Attaching all the zips into the carry strap? That is GOLD, woman! Gold! It's getting so difficult to find pencil storage that does not have a zipper to enclose each "page" of the book, and this tip solves that problem easily. Now I can buy pencil books.
I also love pencils. I too have a couple of old Derwent Drawing pencils, I even have quite a few flat rectangular Derwent Drawing pencils. My pencil collection is still in it's infancy. I've not really bought any budget pencil sets, because it is prohibitively expensive to buy from Amazon when you live in South Africa.
It's absolutely satisfying to see all those pencil sets in their own pencil cases, easily accessable whenever you need them. I'd love to have a collection like yours one day! Keep up the wonderful art Helen!
I have the same pencil cases in black and love them. The only part that bugged me was the multi zippers but now I know how to get around that 😅. I want to thank whoever gave that tip!
The 2 sets of special wood Caran D’ache pencils are spectacular looking. I love how organized you have your complete collection of pencils. I have both colored pencils, watercolor pencils, & graphite pencils. I have been thinking about getting some pastel pencils next. I definitely might get a pencil case to hold them altogether instead of keeping them in the tins. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video with us.
Thanks so much! Yes the the Caran D'Ache pencils just feel like art themselves! Even though you have to slide the pencils out of the cases, they just feel more useable than in tins - perhaps because of the colour charts.
I have pencil envy! The thought of having to unzip 4 times for each case has always put me off this style of pencil case - so the tip about putting the zip pulls together is a brilliant idea. TFS
Absolutely adore those CaranD’Ache pencils! Very envious! Also my 1st Derwent Aquarell watercolour pencil set are 25+ years old & exactly like the few you have! ( recommended by a German tutor at time of purchase ), must say you are very orderly! Your cupboard full of materials looks great!! Will watch your video fully when I’ve time but looking forward to your next planned video. Also having bought really enough recently I’m lacking in pastel pencils & want some very much my list lengthens daily! Guess you’ll understand. Thanks
Have now watched well your video & can’t say enough how wonderful I also find your Xmas edition pencils! Also have 2 pencil cases ( on your advice ) enjoy them loads, & when I get home may I copy your tip with the A4 swatch charts? Very good idea, & massively useful. I think we’re a strange breed getting so much pleasure from colours, pencils & paints, peculiar, but, I’m pleased not to be the only one. Thanks
I'm so pleased you're enjoying your cases and swatch charts!! Yes, it's lovely to find other people who feel the same way! I think that's why I'm enjoying Youtubing so much!
@@helencryer Hi, In your talking about paintbrushes video you mentioned Temu, on which I tried to acquire information on acquisitions of purchase, this wasn’t totally clear, I also ordered from Temu but wasn’t completely satisfied with packaging of the products hence dents, bends & breakages on writing 4 mails of complaint I gave up & decided never to order there again, the countries they seem to be registered in seem, I don’t know how to phrase this but, my art shop & Amazon seem now to be my go to. Thanks
I've decided to no longer shop from Temu, because I'm not sure the ethics of where they get their products. I didn't have problems with items I ordered though, and the one thing I returned was straightforward and I quickly received a refund. The thing that now worries me slightly, is where Amazon gets products from, because some of them seem identical to those from Temu.
I love see how you organized these. I just purchased a case very similar to these and I love how they are so easy to flip through to find what Im looking for.
@@helencryer This video was the first I had seen from your channel and now I am bing watching them. Your voice is very calming which is exactly what I need on a Friday afternoon.
Your pencil collection is fab and your organisational skills are phenomenal🙌🏼 I need to get myself some of those cases because my various pencil collections, currently sit in various vintage jars. They look pretty but it's so frustrating trying to find colours quickly! I have swatches for my pencils but your swatch book idea is👌🏼And those rare wood Caran d'Ache pencils are beautiful😍
Thank you for making this! After watching it the first time I ordered 2 of the cases which arrived today. Looking so forward to filling them. It will make it so much easier to use more colors without having to deal with the metal cases! :)
Oh, I really hope you enjoy them! I would often tip out whole pencil trays by accident etc, and everything would end up in a mess. I like that it feels so much easier to go to the exact pencil I want, though I need to use my colour charts for that too.
I loved your collection. I have the Prismas and Brutfuners and would love the Polychromos too! I love to have you in the background while I draw Helen. I really enjoy your videos! 🫂 from Massachusetts!
Wow! That’s a great collection. I’ve managed to get some of the luminance, polychromos and Prismacolor as open stock. But I have a set of 60 Albrecht Durer WC that are my favorites! Smooth, nicely pigmented and the pencil marks melt away with water into the paper, if you use it that way. I also rub off color from the pencil with a wet brush. Very easy to use. The pencil storage booklets are great organization too. Thanks for that tip in one of your past videos!
Ohmygosh… those Caran D’ache pencils are BEAUTIFUL! Loved seeing the flip through of your cases; there is something so satisfying about seeing your colour charts line up perfectly with the rows in the pencil case, so you can easily grab the colour you need. So perfect! The matching cases also look so lovely together on the shelf, I am all about storage aesthetics 😅. I cannot believe you had a couple of sets remaining from when you were a teenager! I don’t think my mom kept any of my old art supplies (and she’s quite the crafty/hobbyist herself, so that is surprising… instead I have a doll bed in my basement and a couple of other large wooden items to store 😂). Of all of those types of pencils in all of your cases, I cannot believe you don’t have a Blackwing pencil or two for sketching! (I normally use a mechanical pencil, but I do love the Blackwing pearl and matte pencils).
They're lovely aren't they?! I don't know why, but being able to get to an exact colour as soon as possible makes me want to do art so much more. Being organised definitely enables me. The pencils have come with me everywhere! Mind you, I owned my own home at 21, so my parents never had to store stuff for me 🙂 Oh, I actually have one Blackwing in my pen pot too!
@@helencryer I knew you HAD to have a Blackwing somewhere! 😂 I can see how that level of organization would inspire you to create more! I lived in an apartment for a few years during university and my first couple of years when I worked full time… so a lot of my belongings were in my parents’ house until I was about 25-26… that was plenty of time for my mom to “toss” things 😆. (Probably helped me in the long run.)
I love those cases and have several to hold my collection. You’re right, you don’t need to use them to get joy from them. Holbein is on my wish list so there may be a new case in my future.
Lovely collection, and your organizational skills are impressive! I've got two of those pencil cases; one for my color pencils, and one for my watercolor pencils. They all fit, with the exception of a 72 set of Derwent watercolor pencils that I've had since you were a teen (since I think I'm older than you) -- they've been in their own case since shortly after I bought them years ago. Here's a weird question: now that you've gotten them all in cases, have you thrown away the tins that the sets came in? (I still have mine, but I feel silly keeping them).
I've got all mine on top of a cupboard at the moment, and can't quite bring myself to put them in the recycling! I might use one of the Derwent tins for a paint palette though. I expect at some point I will just get rid of them though.
I have the whole range of spectrum noir pencils, they’re in a big pot but I think I’m going to have to get them one if those cases. They’ll probably fill one. I’m collecting Derwent drawing (I have 12) and I’m also collecting Holbein and Carandache luminance x
I'm so sad to see such unused pencils😢 I only have Prismacolor 150 set. They are extremely affordable her in the US. I dream of getting Polychromos but unlikely! I love your color chart arrangement. Charts are useful, and yours makes sense.
Beautiful I store my artist grade colouring pencils in a pencil case too I do adult colouring.. is the prismacolor one u had trouble with is it Tuscan red? I’ve always had problems with mine breaking after sharpening.. ❤❤❤😊😊😊xxx
Good morning Helen , interesting to see all your purchases , did you win the lottery and did you bring a sherpa home from Nepal to help you carry all your kit when you go out for a spot ot plein air !!!! Really love your vids , keep them coming , love from Mike in Exeter xx
Haha, cheeky! Well, I've always made my hobbies pay for themselves, and I'm lucky that now my art makes a bit of money, which I seem to keep putting back into more art materials 😁 I'll have you know I can travel very lightweight when I want to 🤣 Thanks Mike, all the best!

😂 I'm glad this helps! I can't take credit for the idea though - someone once gave the suggestion in the comments!
I simply bow myself in front of this fantastic collection of yours! Wow 😮 and 😋 🥰🥰
