Black wire is the dim function of a 12v light. So your b/u lights would be a ton brighter if you used the red wire instead of the black Also, as an alternative to resistors, you can wire in an additional incandescent light on each side. If you don’t want them to be seen from the outside you can even zip tie them up underneath the pickup so they shine at the ground. Gives a neat red glow on the ground under the pickup and it obviously blinks with your blinkers which can look cool at night. You can also tie them up completely so you can’t tell they are there at all. There have been times I’ve left the factory wiring intact so I could just plug in the factory bulb to get sufficient resistance and spliced the led taillights in somewhere upstream a little bit. But in both cases, don’t tie them to any wiring because they both produce a lot of heat and can melt the coating clean off causing a short
Great little series. I recently flipped my ranger and crunched the bed. Im gonna use yours for inspiration and build something very similar with a metal deck and slightly narrower 👍🏼 thanks for the post!
Thanks, let me know how ya makes out! flat bed is holding up well, i bought a f150 long box, but imma start using my ranger as a plow and offroad rig i think.
Thanks, glad you liked it, holding up great. I use the truck as a daily driver. Havent even put carrige bolts in the boards and they have not moved. Lights work great too still and nice and bright
by its some convenient owning a flatbed for the most part, doing dump runs kinda sucks but everything else is way too awesome. www.amazon.ca/Grandview-Resistors-Cancellor-Especially-Switchback/dp/B07S6N2HMT/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=3W22REYL4N80G&keywords=amazon+led+light+resistors&qid=1682978950&sprefix=amazon+led+light+resistors%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&smid=AY0MC7HQ2EF6B&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFVQzAzSkVUS1UyTlkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA1NzAzNjIyU1BaMTU4UUhGNElZJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAwNDA0NzMyUEZFNzYzVjM0U05IJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Good work man! My Uncle and I Just built a wood bed for his Ranger but are having trouble trying to extend the fuel fill out to the edge. What did you use to extend yours out?
nice, and thanks! i havent extended mine yet, just got it stretch out a bit. you can just buy filler hose pretty much anywhere and cut it to the size you need. its a rubber fuel hose. for me i think i will need it about 2-3 inches longer in total. swing by a auto parts store or you can order the hose online
@@muddythumper8152 Yeah I can find filler hose at pretty much any parts house but my issue has been trying to find the correct size for the Ranger it's like 1 1/8in hose. Parts store has 1in and 1.5in. I reckon ill have to find an adapter. Anyway again the bed looks great almost like a factory bed but with character...
i am going to be extending my fuel filler hose the upcoming weekend. I looked into it, easiest thing to do from what i can figure is either go to a industrial rubber hose supplier and get 1 1/4 hose a foot or two. Also just buy a hose Mender ( barbed fitting both sides) that way you can extend the hose to your liking. I'll be doing this, its easy as pie. Took me a while to come up with a good idea but that will work great. i can do a video if you need as well.

That bed looks great!

That’s a kick ass truck man! Thinking about getting a 96 Ranger 2.3L 5speed and doing a flatbed like this.
Thanks! She’s a 03 level 2 with like 500,000 kms on her now. Good machines. I’ll buy another one when this one is no longer fit for the roads
Badass build brother. Been trying to find a small flatbed for my ranger with no luck
Instead of the resistors you could just pull out the blue ford flasher from under the dash and put an EP27 flasher in
good idea there, i never thought about it, just thought about it from an resistance perspective.
That looks great. What do you think the whole ting weighs compared to the stock bed?
I’d say it’s about 200-300 lbs heavier tops , thanks !
This is sick b'y, definitely doing the same to my 2010 fx4. Do you have a link or part number for the signal resistors?

@@ricochetey oh okay something like this may be what you need www.fillernecksupply.com/amp/1-1-2-to-1-1-4-fuel-fill-neck-hose-end-id-reducer-1/
Also check hose and fittings shops such as a hydraulic shop. Often times they have hoses for chemical use and a variety of sizes
