I am rewatching it to support the channel. Back in 2008 our family finally got cable. My dad who was 86 enjoyed the cable for the last three years of his life. He was so happy and the first thing he watched on cable TV was gladiator.
"Brothers, what we do in life... echoes in eternity." Gladiator is an epic Ancient Roman historic drama masterpiece. It works on so many levels: the acting is phenomenal, the story is compelling, the backdrop of the film is beautiful. It's destined to be a classic, which is a film that can be watched and appreciated with each subseqent viewing. Also, Hans Zimmer does an excellent job in composing beautiful music that captures the tone of the film. The song, "Now We Are Free" by Lisa Gerrard that plays during the film credits is hauntingly beautiful and hypnotic. It's simply one of the greatest film scores ever made and shall be timeless for the rest of time.

In Roman times, the thumbs up and thumbs down gestures were opposite. Thumbs down meant good (or live), and thumbs up meant the bad option (or die). They changed it for the film as not to confuse the audience.
Especially, but not limited to that time period it was normal for royals to have siblings and other close family get together! It was normal for royals to keep the family pure by not mixing the genes with others outside their family. To give you a great example, Cleopatra wanted to be Queen but she couldn't unless she was married. She married the oldest of her 2 brothers. Years later he died so she then married her other brother in order to stay Queen. There are a LOT of other examples of such relationships to this day of Royal couples made up of siblings or cousins or Uncles and nieces! There are also such couples in entertainment. Singer Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old first cousin (daughter of his aunt and uncle) 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
You're maybe the only reactors who didn't ask about Maximus rubbing the dirt on his hands and smelling it before a fight. He's a farmer, so he recognizes good soil. He also does it for grip on his sword. He's very aware of the little things that can get a soldier killed. He says to that Praetorian guard in the beginning " The frost... sometimes it makes the blade stick."
Great reaction to a great movie. I love this movie - and the end always makes me tear up. Maximus has so many excellent lines, but Maximus "introducing" himself to the emperor in the coliseum is at the top.
This is one of my favorite films. This deserved the Academy Awards it won, such as Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, but should have won more like Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Joaquin Phoenix. If you liked the character development in Gladiator, there's another show worth mentioning. It's called I Claudius, and it's an older BBC production of like 9 or 10 episodes. The show was produced on a shoestring budget, but its actors are all first rate. The actor who played the senator in Gladiator plays the lead role of Claudius, and you have actors such as John Hurt and Patrick Stewart with fantastic performances. For me, the standout was Livia, played by Sian Phillips. Her character makes for the most memorable villain in anything I've watched. Get through the first episode, which is mostly establishing the backdrop, and you may have a series that'll stick with you for the rest of your life.

Poor Richard Harris and Alec Guiness. They have so many iconic roles and great performances and it all boils down to Dumbledore and Obi Wan. Fun fact: Richard Harris was an exceptional tennis player. There is a statue I believe in his hometown of him playing.
Great reaction to great film I wasn't surprised you got emotional over this film, the insest relationship was wide spread in Rome during the period, this was Oliver Read's last film he played the older free Gladiator he was a big drinker and hell raiser more famous for it than his acting sadly.
Oliver Reed/Proximo died during filming. He got into a drinking competition at a bar in Malta. He ended up dying from a heart attack back in his hotel room. They had to finish his parts with a body double and digitizing his face on the actor.
😠Dam you Paramount for making these two sweet ladies have to sit through the movie again. Experiencing all of that beautiful, brilliant and well acted story all over again! Making them cry like that again was just mean! Wait, what? Oh re-edit and repost the original react video not do a new react to the film. Yes, girls. I think about the Roman Empire about 5 times a day. It has to do with my creativity. I write stories, and the power of the Romans is the ultimate industry. Plus, the appeal is legendary. It also bout the very masculine way of life that still lives in the male DNA. This is also true of westerns. The rugged outdoors where the rules are clear. And the punishment met the crime. Gangster movies are a measure that still has some weight. As do superheroes. And the policeman is the modern version of all of it. They reflect a world and imagination that men can identify with. And these times when the rules are muddled and the gray line makes a mockery of everything, it's a reminder of times when things weren't soft and fuzzy. Russell Crowe is also good in THE QUICK AND THE DEAD. A western starring and produced by Sharon Stone. With a few people you should recognize in the cast. Including a very young Leonardo DiCaprio. Keep going and enjoy the movies.
Just an idea: You should go back, year by year, and watch every Best Picture Oscar winner, maybe? There's some turds in there. Crash sucks all the balls, whichever year that was.
