  • This is a video of Union Pacific's operating bigboy locomotive #4014 traveling from Limon Colorado to Denver Colorado. Along this route there are many beautiful landscapes and features for the bigboy to pass by. This video has runbys and pacing of the bigboy in many of my favorite places to railfan on this subdivision.

    I watched it get first moved/towed out of the Pamona Fair Grounds. Then twice again(fully operational) recently atop the Cajon Pass. Whatever it cost to restore & run it's priceless living history as well as a perfect spokesmodel and PR for Union Pacific.

    Excellent video! I've driven that stretch of I-70 many times, and there is not much to see along the way. It would have been great to drive along with Big Boy!

    I’d like to see her hauling a proper freight train. I wonder if those hopper truck were full or empty... It’s good that UP are preserving some of their old locomotives.

    Very cool to see a big boy out running on the rails I wonder what its cruising speed is.

      It can probably get to 60 or 70 mph but the fastest the crews runs it at is 40

      I rode Big Boy from Sallisaw OK to Gore OK two weeks ago. We cruised along at 40mph.

    Love this video. Really like those pacing shots! I can imagine that at this point Ed and the crew are really tired after this epic trip and are thinking: "...almost home...".

    Was that an emergency stop I heard at Deer Trail, Colorado? From the rapped repeated whistle ,something was up!

    • @ColoradoRailroadProductions
      @ColoradoRailroadProductions  4 роки тому +7

      521wurlitzer it was not a emergency stop but someone was on the track but eventually they got off but if they had been on for 5-10 more seconds he Probably would’ve pulled the brake

    Why the covered hopper cars?

    • @ColoradoRailroadProductions
      @ColoradoRailroadProductions  4 роки тому +6

      The covered hoppers are for in case the emergency brakes get used since the passenger cars were dropped of closer to where they are stored. This means that if the brakes were applied there would be more axles to stop the train quickly

    • @eva.cassidy
      @eva.cassidy 4 роки тому +4

      And I noticed how clean those hoppers look - no tagging on them (yet).

    The crew in the diesel locomotive must be bored out of their minds, especially on the flat prairies. Maybe the put the dynamic brakes on every once in while to see it slows 4014 down at all, I beat it doesn't.

    • @eva.cassidy
      @eva.cassidy 4 роки тому +2

      Might be time to put a MU controller in 4014 like the 844 has.

    • @ColoradoRailroadProductions
      @ColoradoRailroadProductions  4 роки тому +1

      I could be wrong but I believe 4014 already has a mu controller in it.

    • @Chuck59ish
      @Chuck59ish 4 роки тому +1

      @@ColoradoRailroadProductions If 844 has one, they probably put on in 4014 too, if you look close, there is no one in the diesel.

    • @Chuck59ish
      @Chuck59ish 4 роки тому +1

      @@ColoradoRailroadProductions I just watched a video from TolgaEastCoast of 4014's trip thru Texas and there was a crew in the locomotive # 2551 that they had on that trip, so maybe Texas required them to have a crew?

    • @ColoradoRailroadProductions
      @ColoradoRailroadProductions  4 роки тому

      Charles Damery I Believe in some areas they need someone in the cab like on passes and other places that require lots of braking just in case the mu fails but if it failed in flat land it wouldn’t matter so they didn’t have anyone in the cab
