i BOUGHT THIS AMP FROM SEEING THIS VERY VID SOME 7 YEARS AGO, HAVE GIGGED IT 3-4 TIMES EACH WEEK AND ITS BEEN THE BEST AMP IVE EVER HAD! And ive had em all over the 45 years ive been playing. never ever let me down, portable and sounds MONSTER thru the pa, By the look of the demoers face i think even hes gobsmacked ! Seriously guys this amp is totally awesome and great value for money too
Nice demo, really helped me to push me over the edge towards buying this. As several commentators have noted, both Channel 1 and Channel 2 have some digital modeling done in the pre-amp stage. However, it has both preamp and power amp tubes - it is very much a "tube amp". Channel 1 is a fixed Blackface model with volume only. Channel 2 has the 16 different voicings with an independent volume and gain. The Bass/Treble knobs affect both channels, and effects can be layered over either one.
This is what I did to make it sound like a proper Fender BF. 1: change speaker to alnico Jensen cheap 10". 2 go to fuse software and on "twin reverb mode turn the mud/mid down a touch, switch off bright switch then select the speakers to 2x12C. I was about to exchange mine but now it sounds better than most small portables. Love it now
The second channel is not all digital. It shares the same tube power-amp. This is a tube amp after all. Compared to a Princeton Reverb, it lacks only 2 gain stages in the preamp or 1x12ax7 tube. Which is not very important. Hope this helps. There are a lot of misleading comments.
Yes like yours lol.. it has tubes but they are not used like a tube amp, there is no triode in the amp and everything runs through the dsp and I'm happy to send you the scetmatic but it's a lot to post on hear, but this is not a tube driven amp, basically the tubes add bolume to the amp but not tone
After all it's a modeling amp lol, when was the last time you seen a Princeton ever or deluxe reverb with other amp models into the tubes lol, the circuit would take like a cab the size of a car lol, if you want a tube amp with tube tone and pure tube driven then u take the hit on the things u can do with it, it will get a nice clean and nice valve od that's it, a modseling amp is never a tube driven amp and can not be
so awesome that he's doing it with a squier classic vibe which IMO sound great. Great Demo it was exactly what I needed to want to get this wonderful amp.
It's not a Classic Vibe Strat, it's a Vintage Modified 70s Strat which is in a lower price range, about the same price as a Squier Standard Strat, but yeah, very nice guitar for the money, I used to have one.
Just got this amp(also have that killer yellowish strat) it sounds fantastic. Better than my AC4C1/12. If your thinking of a Blues jr 3, this is far more versatile and less expensive. I got it for $300 bucks at GC guitarathon. The effects are ok, I use pedals instead which being tube, this amp accepts well. Get it, its better in person.
Im exactly the same. I have AC4C1-12, great amp but not Hendrixy enough. I was considering the Blues JR. And also the Bassbreaker 007 but if you're saying this is just as good, and cheaper then all have to try one out. How much louder is it that the Vox?
Just ordered my X2 about an hour ago!! I don't know why I kept putting it off, as I knew I'd end up owning one the first time I heard it. There's not much, if anything, that can really compete with this amp at that price. Depending on what you're wanting out of amp, of course.
It's a hyrbrid amp with some amp modeling. First channel is pure tube, second channel enables modeled amp voicings, the back of the amp has a usb for further tweak ability thanks to Fender's 'Fuse' software.
I recently picked up a blonde X2 and I'm totally impressed with it. I'll admit to not having toyed with the various non-Fender models...it's hard to get me away from the '65 Deluxe and Twin models...but I think that this was easiest amp that I've played to et a full, rich tube sound.
Agree, I have mine on "Twin" setting with some little tweeks on the middle and 2x12C always. Put a new cheapo jensen alnico 10" and it is ace now. Takes a while to wear in new speaker ..
I've got the XD and the 15 watts are fine for practice in a bedroom and more than enough at 10 clean channel but mike it through a PA system and it wails with a sound that will satisfy many styles. I love my XD and have had it for 3 years now.
I bought this amp after watching m-a-n-y videos here.....it's fantastic. You can't touch it for the money. If you buy it, spend the extra $20 for the footswitch.
Got one yesterday and its absolutely fantastic, nothing to do with my solid state Mustang 2. Channel 1 is sweet and takes pedals good. The emulations are great, especially the Bassman and the AC30.
I did some research before i got mine. Dont get me wrong, its not a bad amp (well?). Mine was defective from the start, so i took it to the repair center. They had it for four months. Fender called me and said they had a new one that i could pick up. So i did last weekend. Still havent given it a good workout yet. I did buy the 65 Princeton Reverb RI while this was in the shop and it is very nice sounding (even with the stock tubes). I will play them in stereo through my delay pedal.
Ha, you look like you could be Scott Groves love child, from one of his UK gigs. Meant as a compliment. Anyway you've sold me on the amp, I'm going to get one. Cheers for the demo.
The first channel is not all-tube. It's driven by TL072 op-amps and a DSP module with digital tone controls. Regardless, this is a great amp. I've just ordered mine.
All i want is a great clean pedal platform with classic fender tone. I bought line 6 spider 3 when i was young and dumb. All i can say is controlling effects with your fingers is for chumps.
The Mustang 2 is a solid state amp, while this is all tube. I would suggest this, just because I like tubes over solid state. But solid state does have its advantages - like getting a huge distortion at a bedroom level, and not taking any time to warm up. Still, tubes sound much better. Both are great amps. I've played the mustang, it really blows you away. But I would still like tubes. Just my opinion.
The Champ, however, is only half modeling - there is a separate channel that is classic tube. That would most likely work with pedals real well, however, I've never tested it. I was about to buy it, but then I noticed that it was only a 2 band EQ - to get a sound I like, I need a 3 band EQ. The Mustang also only has a 2 band EQ. I didn't buy that for the same reason. I happen to know that 6L6 tubes generally respond very well to pedals, because of some other amps I've tried in the past.
k... what I can tell you is that the Mustang 2 is a modeling amp, which mean its supposed to sound like other classic amps, such as the Bassman or Deluxe Reverb. Amps like that generally want to run on their own, and usually don't react to pedals well. I'm pretty sure this is the case with the Mustang, because of (long story). I only had a couple days to test it, but in those days, I couldn't find a good sound with pedals. I'll do another comment because UA-cam is holding me back.
He say's 'first time time I've seen this, super excited' then a few seconds later 'I've used this with the line-out at gigs & it sounds great' - *Confused* -
I got it!- Well actually i got both the combo and head / cab versions, why? because i m taking the combo to Greece in my suitcase! for those lil tavena gigs & put thru pa, the head /combo for home use, whats surprising, is the combo seems to have more bottom end than the hd/cab version, strange! but both sound the same and awesome too, this is a great demo showing its true capabilities. Rock n Roll
Very tasty. Like American blues but I believe you make the British sound worth a second consideration style wise.A little lap-top tweaking would be in order though.
If the X2 had an aux input, it would be an easy choice... I may have to lean toward the Mustang II. I would LOVE the Mustang III, but the fact Fender knows about and won't fix the fizzing issues with the III due to the subpar poweramp section... I'll have to settle for the II.
Hey Damon. Loved the review. I have a fender standard telecaster and i mostly play blues and rock (John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd) do you think this amp would be good for me? I now play on a fender bullet 150 which came with my first guitar, a fender squier.
Great review, the tones available are awesome to my lil ears, ive just done a loada gigs with the vibro champ xd, 5watts !!! lol, put it thru the pa and it sure rocked, but im gonna be gettin one of these TODAY and boy am i lookin forward to it, I play half a set acoustic so my acoustic will sound lush with that reverb/chorus and then i'll switch to ch2 for the real boogie tones, cant bloody wait, and i can carry it anywhere with one hand, how dam cool is that? Rock n Roll
So, is this amp really good to rehearse with a band? I mean, if I buy it I´ll use more at home but I´d like to know if its power is enough to rehearse with a band, even if only ocasionally. Thanks.
Hello Damon, I loved the original XD but wanted a 12" driver so the new X2 head and cab looks good, how much gain is on tap with the 90's metal and metal 2000 settings? Will it do Metallica through to Slipknot kind of tones? Not typically Fender styles of music, but it's not a typical Fender amp. I'm waiting for a Modern player Strat in silverburst to come into stock at my local music shop then i'll get both, if it's got enough gain of course....hope you can let me know.
So essentially channel one is just a clean 15 watt all tube amp right? I keep reading comments where people say it's not actually all tube tone even on channel one. (I get that 2 is modeled)
I would like to purchase a modeling amp only if a tele sounds like a tele and a les paul sounds like a les paul versus everything you plug in sounding the same, like the amp. What's up with the Fender Super Champ, do different guitars retain their tonal identity?
I sure envy you blokes (chaps?) over there in the U'd K! You have VALVE amps! I sure wish I could have a valve amp. All we have over in the U'd S'es of A'a are TUBE amps! :-(. Booo! Maybe someday... Cheers! (Pronounced "cheese").
Hey Damon. I love your reviews, and have watched the ones from Nevada UK etc. In a couple of the videos where folks at NAMM talked about this amp, they said that it is using the software from the Mustang for the modeling, and that you can swap around the amp presets in Channel 2. My question is: If it is using Mustang Software, can I put some of the amps that Mustang supports like the Supersonic and the 65 Deluxe Reverb onto the Superchamp X2 channels? If it does, I will order one tomorrow!
I'm in love with this amp! Wow...but before I order are they coming out with a new version of it? Also does the fx software still supported I'm worried I'll buy it and it will be discontinued...is it online based or can I just get a copy of it and always have it?
The fact that this doesn't have an effects loop is a bit of a let down, but it's not traditional of the Champ name to have one, I know. ...Just would be nice to have one.
Hello.I am interested in buying this amp.But do you think is enough for home, band rehearsals and lives small lives or should i get the fender sc112 enclosure cabinet.
@bignickm99 I'm not Damon, but I bought the X2 Stack (not combo). I was actually surprised at how quality the Gain channels are. I'd say that you can easily get Metallica and Slipknot tones. I personally think that the vintage tube tones are the better reason to buy the amp, but you can get some pretty hefty metal tones out of it. I actually especially think that the Marshall tones are really cool on it.
Hey, does this model support the effects pedal (for wah and stuff modeled with the fuse software) as well? The Fender homepage is quite shady in this regard. If not, will it be in future?
I have a question, I have this amp too and a fender telecaster. But the problem with my clean channel is that I just cant find that real fender sound :( I tried a bunch of stuff on the amp, but I think I'll just ask around here: any tips of how to get a nice clean sound? (I like playing ALOT on the neck pickup)
i cannot find a lot of les paul reviews to go with this amp on youtube, how does is respond to a les paul ? what about harder stuff like Slash's material, how would it react to that ?
Please level out your recording sounds...I turn the volume up on my monitor to hear what you say; then get blown out by some stark strumming a second later. Painful. Very painful. aside from the ears being damaged, the playing style examples to demonstrate the amp are good.
I don't know, sounds weird.. Try not only tweaking the settings on the amp, but also on the guitar. Try to roll down the volume and tone knobs a bit on the guitar, might help.
Damon RULES. Who cares 15/20 watts rms? could be 20 watts PMPO? (Peak Music Power Output) Close enough. I got two, a combo 1st & found an open box head for $200. Already had a 10EV Cab. I use the Line Out for Pre Amp to a 130 Watt Tube head & 2×12 Cab if Necessary? Line Out Rules for Direct Recording or to PA. This Amp is AWESOME for me.
If I were to give an opinion, go with the Super Champ x2. Tube is always better. However, @fendergbi is right in saying to check it out at your local dealer. Preferences are everything.
Some of you guys be Hating on such topics. Most of you leaves bad comments about others education and abilities this guy can play and also he’s representing fender products!
i BOUGHT THIS AMP FROM SEEING THIS VERY VID SOME 7 YEARS AGO, HAVE GIGGED IT 3-4 TIMES EACH WEEK AND ITS BEEN THE BEST AMP IVE EVER HAD! And ive had em all over the 45 years ive been playing. never ever let me down, portable and sounds MONSTER thru the pa, By the look of the demoers face i think even hes gobsmacked ! Seriously guys this amp is totally awesome and great value for money too
Just got this amp a week ago and love it. Fender is killing it.
I bought this amp today and with my strat it just oozes fender tone its wonderful best amp I ever purchased!!!
Watched this this morning and have bought one this afternoon. Thanks for the great demo video.
This is one of the best demos of this amp I’ve seen! Glorious ‼️😎🔥🎸
I bought this amp recently and I love it. I play mainly rock/blues and use voicing #14 quite a bit. Can't stop playing it.
Love it now
Everybody: "It's great!"
Fender: "Let's stop making it. Also, develop new software, and don't make the X2 Super Champ backwards compatible."
Thanks for that! Is this amp still one of the best budget amp for nice fender cleans?
Yes like yours lol.. it has tubes but they are not used like a tube amp, there is no triode in the amp and everything runs through the dsp and I'm happy to send you the scetmatic but it's a lot to post on hear, but this is not a tube driven amp, basically the tubes add bolume to the amp but not tone

seems channel 1 is pure tube, and channel 2 is not
@@ejs93033 Exactly. Personally, for the money, I don't think any other amp can touch this thing. That's why I just ordered one a couple of hours ago.
so awesome that he's doing it with a squier classic vibe which IMO sound great.

Kai Paxman it's at least twice as loud as the Vox. putting Eminence legend in the super champ X2 makes it a gig ready amp.
I'm glad I got the head,, sounds like heaven going though my Marshall 4x12 cab
2:34
incredible tone
Just bought a used one a couple of days ago. Love it!!
Just ordered my X2 about an hour ago!! I don't know why I kept putting it off, as I knew I'd end up owning one the first time I heard it. There's not much, if anything, that can really compete with this amp at that price. Depending on what you're wanting out of amp, of course.
One of de best demo of this amp, thanks
Fender - do this exact amp without the fx, but add in an fx loop
I could only like your comment once. Damned... It disserves k's.
fx are fine, but an fx loop mod is a must , well it already has a line out so just add a line in jack for fx loop
Love my super champ... hate that it lacks an effects loop.
Great observation... and while they’re at it, they should include a “master” volume for channel 2.
"No, we're not going to do that."
Whats that like a $200 guitar. sounds fucking amazing. I would never even pick one of these to test it out. Sounds crazy good.
It's a hyrbrid amp with some amp modeling. First channel is pure tube, second channel enables modeled amp voicings, the back of the amp has a usb for further tweak ability thanks to Fender's 'Fuse' software.
Thanks for showing how the clean channel breaks up turned up. That was my number one question.
I recently picked up a blonde X2 and I'm totally impressed with it. I'll admit to not having toyed with the various non-Fender models...it's hard to get me away from the '65 Deluxe and Twin models...but I think that this was easiest amp that I've played to et a full, rich tube sound.

I'm mightily impressed with this little amp.
But what about the guitar? for a cheap Squire it sounds awesome!
As am I. Got one a few days ago and was completely blown away by it. Just damn.
I've got the XD and the 15 watts are fine for practice in a bedroom and more than enough at 10 clean channel but mike it through a PA system and it wails with a sound that will satisfy many styles. I love my XD and have had it for 3 years now.

I have X2. I just got the cleanest awesome tone ever.
sounds fantastic indeed....
I LOVE this amp, crank the vol and gain to 8 and a half and the voicing on number 7 you won't be disappointed. A bit farty but still great
Cool Squiers.
Ha, you look like you could be Scott Groves love child, from one of his UK gigs. Meant as a compliment. Anyway you've sold me on the amp, I'm going to get one. Cheers for the demo.
Really considering ordering one of these. They’re kinda hard to come by though. I plan to sell an old amp and an old guitar just to buy this thing lol
Try a Fender Vintage Modified amp maybe? 🤔
The first channel is not all-tube. It's driven by TL072 op-amps and a DSP module with digital tone controls. Regardless, this is a great amp. I've just ordered mine.
I want to smoke a cig with that man right there playing... He's awesome, should have some great stories...
Damon, you're still my hero!!
One should be able to cover a lot of ground with that amp..especially for a grab n'go amp. Great Demo by this Gent once again.
Brilliant demo good show!
All i want is a great clean pedal platform with classic fender tone. I bought line 6 spider 3 when i was young and dumb. All i can say is controlling effects with your fingers is for chumps.

wow, this vid convinced me to get the modified 70's Strat! I just went and bought one! the amp is wonderful as well;)

Dim knows tone, my droogie.
Lovely, a very useful review. Thanks
i think you should do this demo with that tele. amp sounded better with it. anyway great amp, and thanks to be the first.
This guys a dope. It's 15 watts, not 20, you say it's the first time you've seen ur but you use it at shows
I noticed that too
k... what I can tell you is that the Mustang 2 is a modeling amp, which mean its supposed to sound like other classic amps, such as the Bassman or Deluxe Reverb. Can I delete one of the effects with the fuse software and upload a complete new one?
That Strat sounds AWESOME. I have the SCXD (version 1), cool amp!!
Rock n Roll
Awesome review.
Very tasty. Like American blues but I believe you make the British sound worth a second consideration style wise.A little lap-top tweaking would be in order though.
Is that a Squier?? What model? Holy cow.
If the X2 had an aux input, it would be an easy choice... I may have to lean toward the Mustang II. I would LOVE the Mustang III, but the fact Fender knows about and won't fix the fizzing issues with the III due to the subpar poweramp section... I'll have to settle for the II.
Thanks, my Princeton Reverb is on the way to go with my nice pedal board. The SCXD goes back into the corner for the spiders to live in.
Hi, its actually Not a 20 watt as told to us in the clip, its a 15 watt...
+TheBlues Ine He gets a lot of things wrong, starting with his appearance.
The X2 is a new and improved version to the XD.
So, is this amp really good to rehearse with a band? I mean, if I buy it I´ll use more at home but I´d like to know if its power is enough to rehearse with a band, even if only ocasionally. Thanks.
I got this last week and it smokes the Supro Delta King 12. I wish someone would do a comparison.
He does love a basement..
So, channel one is a straight forward tube clean channel, and channel two is all digital, and a ton of effects. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Fuse software and even the fender fuse forum no longer exists, fender left x2 owners hanging, not cool, but amp as is sounds great
hmm helped a bit, the pickups might be the problem! thanks for helping ;D
So essentially channel one is just a clean 15 watt all tube amp right? I keep reading comments where people say it's not actually all tube tone even on channel one. (I get that 2 is modeled)
Any suggestions on how to get my fender super champ to sound better?
@ZeppelinerAirways Depends on budget, personally I would go for this as it is simaler but with a true valve channel aswell
I would like to purchase a modeling amp only if a tele sounds like a tele and a les paul sounds like a les paul versus everything you plug in sounding the same, like the amp. What's up with the Fender Super Champ, do different guitars retain their tonal identity?
+Bob Elliott They definitely do. These are a real step up from the solid state modelling amps. Best to try one in a shop to see for yourself.

Hello.I am interested in buying this amp.But do you think is enough for home, band rehearsals and lives small lives or should i get the fender sc112 enclosure cabinet.

I don't know, sounds weird.. Try not only tweaking the settings on the amp, but also on the guitar. Try to roll down the volume and tone knobs a bit on the guitar, might help.
Can I connect this directly to a PA system with the line out?
Hey Damon! love your reviews! can you please tell me how you get that roto sound from around 3:15-3:30 ?
Cheers!!
I get a clear''er'' tone by cranking the treble and taking down a bit he bass
How is the usb for recording ? what are you recording it with for this video ?
How does it take a pedalboard
I'd love to hear this amp through a humbucker guitar
Anytime. Let me know which one you choose, though... just curious :)
Also, would this be good for David Gilmour style sounds?
needs more chow bell!
Does it fit for a rehersall with a heavy handed drummer?
this is brand new it's the first time Ive seen it.... I've plugged it in to a pa at shows.... OK? which is it? hahaha
