To all the people saying London doesn't need more infrastructure: yes it has much higher investment than the rest of the country. But public transport use is so much higher they regularly have to close underground stations to avoid deaths from crushing.
Its not a case of 'regularly have to close underground stations to avoid deaths from crushing.' That is bs. What may happen during busy periods is access into the station may be temporarily halted for 10-15 mins in order to allow platforms to clear/become less busy &/or routes between platforms may be changed (by opening or closing gates) making it slightly longer for people to get to the platforms.

The Crossrail 2 project, will all depend on the success of the Crossrail 1 project. Whilst TFL is currently trying to fund a black hole of £1.5B, the Crossrail 1 project could be its saving grace. The two busiest lines on the underground network, are currently the Northern line and Central line with a carrying capacity of 294 million and 289 million passengers per annum respectively. The current Crossrail 1 project (Elizabeth line) , is expected to carry 200 million passengers per annum. Personally, I think this a conservative figure. The Central line is almost parallel to the Elizabeth line, in terms of it running from East to West and cutting through the city and west end and the Elizabeth line will be the preferred option for most commuters who live within the "inner zone influence," of a Crossrail station. In comparison to the Central line and the Northern line, the best way to describe the Elizabeth line, is that it has all the standard features of the busiest lines but so much more! Wider carriages, longer carriages, shorter journey times, more frequent trains per hour, direct trains to all Heathrow terminals and more.
It needs to extend further southwest, looks like both Wimbledon and Clapham Junction will be rebuilt, hopefully the later will have the northern line extended from Battersea to it, there are some interesting proposals online for those stations.
You say Northern line extended to Clapham junction from Battersea power stn? I been thinking myself was from Waterloo to Clapham junction extension of 'Waterloo & City' line form Bank and Waterloo, I just know but how emerged to solve the puzzle like this.
Clapham Junction is going to have to be completely redone, as it’s just huge at that point, with national rail, southwestern, tube links, a huge amount of buses and crossrail 2. Literally going to be just as large as Euston at that point.
I signed up for Crossrail 2 emails but no information provided so far on what will happen to homes built next to lines between Tottenham and Broxbourne
Whatever happened to Crossrail 2 stopping at Piccadilly Circus? I swear most of the historic Chelsea-Hackney lines intended to stop there (and maybe early plans for Crossrail 2?), but it's not on more recent official plans
Chelsea-Hackney was for shorter tube-length trains. The Crossrails have 250+ metre platforms. The south exit of Tottenham Court Road will be nearby and Piccadilly Circus wouldn't add much connectivity.

What about building the line from Peterborough-Bedford and taking trains from the north directly into Clapham Junction? How much of the overcrowding is down to people simply transiting London when they don't need to?
As a Northerner I feel that London, as much as I love it. has had enough investment for now . In my opinion Crossrail 2 should only be considered when HS 2 and HS3 (Manchester to Leeds) are completed in full. Not wishing to sound alarmist, the current Covid 19 crisis will change the way the public views UK Government spending . They said that there was no magic money tree., but there is . It is called quantitative easing. It is now a magic forest the size of the Amazon rainforest. But does that matter? What is money - only digits in a server in a bunker somewhere. Be good if we could have HS2 HS3 and Crossrail2. After all I am a railway enthusiast.
Interesting there was a line from Sevensisters to Palace Gates. The line followed West Green Road to West Green Station where Phillip Lane and West Green Road meet the next station was Joel Park which was on Woodgreen high road, it is where the West Green shopping centre now stands. The terminus was only a few hundred yards east of Wood Green station now called Alexander Palace. The line closed on 7 th Jan 1963 It really went down hill when the Piccadilly tube line was extended north to Cockfosters from Finsbury park. Funny if the rail corridor had my been built on I'm sure by now the line would have had a connection linking Woodgreen to Sevensisters. As it was there was a connection to the loop line to Hertford Morth
I'm all for local power in this regard. I'm with them. They don't want it to be too easy to drag people from less prosperous areas to their neighbourhood and 'hang around' and I don't blame them to be honest given the evidence of what I have seen elsewhere in London.
As wikipedia suggests: Above ground, after surfacing south of Wimbledon station, using the existing SWML slow line, and providing between 4 and 20 trains per hour, the southern section comprises: - 20 trains per hour at Raynes Park National Rail - 8-10 trains per hour at Motspur Park National Rail - Exclusive use of the Chessington branch line to Chessington South at 4 trains per hour - Mixed (shared) use of the Raynes Park - Epsom line to Epsom National Rail (Sutton and Mole Valley lines) (4-6 trains per hour) - 10-12 trains per hour at New Malden National Rail - Exclusive use of the Hampton Court branch line to Hampton Court at 4 trains per hour via shared station Surbiton National Rail - Shared use of the bulk of the Kingston Loop Line via Kingston National Rail at 6-8 trains per hour to Teddington National Rail and 4 trains per hour onward to Shepperton National Rail
Chelsea already has an underground station - Sloane Square. It also has plenty of bus routes running along the King's Road. What's the point of sending all the southern Greater London Crossrail 2 traffic through a Kings Road station? There isn't the passenger demand. People traveling Victoria-Clapham Junction want to get as quickly as possible to Victoria and vice-versa. They are not interested in stop-offs at Chelsea. We already have the Circle and District lines from Victoria for that.
So you want to use existing 2 track lines north of the core section (idk about the south if anyone wants to fill me in), on that existing line is multiple level crossings for vehicles and some foot crossings. As someone who has been to brimsdown station (one of cross rail 2’s proposed north stations), the level crossing is every 3-10 minutes anyway and 4 tracks is not possible as housing limitations. So if it’s max 15 tph on cross rail 2 (15 to new Southgate to make the 30 mentioned) then add that to the already large 15-20 tph Greater Anglia stuff (stopping and not) then it would be far to much for the line and something would need to be done. Unless I don’t know and it is possible idk
They plan to quad track it, work has already been done as far as Meridian water with 3 tracks in place and route cleared for 4. The line was previously quad all the way out of London and looking on Google maps most of the route still seems clear, would need to rebuild and expand all the stations though.
There is a arrow on the right in Hackney Central for the Eastern Branch up towards Basildon and 2 branches to Grays. This will stop through in East Ham.I live in East Ham.
I'm sure it was Boris who called for it to be called the Churchill Line (among other comments here). Though I for one would love the Chelney Line name to live on. Not only does it have history it the various predecessor proposals it is also an established name among our circles. Anyway, I doubt Churchill would approve of having a railway named after him. From what I've read of him, he didn't care much for vanity though I could be sorely mistaken.
I feel like Clapham Junction wouldn’t have enough space to build it so they should chose a place like Clapham South Because It Would Hell Out The Area More Than Clapham Junction
If it ever does happen, the line should not run either by Balham or Tooting but via the place that is and always has been missed out by Public Transport and that is Wandsworth High Street. Wandsworth has no centralised rail station (both "Town" and "Common" are a long way from the High Street. It has no Underground service either. In the past, it missed out on Green Line Coach Services and most people living there have had (as they still do now) to rely on just buses. You can guarantee that any hair brained transport idea featuring rail always misses out Wandsworth. It's about time this changed.
Well there was some suggestion to call what is now the Elizabeth Line, after Winston Churchill. But Boris after conversation with a member of the Royal Family went with Elizabeth. With a degree of debate calling Cross Rail 2 the Churchill Line instead. I have to say I like the idea of a London line called the Churchill....
Mega projects usual run between 3-5 times over budget, so it would probably end up being about 100 billion pounds. As for what to call the line, on the very slim chance that the Queen isn't still alive, it would probably be named after whomever has the crown.

South East to North West would be my suggestion.
@@johnm2012 There was a proposal to build a Crossrail branch from Old Oak Common to the West Coast Main Line, which would've achieved that in combination with the Abbey Wood branch
Inkyminkyzizwoz Abbey Wood isn't enough
@@travia6688 There was a proposal to extend the Abbey Wood branch to Dartford but it got scrapped. Hopefully the Bakerloo line extension will go ahead, although I probably would've moved out of SE London and graduated from Uni by the time it is finished. I wouldn't even care about SE London getting a tube or crossrail line if Southeastern trains weren't so damn unreliable!
Sam the bakerloo line extension is in the consultation phase to extend to Lewisham
this could easily be brought down to the woking/guildford area as it’s on the mainline as is raynes park but watch them just ignore that possibility flat out
They've defo got to call it the Phil Line.
It'll be the Charles Line, obvs. "Going up the Charlie" in the local lingo, if you like.
Why this doesnt go to gatwick is beyond me
JohnDYT possibly because Southern is worried of losing business
That would double the length of the south part.
Because it’s too far away from London
I believe you can get to Gatwick on Oyster anyway
I think people commute more often than they go on holiday
Everybody gangsta’ till they call it the Andrew Line
the sonorthen line

Nice video!
Thx for continue yours documentaries i actually like them and im Portuguese
It needs to extend further southwest, looks like both Wimbledon and Clapham Junction will be rebuilt, hopefully the later will have the northern line extended from Battersea to it, there are some interesting proposals online for those stations.
Not really as SWR (and whatever it's nationalised name will be) already covers that area quite thoroughly but the central south west needs things
Literally going to be just as large as Euston at that point.
wimbledon and clapham junction will both be underground
The Roadman Line.
So sorry I almost certainly won't be alive to see this project come to fruition.
This is way more exciting.
I signed up for Crossrail 2 emails but no information provided so far on what will happen to homes built next to lines between Tottenham and Broxbourne
They may end up calling it The Charles Line if you've heard today's ness
Nah, it will be The Willy Line, as he will be the only one left alive by the time it gets built..!
@@delboy7039 Queen Liz is immortal.
Whatever happened to Crossrail 2 stopping at Piccadilly Circus? I swear most of the historic Chelsea-Hackney lines intended to stop there (and maybe early plans for Crossrail 2?), but it's not on more recent official plans
Yeah, we thought that too that was even since.
No,The Crossrail 2 won’t stop at Piccadilly Circus especially the Crossrail 2 will stop at Tottenham Court Road for changing for Crossrail 1
Chelsea-Hackney was for shorter tube-length trains. The Crossrails have 250+ metre platforms. The south exit of Tottenham Court Road will be nearby and Piccadilly Circus wouldn't add much connectivity.
piccadilly circus is already busy, they probably dont want to add more congestion however it would be a good interchange.
Boris Johnson suggested in consulations that it would be called the Churchill Line to pay homage to Winston Churchill
I like the idea of the Philip Line
Wasn’t it the Willy Line?
As in Willyteveractuallyhappen Line?
Another Willy line already been running for 161 years :

If you ask about the Willy train in Melbourne they will think you are a local, so your comment sparked a response to me.
anyone know the specific reason for broxbourne as an end point? the overground already goes to cheshunt
no its probably gonna be like the elizabeth line and continue further up the existing line, thats probably the end of the construction
@@thedumgamer2046 Then why does it show the existing branches at the southern end?
they havent got any more money to make it go further
What about building the line from Peterborough-Bedford and taking trains from the north directly into Clapham Junction? How much of the overcrowding is down to people simply transiting London when they don't need to?
hopefully they'll call it the charles line
Can’t even get a bus here in Wales.
Wonderful that three towns in Surrey, as well as Shepperton in Middlesex could be connected to XR2.
I live in Dorking (a few stops beyond Epsom) hoping it is going to be easy to connect to the service
The most expensive rail project I've ever heard of!
I love the background music.
Any chance of an updated version of the video for 2022?
Interesting there was a line from Sevensisters to Palace Gates.
The line followed West Green Road to West Green Station where Phillip Lane and West Green Road meet the next station was Joel Park which was on Woodgreen high road, it is where the West Green shopping centre now stands.
The terminus was only a few hundred yards east of Wood Green station now called Alexander Palace.
The line closed on 7 th Jan 1963
It really went down hill when the Piccadilly tube line was extended north to Cockfosters from Finsbury park.
Funny if the rail corridor had my been built on I'm sure by now the line would have had a connection linking Woodgreen to Sevensisters.
As it was there was a connection to the loop line to Hertford Morth
have to get Crossrail 1 finished yet, and the way its going it wont be ready for another 5 years
Can you make a video on HS2
He's made a couple already looking at the construction sites at Euston and Old Oak Common
Have you seen the flyby?

I can't wait for Crossrail 3 from Marylebone to Bricklayers Arms!
that could be bakerloo extension
Wait a minute...
Yes there need crossrail 2 from Hertfordshire to Surrey there should call Charles line.
How about ‘LINE OF CHARLIE’?
The residents of Kensington & Chelsea hold FARRRR too much power, can you imagine that happening in Lewisham for example?!
I'm all for local power in this regard. I'm with them. They don't want it to be too easy to drag people from less prosperous areas to their neighbourhood and 'hang around' and I don't blame them to be honest given the evidence of what I have seen elsewhere in London.
So will SWR and Southern still run trains to destinations that CR2 wishes to serve?
Some but not all. IIRC, the Chessington & Hampton Court branches will transfer completely to CR2 while the remainder of the lines will be shared.
As wikipedia suggests:
Above ground, after surfacing south of Wimbledon station, using the existing SWML slow line, and providing between 4 and 20 trains per hour, the southern section comprises:
- 20 trains per hour at Raynes Park National Rail
- 8-10 trains per hour at Motspur Park National Rail
- Exclusive use of the Chessington branch line to Chessington South at 4 trains per hour
- Mixed (shared) use of the Raynes Park - Epsom line to Epsom National Rail (Sutton and Mole Valley lines) (4-6 trains per hour)
- 10-12 trains per hour at New Malden National Rail
- Exclusive use of the Hampton Court branch line to Hampton Court at 4 trains per hour via shared station Surbiton National Rail
- Shared use of the bulk of the Kingston Loop Line via Kingston National Rail at 6-8 trains per hour to Teddington National Rail and 4 trains per hour onward to Shepperton National Rail
The Alpha line (ALexandra palace to claPHAm junction).
Clever
Why not name is after the Queen's sister "The Princess Margaret Line?" x
1:33 now that'd be one very busy station
Two years later and I can say Lizzy does work
A good question is, what rolling stock would it use?
and would it be called the Charles Line maybe?
If the Victoria Line didn't already exist it would have been a good name for it.
Maybe the Boudica Line?
There is a arrow on the right in Hackney Central for the Eastern Branch up towards Basildon and 2 branches to Grays. This will stop through in East Ham.I live in East Ham.
I really hope they found a way for trains to serve Turnpike Lane, Alexandra Palace and Tooting Broadway
The only way to travel on full journey on Crossrail 2 is from Chessington South to New Southgate. On Crossrail 1 is Heathrow to Abbey Wood.
When you realise every station is on there except for Walthamstow Central.
isnt that already a really busy & popular station? maybe they dont want to make it more congested
@@joesos If you think that’s congested, then your forgetting Victoria and Clapham Junction exist.
It's already likely to have a station in balham which is close enough
Martell Brighten fair enough
Chelsea really needs a tube station so does most of the south of london
Yh having a chelsea tube station would be so useful
If it ever does happen, the line should not run either by Balham or Tooting but via the place that is and always has been missed out by Public Transport and that is Wandsworth High Street. Wandsworth has no centralised rail station (both "Town" and "Common" are a long way from the High Street. It has no Underground service either. In the past, it missed out on Green Line Coach Services and most people living there have had (as they still do now) to rely on just buses. You can guarantee that any hair brained transport idea featuring rail always misses out Wandsworth. It's about time this changed.
Wandsworth is very close to Clapham junction station so it wouldn't make sense.
@@AD-hf1hp Yeah, and Clapham Junction’s importance is just too high, and with bus links to CJ from Wandsworth anyways, no point.
The Churchill Line.. .. "Oh Yesssssss", and replace the LUL circular sign with a bulldog :-)
I'd rather not tbh
Mega projects usual run between 3-5 times over budget, so it would probably end up being about 100 billion pounds. As for what to call the line, on the very slim chance that the Queen isn't still alive, it would probably be named after whomever has the crown.
I think Crossrail 2 has now had to be put on the back burner or scrapped as a condition of Tfl receiving emergency funding from the government.
We will never see Crossrail 2 in our lifetime.
Can I ask what software u use for your virtual videos
