be sticking with my Petsafe litter box for the scooping and I'll keep changing the litter itself, thank you!
I had 2 of these - and with an elderly cat who leaves small pieces of poo, the smell was HORRIFIC when it went thru the dry cycle. I still have the unfortunate smell memory of that. Was so disgusting I got rid of them both. Then tried the Litter Robot - loved that for years but got sick of the pita cleaning of it. Was pretty gross to clean. Finally got rid of that and went back to scoopable plastic litter boxes that I can toss/replace when they get gross. (and yes, I clean them monthly)
I just bought 40L plastic boxes, loaded them with wooden pellets. Showered the pellets with baby powder every 3 days and change the litter once a week. I have 2 X 40L boxes.... For 6 cats (5 Burmese show cats) and 1 domestic ginger. No odour, no plumbing, no hastle.
@@marvelinosoriohewlett7207 I would give it a try . It's really affordable as well. Use baby powder over the wooden pellets . It kills odors and makes their fur soft
Note that flushing litter is strongly discouraged if you live near a coastline, as some feline parasites end up making their way into the water system. California law actually requires litter to have a statement telling consumers not to flush it ( FGC § 4501 ) .
Here at CatGenie, we had to do a lot of research and make sure our product was safe before we could go on the market. The occurrence of the Toxoplasma Gondii parasite in domestic cats while common, usually happens one time and does not often reoccur and when it does not as many “eggs” are shed by the cat in their waste. Almost all adopted cats from shelters have already been exposed and have passed the parasite through them before they were adopted. It is not illegal to flush cat waste and in fact is recommended by the EPA as the best way to dispose of animal waste. The issue of cat waste is about wild and feral cats, who go in the wild and its run off gets into the environment. I hope this helps!
I have owned 3 variants of the Cat Genie. While I wish they would just sell the control unit, I have not found a better liter box. Our cat used to clog the clumping liter box robot cleaners due to his diabetes. It was never an issue with the cat genie. We have ours connected to our clothes washer in the laundry room. We put a mat below it so any lose granules are rubbed off when the cats exit it. We have never had an issue with wet paws. It is a much cheaper, odour free and relatively maintenance free solution then paying $40/month for clumping liter.
We love our cat genie! As she said, it's certainly not perfect, but it's a great appliance for our household. We have several litter trapping mats outside the box.
I bought the Cat Genie for my cats. I installed it in my laundry room. The waste tube is in the drain of my water heater. THe plastics pallets are BIODEGRADABLE. I love it! The 2 things I don’t like is the pallets all over my condo, including in my bed!! And the second is that once in a while, tiny pieces of 💩 don’t get caught in the basket and when the drying cycle is on, it smells 💩. Considering everything, it is a very good product!
How many cats do you use it with? I was thinking i could cycle it at the end of the day as I have a private bathroom where I already have my cats litter boxes. I'm worries that there will be a lot of poo and waste at the end of the day unless I cycle a lot, which i don't wanna do. Edit: i have 3 cats
For a while, I had 2 cats, but now, just one. My cat genie started after the sensor was activated. It is the only cat liter in my condominium. When there is a number 2, it is so smelly that I started the cycle. When it is operating with the sensor, it is using less solution. With the genie and the usual cat litter, there will be real cat litter that will gunk the genie!!! I would test the genie (no real cat litter besides it) with the sensor on. When the cartridge solution will be empty, evaluate the overall benefits. Bottom line one system or the other! You can scoop the poops directly in the toilet and start the cleaning process once or twice daily! You decide what you prefer. Contact me if you have any other questions!
We have had a cat genie for either 11 or 12 years now. We just got the genie AI and it's far far much quieter then the 120. My daughter and I have asthma and the cat litter itself was causing problems for us. However, the cat genie ended all those problems and we were able to keep our cats. By far it's the best cat box out there. We have two cats and haven't had any problems. I have installed it, relocated it and moved it to two new house.
@@AllAboutCatsYT We have just set it up and it is running. We have a few things in our favor. It is in the laundry room where their litter boxes were already. We have removed one litter box and placed the CatGenie where the second litter box was located. I will give an update.
@@AllAboutCatsYT I also purchased the CatGenie mat - which I would never have purchased - you mentioned that cat tracking urine and I want to avoid that happening. Also, they have a new feature - I am sure as a result of your video - a little ball that helps in the clean up process to remove all waste - but I will update after we have used for a while
@@connorstern8413 Unfortunately, despite my work with the CatGenie, I had to return it. After two months of the machine breaking down and countless long phone calls with tech support, I came to the sad conclusion that for me, it was just not a reliable litter box. I don't regret tying it and the tech support was excellent but the liquid kept getting stuck in the basin and would not drain properly.
Thank you for this review it was extremely helpful. 👍 Sounds like you were really trying to give a polite yet honest review. This really helped me to decide whether this would work for me and my kitties.
I just purchased one, after seeing at a friends house. If someone have 1 cat okay, but I have 5 cats, it took a little be ( same day) but, all 5 cats used the cat genie, for me I found the machine awesome but, again for 1 cat . My machine I have it for 1 week now , it cost me $500 it’s a different model as far as the settings, there is only 1 option cat mode on or manual. Now what I see bad is the amount of water that it’s consumed in every cycle, once again, I think ideal is for 1 cat otherwise is a lot of water it washes twice, also 38min every cycle . Thank you for the video.
Based on this review I'm going to pass on purchasing this unit. Thank you for your honest review of this product. The negatives for me outweigh the positives. Especially since there are so many issues that can arise. Cheers!
Appreciate this was an actual (honest) review. Unfortunately YT is full of paid fake reviews. Good job. This was the first video i saw on your channel and will now watch more because of your trustworthiness!
this was such a thorough review! really appreciate it. i'm still debating if i want to try this, but i and my husband suffer from medical issues so it might actually be helpful. however....we have a multiple cat household so ew...don't know if this would actually be a real option for us. thank you so much!
Thank you for this thorough review. I definitely don’t think this is a worthwhile investment for me and my sanctuary- maybe when it gets some significant improvements. One concern that alarmed me is when you said that plastic pellets were being dumped into the toilet. That sounds like a big concern. I would think an expensive plumbing problem would develop.
Thank you for your video! I loved the idea of a self flushing/cleaning litter box, but getting the inside scoop on the product helped me to make a better informed decision.
Shes the only one who has negative things to say about the cat genie, I have 5 cats, and have fostered over 170 cats and kittens, and its the best thing ever!!!! I have tried everything out there that could make my life and litter routine easier. The cat genie is the best and only one I would purchase again!
I also forgot to mention that estimations are completely wrong! With all the cats I have and foster, I reload the sani-solution once every 4-6 months. And litter, I go through a lot of, I put a new box every 1-2 months.
Do you plan on reviewing the ChillX AutoEgg Self-Cleaning Litter Box?? There aren't very many thorough reviews on it yet making it difficult to decide whether it's worth it or not!
I have a drain and water connection in my garage where I keep my cats at night. So no issues with noise or smell. If my main priority is urine flushing, (I’m happy to scoop solids), then this should be pretty good for that singular purpose right?
I bet there’s an associated sticker shock due to the amount of power this thing must use. Imagine running a hair dryer 17 minutes at a stretch multiple times a day. And I wonder what kind of testing they did on those plastic granules regarding their impact when they inevitably end up in sewage systems and in rivers and lakes. I could swear stuff like that was banned here in Illinois.
Yeah, I remember some sorts of toothpastes and body scrubs being changed because they worked by adding small plastic particles to rub the teeth and skin. But all those plastic particles washed up in the oceans because they are too small to filter out of the sewage water.
The manufacturer claims them to be septic tank compatible with them being easily broken down by bacteria. Which is also how waste water treatment works. So whatever granules go down the drain won't end up in rivers.
I agree, I understand if you have several cats but how is any of this simpler or more convenient than just scooping out litter once or twice a day? I’ve seen self cleaning/self scooping boxes cost hundreds of dollars. Why? Of course there are cats that require pristine conditions but again I don’t understand how spending $500 on a litter box is worth it, but that’s just me
Bleep Loughly Because some of us are impaired by arthritis and can’t bend down to scoop. And arthritic hands can’t hold a scoop. And when you are 73 perhaps you’ll understand.
Linda Terrell listen, logically I understand that people use self cleaning litter boxes for a variety of reasons and I could not possibly list them all. I was not being dismissive or judgmental at all. I was merely arguing that these systems are supposed to be convenient (and they are, for many people) but for the vast majority of cat owners I don’t believe they are any more convenient than simply scooping out a litter box, which is why I commented in agreement with the original person. And this is just an opinion. Obviously if you can’t scoop out a box then this wouldn’t apply to you. Have a nice day.
I completely appreciate this video this video has saved me lots of money by not buying this device because the cleaning cycle is 17 minutes long along with drying the granules and I have four cats and when I called the company they said you could use up to three cats and what are the other cats going to do during that 17 minutes as you still have to use a litter box
As in thinking I'm going to look into some details on it. I couldn't use any scented wash solution. Between allergic people and most of that stuff is very dangerous to the birds that also live with us. I'd also look into the idea if there is an exhaust of the heated air that could be ducted or filtered. I'm guessing no because my guess is it blows hot air into the bowl and not the other way around.
How big is the rubber circle? You can find assembly instructions in your instruction manual or here: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0453/0058/0515/files/Operation_120.pdf
I cat sat for people that owned 2 of these and had 3 cats. The only problem I have had with it was it was CONSTANTLY running with all the cats using it. That grinding noise it makes is ingrained into my brain forever, much rather spend a couple minutes to quietly clean by hand personally. It also clogged during one of my stays and was a nightmare to fix. I've been sitting there for 5 years now and it has only clogged during my stays once so take that as you will!
We just got Nina a Tidy Cats XL Breeze because she wasn’t fully get in her old Arm & Hammer sifting box. That system is working pretty darn well, please and thank you. And this thing wouldn’t fit in either of our bathrooms!
Hi David, we haven't tried the Circle Zero yet, but of the other two, we certainly preferred the Litter Robot. You can see our review of it here: ua-cam.com/video/5i8muFdG5Og/v-deo.html
All About Cats Thank you for the fast reply! Would it wreck the device if someone placed regular litter and tried to run it? Someone in my household did that. It looks like clay now. Yikes!
@@ThatsMyBlackOpinion It certainly could; the Genie guide says that you should never put regular cat litter in the system. Even if it doesn't wreck the device, it would certainly void the warranty.
The time the granules last is based on 1 cat 2 cats they won't last as long. I also noticed that you had the Catgenie sitting on the hoses. Hopefully you will rectify this. We just set one up so will see how it goes. Looks ok so far
One item not reviewed that may make the thing more cat-cozy is a two-part snap-in dome attachment for the box which creates a very cozy poop igloo that might also help contain odors. Would've been nice to see you try that out here. Otherwise, very good review.
I think that the accessories may be a more recent release. For instance there is a pet mat to catch granules, as well as side walls to prevent mishaps such as poor aim.
Im just wondering with all these automated systems, is it only so people don't have to scoop anymore or are there other perks to it as well? Personally I dont mind the twice a day scooping, its maybe 5 minutes a day in total. I've got 2 cats and 2 very large litterboxes. One is in the backroom in my house and the other in the shed. (My yard is catified, they cant get out) I never have odor issues either (I also use petadore air eliminator with the one in the house)
The actual pan is so small, but the thought of that hose hanging over the toilet that I use grosses me out. Ick. If a human is using the toilet and your cat uses the Genie will the genie empty into the toilet with a human sitting there?
I love my cat genie 120....3 yrs later it's starting to show its age... What I don't like is I can't really buy replacement parts... Like a new scoop arm, or computer...the scatter...
I’ve been going back and forth between getting this litter box or the litter robot. I thought I would way prefer this one. But I think now I may actually like the litter robot more. Too bad that ones more expensive lol
My husband forgot to turn off the auto cycle and our cat was terrified with the cat genie after one experience getting caught near that noisy thing when they needing the litter box. She never came near it again. Very expensive experience
So if its plastic beads, that is going down the drain & into the ocean?? That's a no for me. Which is a bummer because it looked pretty good till you said that. Surely they could use some sort of clay product. I'm glad i watched this
Can you do a review of the Catit SmartSift litterbox? I literally just learned about it and it seems like a pretty good product, so I was naturally curious about what you'd think of it.
Hey Melissa, we'll consider it for the future! For now, it looks like an interesting, useful concept with some issues in execution. It has quite a lot of negative reviews on Chewy, with customers saying that its litter capacity is inadequate and it doesn't manage to capture all of the clumps.
Wow I was super interested in this for our new home until I realized that it's just plastic being flushed, that wet paws will track urine all around the house, and the fact that sometimes poop is left behind and that you can smell it during the drying phase. 😖. So glad I watched this video. So very informative. You have saved me a great bit of disappointment. Thank you so much.
@Dale Gehrking Did we watch the same video? I'm not even the only person who said that. 😂 Anyways, I ended up buying a Litter robot 3 connect (with the wifi in it) for my girls. They love it and as long as my cats are happy, so am I. Have a wonderful day! 🤗
@@nikkilargo the wet paws issue was caused by having having multiple cats, and having manual cycles enabled. When there are multiple cats going in rapid succession, the "litter" will end up a bit wet. So it may not be suitable for a 1 cat household. I'm glad the litter robot is working well though!! i'm considering the litter robot 4... I just don't know if my 3 cats will like the closed in nature of the lid. the 4 is a bit more open though. Maybe I will get a cheap, manual closed in litter tray for them to try...
@@connorstern8413 I think you're right. Oh and whatever you decide on getting do give us an update, please! While I'm happy with one I've had for some time now, I've been eyeing this Kickstarter litter box called the Popur. I just like that it looks like it's easier to keep clean and am very curious about it. I've also had to have a few pieces replaced on my LR already so I'm glad to see that the sensors on the litter robot 4 are in a much better place than on the three connect. That alone may make it well worth the purchase, for sure.
My beautiful Kitty-Cat is long haired and her back side needs to be trimmed from time to time. does anyone have a suggestion for a safe trimmer I can use at home? any help and suggestions i would be so grateful! Thank you!!!
Hello there! That's a great question. If your long-haired kitty has mats, you might appreciate a dematting tool like this one: www.amazon.com/GoPets-Dematting-Sided-Professional-Grooming/dp/B00OIOB90E/ If you want something a little bit brawnier, you might like this clipper and grooming kit: www.amazon.com/Sminiker-Professional-Rechargeable-Cordless-Clippers/dp/B01G30895S/ Hope this helps!
Thanks for making this review. I was seriously thinking about getting this litter box, but the wet paws, the lack of full cleaning and the length of time it is unavailable for use changed my mind about it.
Please note, you are NOT supposed to use an extension cord for safety reasons, among other device related reasons! Note that you can also use a floor drain like a walk in shower if you want a completely automated hands free experience, in which you don’t ever have to flush, but *most* people routinely flush their toilets.
Yep, thanks for this reviews. I saw their video and suspected this. Without cleaning the granules and removing all material from the granules there will always be wasted granules. I have not created my self cleaning box yet but also , ALSO doesn't this thing have to be hooked with plumbing to a drain of some type ? What if your pets are not by a drain ? That is another problem I see for many including rescue groups.
Thanks for this. I'm interested in these but suspect it wouldn't work for me. I want it to work but as you said the size of the bowl is so much smaller than even our smaller cat pan. Also the non absorbent litter would be an issue for our coon and Siberian. It's a shame. Our main box is in the bathroom already and the cats are fine with it there. I would be willing to plumb in a water feed, electric and a dedicated drain so it would avoid a lot of the things I can see that would prevent people from getting on board.
This is actually a genius design. She is right, that cleaning cycle is dumping a lot of the washable granules. They need a cleaning nozzle to spray the scooper clean and leave the granules in the bowl. I noticed it shakes the scooper as it started the scooping mechanism return cycle. It should have a cleaning nozzle spraying the scooper during the return phase to retain as many granules as possible. Sending these granules into a septic tank is not a good idea.
I absolutely love my cat genie. I bought the cartridges for a while until I learn how to refill them. Now it cost me less than $7 to refill multiple cartridges. If you don't like cleaning a litter box but love your cats this product is pretty damn good. I keep mine in the basement next to my washing machine where it drains into the washing machine output. Best product I've ever purchased for my cats
At this point I can just clean the litter box which takes me 10 - 15 seconds to scoop up the crap and put it in the trash bag, its really not that hard. Humans are just lazy. Than you for this review. My neighbor gave me one that they found since they don't have a cat, but after watching this, it really doesn't make sense for me to even invest in it.
Thank you for sharing your experience and tips.
Good to see that a well rounded set of responses shows there is a litter box for every cat. My cat goes outside via a dog door to do his business, even in bad weather. That was after his bad cat genie experience. So, if it works, use it!!
I miss mine so much. Had it 5 yrs and then my son tried to help by putting clay litter in it 😭

The bowl is ample and I have no issues with odor or loss of granules.. The system saves a lot of money purchasing good litter.. The best thing ever invented!! ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️
The cats walking around with paws wet with urine seems like a complete disqualifier.
for real. i will take litter on the floor and poo outside the box over tracking urine through the house.
It dry it idk why her cat has wet paws i have mine for a year never had wet paws
It does, but as other commenters have mentioned, this doesn't seem to be a universal experience. Unfortunately, I can't identify exactly why Wessie experienced this or guarantee that others won't encounter it, but I can say that it's not necessarily going to happen to everyone who uses the Cat Genie.
Agreed. I am stunned that the urine trail was not on the con list, in bold, red, caps!!!!
The whole thing looks like a big pain, now the litter genie! that's a good product!
It's a great concept. The person that put this unit together is a genuis. Love ours .
Not really. Cappy was never supposed to flush down the toilet because it can infect the water with toxoplasmosis. And water plants are not equipped to handle and remove toxoplasmosis so therefore it just stays in the water and can kill sea life and wild life
Thank you for this video. You're very informative, and I appreciate this.

@@AllAboutCatsYT Can the plastic granuals be harmfull to the cat if ingested?

If your cat needs to use a box every 25-30 mins, you need to take it to a vet immediately.
Thank you for such an honest review. I’ve made up my mind and decided not to purchase it now.
Urine wet feet sealed the deal. It's going to be a "No" for me. Thank you for doing the legwork on this for us!
Hey guys! Hope you found this review helpful. We also have some more information that may help you to decide whether or not you want to try this self-cleaning litter box. Petnovations Ltd., the company behind Cat Genie, contacted us and requested that we clarify the following details:

Thank you for making a review without any annoying carry-on!
I think there is a timer? 10-30mins post use. Or am I thinking of another self cleaner🙃
Thank you for sharing some of the positives that were overlooked in this video. All of your insights are greatly appreciated!
Thank you for sharing your experience!
THANKS A MILLION FOR YOUR VALUABLE EFFORTS.

My cat is getting older and sometimes doesn’t cover her stuff. Do you think this system you have would work for her?
@@marvelinosoriohewlett7207 I would give it a try . It's really affordable as well. Use baby powder over the wooden pellets . It kills odors and makes their fur soft
@@marvelinosoriohewlett7207 definitely. Introduce the powder later . It may deter her from using the litter box.
do you think an elderly person with arthritis can use this system?
@@marvelinosoriohewlett7207 I do . We have a 16 year old girl and she uses it.
Thanks so much for the vid saved me from a unwanted expensive headache.
Oh man, you just broke my heart. I'd just heard about this and wanted one so badly. But who wants heated up Pooh??
Does it smell when it’s cleaning? 😫 we have one coming and that’s something I’m reading is an issue…

And the plastic reinforces and build up in fat-burgs in the sewer systems!
The manufacturer claims them to be septic tank compatible with them being easily broken down by bacteria.
Which is also how waste water treatment works.
So whatever granules go down the drain won't end up in rivers.
@@emilychb6621 exactly!! ♥️ ♥️
The granules are biodegradable supposedly. Fisherman using plastic baits while fishing is more damaging.
I always feel like these self-cleaning litter boxes wind up being more of a hassle than just using a regular box/clumping litter/scoop.
I agree, I understand if you have several cats but how is any of this simpler or more convenient than just scooping out litter once or twice a day? I’ve seen self cleaning/self scooping boxes cost hundreds of dollars. Why? Of course there are cats that require pristine conditions but again I don’t understand how spending $500 on a litter box is worth it, but that’s just me
Bleep Loughly
Because some of us are impaired by arthritis and can’t bend down to scoop. And arthritic hands can’t hold a scoop. And when you are 73 perhaps you’ll understand.
Linda Terrell obviously I wasn’t referring to people who are physically incapable of doing so.
Bleep Loughly
It wasn’t “obvious”. It was judgemental and dismissive.
Love your website. Very thorough information.
Wonderful you were terrific in explaining every thing. Thank you♥️♥️♥️
I completely appreciate this video this video has saved me lots of money by not buying this device because the cleaning cycle is 17 minutes long along with drying the granules and I have four cats and when I called the company they said you could use up to three cats and what are the other cats going to do during that 17 minutes as you still have to use a litter box

This wouldn’t be for me but I love your reviews on products!!
I just love your cats! They are the best product testers. My kitty hates any change.

Hi there, yes-the Cat Genie only works with the plastic granules that come with the system. You'll fill the bowl with a single box.
It could, definitely.
I love the Liter Lou!
Excellent review. Thankyou. Absolutely LOVED kitty 'sticking it to the man' with protest poop
I’m not sure how well it would work with areas like where I’m from that still have a septic tank but this sounds terrible.
Thanks for saving me the money on this product. 😁
What about the plastic granules that end up in the toilet, surely these flushing through the sewer into the ocean is bad for the environment?
The granules are biodegradable and should be consumed by bacteria in the environment.
just a heads up, on your written pros and cons list, you forgot to mention the really short cord
I'm glad i watched this
The beads are biodegradable.
We had one and the mechanism that was there to break up the solid waste needed to be taken apart and cleaned manually from time to time.
Great review. God bless You!
The granules are biodegradable
If your long-haired kitty has mats, you might appreciate a dematting tool like this one: www.amazon.com/GoPets-Dematting-Sided-Professional-Grooming/dp/B00OIOB90E/
If you want something a little bit brawnier, you might like this clipper and grooming kit: www.amazon.com/Sminiker-Professional-Rechargeable-Cordless-Clippers/dp/B01G30895S/
Hope this helps!
@@AllAboutCatsYT I am so grateful for your reply and suggestions!!! Thank you so much for your very informative videos, they are so helpful!
You are a wonderful narrator
Can you set it to scoop twice before it starts cleaning?
Hi there. No, you can't.
Thanks for making this review. I was seriously thinking about getting this litter box, but the wet paws, the lack of full cleaning and the length of time it is unavailable for use changed my mind about it.
Best review.
Please note, you are NOT supposed to use an extension cord for safety reasons, among other device related reasons!
Note that you can also use a floor drain like a walk in shower if you want a completely automated hands free experience, in which you don’t ever have to flush, but *most* people routinely flush their toilets.
Thank you, Julianne. We did add a note about the extension cord usage in the video description.
Fire! Extension cord must be 15 amp rating the heater/blower pulls as much power as a hair dryer
Thank you.
I do not yet own a CatGenie, but with what and how do you refill?
At this point I can just clean the litter box which takes me 10 - 15 seconds to scoop up the crap and put it in the trash bag, its really not that hard. Humans are just lazy.
Than you for this review. My neighbor gave me one that they found since they don't have a cat, but after watching this, it really doesn't make sense for me to even invest in it.
