I'm sold on the XF. This review is exactly what I need to see. Thanks for the go through. Update... bought the XF, I found that the comfort right out of the box wasn't as comfortable as I thought it would be, after getting new insoles, baking and getting on the ice with them, these things are dreamy to my feet, not hot spots no discomfort. Not sure CCM will be able to top these skates.
Your comments about the internal liners strike home with me, I have the 100k Pro's ( and love them ) but as a beer leaguer who skates twice a week for the year and a half that I've had them, the liners have recently developed a few tears inside the boot. The liners on the XF Pro and XF LOOK the same, but I don't think they are, at least in the videos. I'll be in the market for a new pair next year, but I truly hope these liners are stronger.
You do amazing videos with a lot of facts to back your claims. I have a woodworking back ground and when it comes to chisels and hand planes, in order for them to working correctly you have to understand what SHARP really means. The reason why a polished edge is desired for sharpness is because under a microscope that polished edge is smooth with no micro scratches (which create a micro serrated edge) but In order for something to truly be sharp it needs both edges to be polished. For example. If you polish one edge of your chisel at 10 000 grit. and you use a 1000 grit stone for the opposite edge you have only affectively sharpened that edge to 1000 grit. So I believe that that polished edges of these new blade steels are a gimmick because no matter how polished one edge is, the other edge is still coming off the stone wheel at whatever grit that wheel is. I don’t know what grit these sharpening stones use but if you can find a way to test this, I believe you’ll find that you don’t get any advantage from the polished blade UNLESS THE HOLLOW IS POLISHED TO THE SAME SHINE. It would make for a good video if you can figure a way to test this. And I believe you are the right man for the job. However the harder the steel the longer the edge will last but WE ALL KNOW THIS. It’s the polished edge (single edge) that gives us more glide that everyone is fooled by
Love the comparison. I bought some XF 90's a few weeks ago. After 6 times on the ice, brought them back in. They were too painful. Had a wide size. Sales rep convinced me to try the XF's. They had to order them though since they didn't have a wide in stock. Should arrive later this week. Hoping they work out and are a better fit! They had a non-wide size in stock and I did like the liner better compared to the XF 90's.
Hey, did I write this comment, because this is EXACTLY what I’m going to do on the weekend. Return my XF90s. Did you have pain in your instep? I feel like my arch is on the curve as it wraps up to the laces. They feel awful. I’ll just eat the extra $$$
@@phelan00 I had all around pain. I also think I got the wrong insole as the bump in the middle was too high and causing pain in my arch at that spot. Yeah, since I am getting into reffing, eating the extra money for the comfort just made sense. My skates are arriving at the store today so I'll get them baked and head to public skate session tonight to test them out. If this fails, I am just going to get some True Customs but wasn't ready to eat that cost just yet if I don't have to. Hope your XF's work out for you!
@@KennyJacobssame to you. I have a very wide foot and need the extra volume that’s not afforded by the lower price point, so I’m really hoping it works out for both of us.
@@KennyJacobsthat’s great hear. I was looking at some overhead shots comparing them, and they look SO much wider as you describe than the XF90s. Looking forward to grabbing a pair after work tomorrow and taking them for a spin. Glad they’re working out for you, man.
I guess the higher instep addresses the market of former CCM Ribcor & Bauer Nexus skates users. I will definitely move to the Tacks XF because I could never get the 100k Pro in my fit at a reasonable price here in Sweden. The Senior skates were completely snapped up by the serious skaters (playing hockey in Division 2 and lower where they have to buy their own skates) as soon as the price dropped under SEK 9000 (GBP 750 last year). The current average price in retail on the Xfs is GBP 588 (SEK 7999), so a steal by modern skate pricing standards considering your rave review. My son (U13 Defense, 166 cm tall, 64 kg) will definitely want to move to them from his current Bauer Supreme M5 Pro since they never felt as good as his last RIBCORs. Considering he is on the ice 10+ hours a week I hope the liners last better than in the Ribcors...
Hi, amazing video. I have a question regarding the width. I have CCM TACKS AS3 Pro in width: EE, the AS-V Pro where much to wide in width: wide. What is the adapted width at the XF Pro?
Chris, Would you opt for these over your SVH custom True’s? I’m looking to make a buying decision next month and since you’ve skated in both, your input matters. Thanks.
9:10 - tongues... actually, I had both of these in my hands today, and they did NOT have the same tongues. The XF had a felt-top tongue, whule the XF Pro had the tongue you show on the video. Both had similar shapes and the 3DO protection was there in both of them, but they were not the same. I also noticed, that while my "old" pair of AS-V Pros has a replaceable tongue, these were just sewn in place. In fact, I saw no reason to upgrade to the currentl model at all. Actually, if you can still find an AS-V Pro - now heavily discounted - in your size, I think it is the better choice.
Recommendation? True catalyst 9x4 vs ccm xf pro skates. I get for both a discount, but the catalyst cost approx. 150€ more than the ccm. Thanks for any recommendation in advance!
Excellent comparison. I need new skates and hadn't even considered the second tier model. Gonna have to go try them on and possibly save myself $300 CAD. Also, I think liner B is the XF Pro's.... pure guess though, as they look the same.
So weird, I'm seeing both the "non-pro" XFs and 652's only have the felt tongue compared to the upgraded one as well, I wonder why some have the nicer tongue for the XF's.
I noticed that XF models do not have the 2 pegs on the toe cap to replace tongues like other models....if need be. If so, how are the tongues replaced?
Damn, i just bought my skates CCM AS-590 's last autumn...just a bit to early i guess. I have those pressure points at the towcap. Hmm ..i really like these, also that blacked out design
I just bought the XF. I tried everything to fit my wide feet. The wide fit on these is the most comfortable skate I have ever owned or tried. And after trying all the skates available I got to say I dont know why you would up-buy from the XF. You really cannot feel the difference between these and the Pros. Plus the materials are proven in the XFs.
Just put my feet on a pair of xf, and those are comfy, now they are stuck in my mind, i have a pair of ft6 pros, i love them but since a taste the xf, oh i'm torn between keeping the ft6p or change
Has anyone noticed issues with the heel looks causing pain or discomfort? I have used as3 pros for 3+ years and even since I got them I needed to wear a gel pad on my heel.
@ it’s night and day honestly. The XF skates weren’t bad by any means but once I got in the pros it was a very noticeable increase in comfort. My feet haven’t hurt once since I got them.
RFM! Not RMF🤦🏾♂️🚨 Misspoke here guys. *****

Got the XF skate and I love it I can barely fit into a Bauer fit 3 and the CCM wide is a comfortable fit with no pain once you bake and break in

Working on that this week...
Please do Bauer Nexus Tracer vs Proto R vs Nexus sync
Great video, just a question out of the box do the Tacks XF/Pro comes with forward or neutral pitch?

How do the xf compare to the ft6. Not the pro versions
