The only thing I don't like about the pocket timer is that it requires the same amount of "table space" as the regular timer to actually use. So, it's portable to carry around, but kinda requires the same space to use it. Especially when on the go, I don't always solve cubes over a table or flat surface. Oh, well. Maybe if my Speedstacks breaks on me. It's always nice to have options.
This timer might fix a major problem of the G4 timers- you might accidentally press the reset or power button when stopping the timer, which has caused a lot of problems in the past, such as at 2017 worlds. The reset and power button on the sides might help avoid that.
I'm sure they could make the large timer more compact or even foldable, I have never taken one apart but I'm guessing it's just a battery pack, a small circuit board and some wires going to the hand pads which could rout through a folding mechanism to possibly make it the same size as the inferred timer, just a thought tho
I think putting the reset button on the bottom is pretty good, because back in worlds 2017, there are a lot of accidental timer resets, so hopefully the new design should reduce accidental timer resets
If they had added the green ready led then you would not have so many unwanted timer starts. And that "one-handed" start of course is because the ir sensor recognizes the strap lying right next to the timer.

this timer has a big error, it can' use normal when the sunlight around is bright . it just can be used when it is in the room and in the artificial light
If anyone hasn't said this yet, the thing with left hand happened due to strap kept nearby IMO. Coz you only pick up one hand during OH and the other is still on timer.

I had a problem with the YJ pocket timer out-of-box. Reset button was stuck in place, and wouldn’t click. If this happens to anyone else, 1) remove the bottom pads & 4 screws to open it up. 2) remove the 4 screws holding down the circuit board 3) remove the circuit board exposing the buttons & plastic button covers. 4) reassemble everything carefully without over-tightening screws. To safely put the board back in, Insert the switch-side first, then carefully pop the opposite side down into position. Besides this little out of box repair, id still give the timer itself 5/5 stars 👍🏼
The reset button in the bottom is an extremely good idea. Less accidental resets

Yeah, it's a great new innovation I think, just see how bad worlds 2017 was, soooo many timer resets, because they didn't cover the reset buttons.

At 7.50, Cameron has the string on the right hand side of the timer which is interfering the Infrared Rays causing the timer to start

Exactly what i thought! Hope the g5 finally fix this problem or we switch to these once we can go back to tournaments
