Ken conquered Barbieland by simply walking up to the average Barbie and be like: "Hey wanna not have responsibility anymore" and they literally all agreed instantly

This is literally the first video I even saw reviewing it. My brother was really excited for it and I saw a lot of people looking forward to it a little while back.

if I had a nickel for every time Ryan Gosling starred in a movie where he was a second class citizen manufactured by a tyrannical corporation in a dystopian society, joins a resistance movement after experiencing the magnitude of freedom he has been denied, all while a woman works relentlessly to keep them oppressed, I would have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
@@yesyouareright9800 huh? im a conservative, but i had no issues with Barbie. are you one of those people that think someone is conservative if they dont share your views?
Shoe really nailed it with men being starved for compliments. I had a women ask if I "trimmed my own beard because it looks like it was done professionally" while I was renewing my license a while ago. I've literally thought of it every day... pathetic.
@Harry-fk5of Damn right Harry. I'm gunna start by congratulating you on that great insight. Only a fella with a very shiny and symmetrical penis could make such an insightful comment. Kudos!
No, pathetic is the fact that women see us either as the only ones who give out compliments or as a piece of meat who will be complimented only when they fancy us. You're not pathetic, you're normal. We all are worth more than the world tries to make us believe.
I doubt he'll win, considering he's up against Robert De Niro and RDJ. But the fact that Ken got nominated while Barbie did not is still delicious irony.
Ryan Gosling 100% deserved the win! He's the best thing in that movie 🩷🩷🩷 I really felt for Ken in this movie. And he's Ryan Gosling!!! Barbie dumped him! Her loss!
I had a girl tell me my voice was mesmerizingly nice to listen to when i did a speech in high school in front of the class. She said it in front of everyone in the class and i realized everyone were carefully listening to my words. Catherine wherever you are, thanks for that. It was 17 years ago and i'll never forget. It played a big part in my charismatic nature that i still hold on to this day.
Funny, I have a similar memory. I'm French, and I generally unconsciously lower my voice when I speak English. A girl in my business school noticed it during a presentation, and during the feedback from the class she spoke of my "very sensual voice". Given the reaction of the class about this comment and her reaction right after, I don't think she was actually into me, but I didn't know where to put myself nonetheless. It was 15 years ago. I don't think I will ever forget it.
I saw the barbenheimer double feature with my girlfriend opening day. During Oppenheimer I whispered to her several times “I must learn how to ride a horse” and 4 hours later saw Barbie.

@7:15 - nailed it. I remember like it was yesterday, in 1983 a female teacher told me I had a nice smile. Got ridiculed mercilessly by everyone but it was nice to hear that and it stuck with me ever since. Thanks, Mrs. Berry.
Around the time I was 11, 2 girls came up to me in school and told me that some girlfriend of theirs likes me. I still don't know if it was true or not, but back then I was convinced someone was taking a piss out of me.
The best joke of the entire movie was that Ken lost interest in Patriarchy when he learned it was about more than horses. The riding on the horse head on a stick cracked me up also. Reminded me of monty python and the search for the holly grail.
When Barbie complained about not being a fascist, she said that she doesn’t control the trains or the flow of commerce. But in Barbieland, the Barbies do control the trains and the flow of commerce. So did Barbie think that Barbieland was a fascist state?
Technically, she is a doll...She is a toy..Hasbro and what sells seems to be what controls her world in setting. She is like the queen of the brits..It really means nothing.

@@nobodythenobody9779 I personally went to watch the movie for the Barbenheimmer meme and couldn't care less about the politics of it. I think the point of that argument is that you really shouldn't be going for a Mattel movie about Barbie and expecting anything too deep, even if it tries to be actually be it.
Literally all Ken wanted was for Barbie to be nice to him and notice him but he didn't even get that at the end. He wasn't even really interested in power, he just thought he could use it to get some respect and kindness from those who ignored him or put him down all the time
its a metaphor smart one. the kens represent women in the real world and how men hold the power and we are expected to just sit there and look good for them and our every action is for them (e.g, 'She knows exactly what she's doing by wearing that, she wants attention, etc)
It’s a crappy metaphor, smart one. Due to women biologically programmed to find men of power attractive. Whereas men don’t care if women are in power. In Kens world, though the kens were in power, they each were in monogamous relationships with their Barbie. In Barbie world, there are no relationships between Barbie and kens.
I mean he DID get that in the end. She was nice to him, at the very end, when she apologized, she just didn't want to be with him. There's a difference.
I loved one particular scene and it feels underrated. While 2 armies of ken are fighting, and barbies are getting their Constitution - there is a 3rd group. Men in suits, walking through this chaos, watching it... And making money on it, no matter who prevails. Genious.
That was a good concept, but it added to an already busy scenario. As someone mentioned in a review "too much going on". Also, Barbies failed to make Kens hate each other.
Much harder to win a leading actor role in fairness. Especially when ur in a Barbie movie. There was nothing for her to act. Compare that to Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer and she never rly had a chance.
I will always remember the woman who told me, "I'd be a cigarette for those lips." Weird thing to say? Absolutely. Extremely effective and memorable compliment? Damn straight.

Honestly Ken's story line was probably one of the best portrayals of your average dude who simply wants a purpose, to be seen by someone he cares about. But to be denied and told you must find your own way, by yourself. But yeah Barbie's ending was kinda weird
"Be denied" is her telling him don't base your happiness on just having a girlfriend aka her. Your worth as person is not about other people. It's a good message.

I remember a girl in high school telling me I had pretty eyes. I've had compliments since then, from various relationships I've been in, friends, etc. But that was the first and I think last time a girl randomly just complemented me without any real reason too if that makes sense.
Happened to me sophomore year of high school in 2011 while I was waiting in line for a roller coaster. Never saw that girl again but I still think about her and what could have been.
A woman once complimented my shoes. They were crocs....when crocs were a bad thing...I still think she was being ironic. But it's probably the only "compliment" I've gotten from a woman that I wasn't in a relationship with or blood related too. So, yeah...I think I'm going to go take a bath and cry for a bit.
As a mother of two boys, and someone who absolutely adored Barbie, I had mixed feelings about seeing this movie. So I waited to watch it at home today. Glad I waited. This movie broke my heart for today's males. You really have to be a man hater to root for the Barbies in this movie. Barbie admits she has no idea where the Kens even live, and she doesn't seem to care either. The Kens constantly work so hard to impress and earn the Barbies' attention and appreciation, and the Barbies don't care. During Barbie's dance party, all the females get amazing outfits, and all the Kens have to wear the same comparatively plain jumpsuit. The Barbies want "girls' night" every night. They don't allow the Kens any voice in Barbieland, and even during the "happy ending" the Barbies still won't allow the Kens to have equal rights and political positions within Barbieland. The Kens are oppressed so much in Barbieland that they lose their minds when they learn that in the real world men have a say in the world around them and are respected. Even when the Kens temporarily take over, their favorite thing to do is help the Barbies learn new things (which obviously is supposed to come across as mansplaining, but only seems like an effort to be helpful and nice). The Kens' major weakness is literally a female in distress and in need of help. Barbieland is the feminist fantasy world, and it is every bit as horrible as when men ran everything and women had no say in the real world. And that BS quote about how mothers stand still so their daughters can look back and see how far they've come? As a mother, I HATE THIS QUOTE WITH A PASSION. Why should I have to stand still just because I've had kids? I started a small business after having two kids, and I still managed to both raise them well AND build that business into a 6 figure income producing asset that I can pass on to my kids someday. Horrible movie on so many fronts.
Why should a girls play time and imagination centre your sons? Do you make sure each time one of your sons play that he makes sure his girl toys get equal attention?
@@ic1400 that's what's the film is about. Ken isn't a real person, he's a toy aimed at girls. It's clearly shown in the film that ken taking over Barbie land is the outcome of real life girls losing confidence in themselves
The final quote is not so much about standing still yourself, but "being still" in the impulse to protect and shelter your children. It says that a good parent will let their offspring become their own person, will let them make mistakes and learn and grow, so that the child can one day look back and see how far they've come on their own. That is how I would understand it.
Felt like a brainstorming turned into a movie, with a "Ok we want to be feminist but we want to do subtle feminism criticism, and we wanna be sympathetic towards the male but we also want to be asshole to him, and we want him to be an abusive boyfriend but we also want him to be likeable, and we want to say corporations are bad and don't care about you but we'll say they care too", it was weird.
Agreed. Whole thing felt half-baked. Remove the weird overt "girl power" message and it's a story about coming of age and coming to terms with the world not being a perfect child-like fantasy with the subplot of building yourself a strong support network and not dedicating your life to the pursuit of someone so obviously toxic to you
Literally no one was an asshole to Ken. 😂 The Barbies mostly ignored them. And that speaks volumes about male fragility. Not having women pay attention to males is akin to the fucking Holocaust.
I remember when I worked at a supermarket I complimented a guy and mentioned how he reminded me of Ragnar Lothbruk from Vikings and he seemed thankful and a bit blushy. Everytime he came in after that day I noticed his beard became more “Viking-y” and it was nice to see that he felt flattered enough to commit to the look.
I honestly kept waiting for the "we should just have empathy for each other regardless of if we're Barbie or Ken" that it felt like it was leading up to, but it never got there
@@deViant14 I completely understand that metaphor and I honestly kinda like it… but that’s not the way the public is taking it. If you’re trying to spread a positive message, you don’t do that by burying it under metaphors that require deep thought to understand.

😅 Great memory, and fun compliment. Her compliment in that state was actually pretty authentic, she saw how pretty your soul was. Taking care of a drunk girl at a party is pretty amazing. Definitely savor that compliment
My takeaway from the movie was that pitting genders against each other just leads to people getting hurt. We should all learn to be nice to each other as we are all unique individuals and not let things like patriarchy lead us to hurting each other. We are all Kenough.
When we were leaving the cinema with my friends after the film one of them told me: "It is a much better movie if you look at it as if the Kens are actually the protagonists and the whole thing is a tragedy instead of a comedy"
Most male positive movie I’ve seen. It proves to me that I don’t need a lady in my life to be happy and fulfilled, all I need are my best bros. If we support and lift each other up, express our emotions without fear of rejection from one another, we can do anything. There’s no need for women in that dynamic, they instead become a bonus to our lives if we so choose, rather than a believed necessity. When we love and support each other, we are kenough.

My favourite line in the movie was by Ruth Handler (or her double). She said “The Patriarchy? Barbie? None of it is real” when telling the OG barbie to be whoever she wants to be. Kind of like a pave your own path and not be tied down by things beyond your control. And personally I think it’s a great message for everyone watching.
That was an actress (I forget her name; but the real Ruth Handler died in 2002); that one line basically said "Ayo, this '3rd wave' shit is wack, dog. Just be yourself, lol"
The bit about compliment from random stranger is just spot on. an elderly once complimented my hand-me-down suit from me old pop and said "you look sharp with that suit". That suit is officially an heirloom now.
Just got to watch this video after seeing the movie itself. First off, nice hair, Shoe! Looks really pretty. Secondly, I more felt like this movie was satire, for me the message was "Everyone should be treated well, or else conflict will prevail in the society"
And here's the valuable lesson: A movie can try to send a message, but it can almost always be over analyzed to make the message what you want it to be.
A good thermonuclear eye of the beholder is always nice. That and avoiding the promotional material is how I accidentally turned Captain Marvel into a good movie as well.
I want Mattel to make "Eat, Pray, Love" merchandise along the lines of "Ken, Beach, Horse", to spread the Kenpowerment this movie inspires. Keeping it relevant so they can make a sequel: "Barbie 2: We Ken be Better", which focuses on Ken's story of self discovery, healing and growth.
12:35 actually Shoe, there is a very clear villain and tension in the movie, the villain is Margot Barbie and the tension is her plot to enslave the Ken's and reinstitute misandry.
Just wanna say that Shoe's right, the last time a stranger complimented me was an older lady at the grocery store I work at about a week or so ago. She said I had pretty eyes after she mistook me for a girl. I enjoyed that interaction, especially because it came from an argument she was having with a cashier I didn't like.
The last time someone complimented me was when I made a homemade pizza for a house party and one of my friends dropped a slice on the ground but still picked it up and ate it anyway, even though everyone insisted not to do it, which I took as a compliment on the quality of the pizza.
As a woman, I actually related more with Ken. His journey of self discovery, his real personality was just really fun. And i saw a guy on the internet who actually had a realisation that he is enough while watching the movie!
-the real world men were cartoonishly evil -every time the word men came up it was followed by them saying how terrible they are -the diminished all of mens problems to "just open up more bro" -they had 5 minute rant blaming all of womens problems on men "but its a funny movie about a doll its not anti men"
I seriously thought it was doing an "patriarchy" invers, where basicly a matiarchy is prety much the same. People are people, no matter who is in power, they will be shit to each other. Fall off at the end tho, specialy when the Lent paradise never show any flaws or power hungry abusers. So dont know if it was satirical, or write as a stright arrow. :/

As a man, can confirm. My last compliment was these two ladies up at the bar trying to pay while I was ordering. They said my longer hair was nice and that I should keep it. They may have been absolutely hammered, but I still took that compliment into my heart and think about it frequently
Mine was a couple of months ago at work and I was told my new hair cut looked good. But im still unsure whether it was a real compliment or just a polite way of saying they noticed that I'd gotten the haircut.
I got a compliment for my shirt from the woman behind the counter at a Greek food place near where I live. The shirt had the flash logo on it, but the logo had Pikachu's tail instead of the lightning bolt. I will likely never forget her proclaiming "Those are, like, two of my favorite things combined, you just made my day,"
Okay I don’t agree with everything you said but your outfits are amazing and the comments aren’t complementing them enough. Very clever and stylish ahahah
I'm still confused by the notion that if a woman is smart, they can't be pretty or dress a certain way. I literally follow a woman on tik tok who calls herself the cosplaying Paleontologist. She talks about dinosaurs while wearing cosplay.
@@roxassora2706 There are also a lot of movies that show how smart hot people can be, while having defining character traits that go beyond "smart" and "hot." Legally Blonde and Erin Brockovich are some of my favourites and both are very much Barbie-coded. Both main characters are downplayed and perceived as idiots because they're conventionally attractive, which proves to be irrelevant the moment they show their skillset.
It's based on the trope where a person can't excel physically and mentally at the same time. A person who is good in academics isn't going to focus on appearance so they won't be as strong or physically attractive. A person who is physically strong or attractive isn't going to be very smart since they don't study as often.
I think the real problem in modern America is just the opposite. Too many people, especially women, think that being hot is all the personal or character growth they'll ever need. "I need to be able to tie my own shows and hold a conversation? But I'm HOT!?"

Men have done things just as creepy things on the regular and I’ve been expected to stay respectful and not make a scene. I’ve had policemen invalidate sexual assaults I’ve reported and I have a lot of evidence to prove that it happened. So don’t try to act like men can easily get arrested for being inappropriate with women, it’s near impossible to successfully report an assault as a woman. No one believes us and men being gross is often passed off as just “locker room talk”. Moral of the story is that it sucks to be a man and it sucks to be a woman, we certainly don’t have it easier.
If a man would tell anyone that he get assaulted by a woman in any way, they would just tell him“just be a man“. That‘s also the cause why so many man feel lonely and misunderstood.

Well... there's only two writers, and they're two of the smartest filmmakers in Hollywood, and they also happen to be married, so.... That's Greta Gerwig (also the director of the film) and Noah Baumbach, btw.
I was halfway across the US looking at some home made metal art some lady was selling. Said lady walked up and began chatting. Good conversation ensues and as my gf and I begin to leave she stops us and says to me “you have a wonderful smile, so genuine and welcoming” I almost started crying right there.
I'm a guy. I loved dinos, action figures, cars, all the typical boy stuff. However, I remember my cousin got a Barbie clothes making kit for Christmas. She never used it. So I turned her barbies into Mortal Kombat characters. One was Sonya Blade the other was Kitana. I wish they had made clothes and weapons/gear making sets for action figures and GI Joes. That would be rad.
I really took the main theme to be something like "don't pit men and women against each other." Barbieland run by Barbies isn't actually great and neither is Kendom (is that what they called it? don't recall) run by Kens. Barbies and Kens stand in for men and women. They are just people but have different struggles (Barbie feels like she has to be perfect, Ken feels neglected). They have to learn a balance. Then there's the real life side plot which comes from a female point of view but it really applies to how life in general is messy for everyone. I think there was a little bit about role models that could have been expanded on too. The daughter rejected Barbie because it was the popular thing to do and she was miserable but she cheered up after she embraced Barbie. Ken had no male role models and got confused ideas in his head about what it meant to be a man.
Exactly. Yay another objective analysis. Just for my POV, I basically saw this movie being for anybody. And that both of the extremes of patriarchy and matriarchy just isn't it, and they do need to find a balance
Shame they had to ruin that message with a cheap "haha see this is how women have it tsk tsk maybe eventually you'll reach it" in a movie that ignores the other sides problems entirely
The first compliment from a woman that really rocked my world occurred when I was nineteen and working in another city. I was talking on the phone with a good (female) friend of mine as she was telling me about a serious problem she was having. Being a guy, I--of course--offered advice on some things I thought that she might be able to do to deal with it. The compliment? She asked me to hold up a minute because she couldn't write that fast. That's right; SHE THOUGHT THAT WHAT I HAD TO SAY WAS IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO WRITE DOWN. I can still remember how surreal that was to me; *NOBODY* in the almost-twenty years previously had considered what I had to say to be important. At. All. (We both knew we were too dysfunctional to be able to handle the responsibility of a relationship, or I would have asked for her hand on the spot.) :happysigh:
@@深夜-l9f "that's so messed up. can't even imagine. hope you find happiness" Thank for your kind thoughts. I did, eventually. My (current) wife honours and respects me, wanting me to share what I've learned in my life, seeking my help to understand her own as we both move forward in becoming healthier people. It's heaven.
Beautiful yet sad I'd have forgotten what I was saying, shocked at the compliment/realisation it was a compliment Yet again, actions speak louder than you. "You're really smart" is also a compliment... but "Hold up, I'm writing this down"?!?! BEYOND!!!
Yes, this was a deep moment in the movie... I also feel zero respect from woman, except when they need something. Till I am doing that for them, I get empty talk like how important is this to them, but after that they revert back of looking through me like a piece of glass. Well the sad part is, that from their perspective, this is logical. They will always have some men to do what they can not do, and they can also ignore us most of the time. The respect lasts only till the favour is done. So the Kens in this movie are pretty much how more and more man are starting to feel in their real lives. There seems to be only 2 ways to choose from, you are either trying to be a good guy, resulting you being worthless and disrespected, or you are dominant, and aggressive, then you will have a bit more respect and you'll get some stuff, but you are an asshole. Somehow, the third option, where you are respected for the good person you are, is dying out of society. And this is where this movie is spot on, even if I am sure it is unintentional. Not in the Barbie world, and not in real life were man simply respected and being equal.
The best way for this movie to go would have been to have the Barbies and Kens understand by the end of the movie that neither society was better off dominated by one gender over the other, and the best possible outcome was one where both sexes are respected and represented for each other's strengths and talents. They literally had it right there, but completely fumbled the ball at the end where everything went back to the way it was and the story was ultimately pointless.
I kind of agree. I was disappointed at the end when the Kens were like "can we have some Kens in congress?" And President Barbie declined and said they should take up lower ranking positions, then work their way up. I get it's a metaphor for what women have had to do/are still doing, but Barbie World isn't the real world. I wish they took that opportunity to be better than the real world.
THAT IS LITERALLY HOW IT ENDS. Watch it again, it comes up, "so everything will go back to how it was?" "no, we don't want it to go to how it was." The Barbies and the Kens are excited to start A NEW LIFE - and "stereotypical Barbie" leaves barbieland because she's learned her role as the stereotype is no longer inspiring.
@@patrickparadis8623 Yeah I completely agree, I don't understand how so many people missed the point here. Maybe the joke about having as much power as women in real life threw people off, but the movie was ultimately egalitarian and had a lot more nuance than people are giving it credit for.
@@ascher3558 I mean it's essentially a nod to their notion of human nature which i guess is that no matter what gender is in power they will abuse that power for the sake of the power inbalance to remain. I don't know if that's true though, theres not a lot of historical context that I know of that would suggest women would subjugate men if the roles were reversed.

She has some ok points. Would have liked to have seen more analysis on the philosophical aspects of the movie: the cognitive dissonance speech and whatever Barbara says in the elevator. The clothes changes are smart. Could do without the juvenile hot-takes, very obviously geared toward vamping up the comment section. Also really appreciate the non-bias commentary on both sides. I watched it to the end which means she knows what she’s doing.

I think the Barbie movie is one of the greatest movies ever. I feel like the perception you have of the movie is a reflection of your character. It's only "woke" if that's how you perceive it to be and its only "anti-woke" if that's what you, personally perceived.
"There's always that one compliment that sticks out in your mind." When I was in my 20s I worked in a bowling alley. It was a weekday afternoon so the only thing going on was a kids birthday party. Things were slow and I was checking in on the party "can I get you anything, etc?" My boss came up to me (he was one of THOSE types) and just started laying into me about something, yelling, cursing me out, vein on his forehead pulsing, etc. All in front of these little kids. Afterwards one of the moms said "You did such a great job taking care of the party. Your boss is horrible, no employee ever deserves to be treated like that, we'll never come here again. I don't know what he pays you but it's not enough." And she hands me $100. I almost cried. This happened 20 years ago and I still think about it occasionally. I doubt I'll ever forget it.
These are the people that come up in my mind when I think why society hasn't collapsed into itself because of all the hatred and negativity around the world. Also, happy 20th birthday, even if it already passed!
Funny thing is… that is not really a compliment, she was just showing gratitude for serving the party and pity for how your boss acted towards you. Had she said that you were the best server she’d ever seen then that might qualify as a compliment.
@IN___SITE I suppose you're right. Crazy how "Thanks for doing your job, sorry your boss is an asshole" is something you remember almost 20 years later because it made you feel better that one time.

The thing about men remembering compliments because of how seldom they receive them is so true. I'm an average looking guy, but I do not receive compliments about my appearance. One that does stick out to me was about 2 years ago. A female coworker who i befriended randomly said i have pretty eyes. I'm actually self conscious about my eyes because I'm legally blind in one of them. Ngl i was riding high from that compliment for days.
That is frankly also how compliments should be used. Sparringly. Notice most women, they barely care that they get compliments (seen a few that get annoyed if they don't get one)
@@SioxerNikita Honestly I agree. Compliments are better in small doses because they'll have more of impact when you receive them. But if you get them all the time you'll either be annoyed by them or just think they're shallow.
Is this an American thing? Here in Europe, I'd say women get more compliments, at least with looks.
@@emmastrange5557bro what? 🤣
That is how I would understand it.
you are a latelesbianbloomre hypocrite wat you did and said about your husband guess what one day a girl will do that to him your son.
A wonderful depiction of doublethink put into practice.
Agreed. Whole thing felt half-baked.
Remove the weird overt "girl power" message and it's a story about coming of age and coming to terms with the world not being a perfect child-like fantasy with the subplot of building yourself a strong support network and not dedicating your life to the pursuit of someone so obviously toxic to you
Also we want a catchy musical number but not a cliched one
Literally no one was an asshole to Ken. 😂 The Barbies mostly ignored them.
And that speaks volumes about male fragility. Not having women pay attention to males is akin to the fucking Holocaust.
The entire movie is a giant paradox
I remember when I worked at a supermarket I complimented a guy and mentioned how he reminded me of Ragnar Lothbruk from Vikings and he seemed thankful and a bit blushy. Everytime he came in after that day I noticed his beard became more “Viking-y” and it was nice to see that he felt flattered enough to commit to the look.
He's gonna remember that for the rest of his life

I'm still confused by the notion that if a woman is smart, they can't be pretty or dress a certain way. I literally follow a woman on tik tok who calls herself the cosplaying Paleontologist. She talks about dinosaurs while wearing cosplay.
Which is what Barbie is also a criticism of. She's a literal middle finger to those who think that women can't be smart and hot
@@roxassora2706 There are also a lot of movies that show how smart hot people can be, while having defining character traits that go beyond "smart" and "hot."
Legally Blonde and Erin Brockovich are some of my favourites and both are very much Barbie-coded.
Must have missed Legally Blonde...

News alert Ryan Gosling got an award for playing Ken
Exactly how I saw the movie. Well said.

Shame they had to ruin that message with a cheap "haha see this is how women have it tsk tsk maybe eventually you'll reach it"
in a movie that ignores the other sides problems entirely

Beautiful yet sad
I'd have forgotten what I was saying, shocked at the compliment/realisation it was a compliment
Yet again, actions speak louder than you.
"You're really smart" is also a compliment... but "Hold up, I'm writing this down"?!?! BEYOND!!!
Well sir I'm gonna write that down to start writing down what people say to me so I wouldn't forget!!! Thanks, this will make people feel special!
Like a Marvel movie, they have to put the toys back in the box for a future Mattel Cinematic Universe.

I loved the Barbie movie, I interpreted it as a criticism of polarisation, how despite everyone's differences we all have troubles, the way to get around this is working together and not polarisation.
My favorite take about the Barbie movie is that it's a satire of gender politics. Dunno how accurate an interpretation that is, but I like it.
Would definitely agree with that tbh.
That's cos that's literally what it is... Greta Gerwig's previous movies are very much also about this sort of issue.
I loved Mattel's role as the corporate villain and I wish they had gotten more airtime.
It is
Maybe disguised as satire.
7:22 a girl (non familial) called me handsome, I awkwardly said "okay have a good one" & for the rest of my shift I was so confused as to why she would say that💀
The existence of a trans Barbie implies a means of upward mobility by transitioning from Ken to Barbie (KtB trans)
Like with IRL trans women who instantly do better in every athletics event with other biological women, and get hired at a statistically higher rate as a protected class?
There was no trans Barbie, the only reason there was a trans Barbie because the person was trans, not that that the Barbie was trans
If you know what I mean, if not than understandable
Just by their shear nature there can be no "trans" Barbie being in Barbie world as they're ALL degendered when you peel 'em down
@@lollove9974 That doesn't even make any sense.
As a kid Shoe didn't play with Barbies. You could say... she wasn't like OTHER girls.
Too young. She played with My Little Pony.

I think the arguments about this movie are probably more entertaining than the movie itself.
It's honestly a really fun and entertaining movie
@@BunchaNothin Would you describe it as satire?
I know, they're all making me want to watch it for myself when I would've had zero desire otherwise
@@ThinWhiteAxe it's kinda like a morbid curiousity. Where everyone's saying all this stuff about it, then when you watch, you ask "that's it?"
@@CustodianVirgil thats exactly how i felt about the sound of freedom. it wasnt anywhere near this qanon conspiracy that some groups made it out to be, but it also wasnt this life changing masterpiece taht other groups said it was. i'm anticipating barbie will be the same.

That male complement thing hits home, I remember 3 years ago a random guy in a homedepot said he liked my haircut and said it had style. Caught me way off guard. Remember it all the time, so sad.
I remember when I was 15 a girl said I had a hot voice. It is to this day the only genuine compliment ive been given from someone who isnt a family member. I think even in the most severe case of Alzheimer's id struggle to forget that moment
Compliments from the same gender always stick out to me
I had something like this happen to me a few years ago. Still think about it when I'm feeling down
Same, had a girl say I looked good in sweatshirts 5 years ago. I wear them whenever I can.
God loves you unconditionally. You can read the New Testament to understand and learn more. I know God is real because before i almost ended things i asked God to help me if God was real. I ended up refraining from ending things and instead I fully committed to try and see if God was real and after 3 days of fasting, prayer, and reading the New Testament i was completely healed. My terrible addictions were taken away, my bad habits were gone, and my self hatred wasn't there anymore. I felt at peace for once. I hope you let God help you like how God did for me. God bless you. Have a nice day friend
That girl they made to not wear a dress cuz she’s a scientist really struck me. I once watched a documentary about naval aviators and one of the pilots interviewed was a female navy pilot who flew the F/A-18 Hornet, one of the most feared and capable strike craft in history. This same woman said when she gets home she fully embraced her feminine side and put in a dress/skirt. The same woman who wears pilot gear, navy camo, and G-suits can also wear a dress or feminine clothing why are we gatekeeping drip. It doesn’t matter what job you have the right to drip is universal.
Exactly. These clues are properly explaining how dumb this movie was in reality.
Her obsession with desk lamps as a child started with that lamp from the Pixar movies
@@dusk2308most cursed comment I have seen in a while.
@dusk2308 wtaf lol
Once, in 2002, in a bookshop in London, someone said I have nice hands. Yes, I still remember it.
Ken lead a revolution against his facist overlords. He is the real hero in this film
But myself and other men get complimented on our clothing, like if we wear an interesting shirt or whenever we get a haircut or non-appearance things like our intelligence, education, creativity. Do you guys seriously never complimented!?
How sad.
damn dude, you lucky af. I'm 23 and still can't remember a single compliment I got in the past two decades. Here's hoping.
15 years ago, a girl told me that I look good in black coloured shirts. That's the reason I own so many black shirts
A guy once told me he liked my shirt. Idk if he was gay or not, but I guess it doesn’t matter. I wore that shirt until it started to fall apart.
One female employee at a clothing shop told me years ago that I looked good with skinny fit pants. I only buy those nowadays
Everyone looks good in black. That's why every woman has a little black dress.
@@gregorybaxter9601 disagree. I look like I have dandruff and have been rolling around in cat hair.
Also, a lot of guys who think they look good in black are obviously just hiding their gut.
Shoe, your hair and wardrobe changes throughout this video were incredible and well done. A very nice touch, given Barbie is the subject here.
The ongoing Ken thinks horses represent masculine power joke had me dying laughing through the second half.
yeah its just brilliant
They're big and strong. They work themselves to death literally, go to war and can't complain or voice emotions. When they fail to serve they become dog food. Unfortunately that's exactly how too many view masculinity.

@@HonkHonkler My man, it's 2023 and you still have a Pepe clown propic.
I'll take my chance with people that like this film, yours is the redflag lmao
But don't they?
It was literally the most accidentally reactionary thing I've ever seen. It was like Gerwig and Baumbach realized they had accidentally written something based, but were too lazy to go back and change, so they just add on something later halfassedly to tried to defang the based point they just accidentally made.
Nah, it self contradicting nature was on purpose to make fun of feminist double speak.
It reminds me of the movie version of Starship Troopers. They wanted something to push their message but were to ham handed and ended up showing a lot of the opposite.
@@runedoom If you watched her versions of little women, I doubt that was the intent.
@@SunwardRanger83 Funny enough, Starship Troopers was the first thing that came to my mind also and for the exact same reason. I don't think the producers and director knew what they were making lol.
It's not accidentall
I saw a woman on twitter with something about wishing the worst upon men saying she "hated the movie but will pretend to like it to piss off men", and then I thought about how much I enjoyed it (as well as every guy I know who watched it), and I realized the horseshoe theory applies: ben shapiro burning dolls calling it too woke on the left, anyone who enjoyed it in the middle, and misandrist women who feel like they have to pretend to like it because it didn't shit on men enough on the right.
This says a lot about society
We legit just need to take the personal accountability from the right, the love and care for human rights of everyone from the left and leave the racists and the female supremacists behind...

I liked that the film opening shows how Barbie got girls to imagine themselves as more than mothers, and then Barbie decides to be human because of a series of "memories" in the form of home reels about mothers and daughters thus elevating the thing Barbie destroyed. Yeah, to say the messaging was confusing and muddled is an understatement, but we all still had fun.
its a mix, and thats the art of it
That bothered me too but there was more to it than that that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Thorias reviewed it & it was like he read my mind. I recommend watching his analysis it's spot on.
I think we came to a point where there is no message, no thought, no hope. Just money. (In general)
@@Fishnberg I think they wanted to make a message but couldn't
Great art is ambiguous. If the message is crystal clear, it has no more thematic depth than propaganda. But maybe I'm reading too much into it.
The amount of feminists I've seen on Tiktok who went to see the movie expecting it to be a radfem/antiman movie and left so angry because they felt like the movie focused more on Ken and seemed proman is HILARIOUS
do you have links to some of those Tik Toks? I'd like to see.
It’s like the movie tried it’s best to be woke, but wasn’t. Only way you could hate Ken is if you hated all men in general
barbies arc was not very well fleshed out but I think the middle part between her being like a child in barbie land and choosing reality was that scene where shes sitting across the old lady and tells her shes beautiful, I think that was yearning for something she'd never experience at that point
Guess what? Ryan did win a award handful of awards for it & got nominated for Oscars too 😂😂
