One of Stanley Jordan's very best. To be working alongside with great side artist like Omar Hakim and the late Onaje Allan Gumbs in keyboards is but a gift from God. The 80s was truly one of the last decades to have such diversity and extended range in music practically in jazz.
It's even worse for me: I've been listening to that song since 1985 but It's only now that I discover this video version that I really enjoy too much! Thanks to whoever posted it. G-d Bless Stanley, he's an absolute genius.
Loved loved loved the original ... loved this version so much. The greatest Tiger guitarist being repped here on the first day of the Year of the Tiger!
I saw this video when I was about 4 years old and I have always loved the playing on this track and I've watched this video many times especially later on with my wife. It wasn't until watching it today that I discovered that the video tells a very interesting and kinda haunting and strangely now relatable story. I think I was simply staring at the Ibanez the entire time 😆
Love this one! Everything! Including solo on kybds (cut out in this version) and Omar on drums. One of most frequently played tunes in my collection. I find it very energizing, I think because of the pulsation emanating from it .
oh ... the original stuff from him is just elevator music with extra noodling. and that is why he got no where. Japanese Jazz was leaps better at the time. And this isn't even his original ? lol. I see why he is forgotten. Musicians really gotta focus on COMPOSING a bit ...
what the heck is Japanese Jazz, is that just Jazz played by a Japanese National? Your mention of it is so random, why is it mentioned here when you are taking potshots at the artist and not a genre?
And what was it that you done with your life? Exactly. !!!! And wtf are you talking about? Forgotten? I guess that's why you're watching the video commenting 🤪
one of the baddest guitar players ever. not just anybody can cover Michael Jackson. Stanley Jordan did the thing
I remember seeing this video on BET when I was 13. It brings back memories because I was taking ballet classes.
I remember meeting this brother when he was at Gunn high school while i was at Menlo-Atherton high school.
Sublime quality sophisticated version of a classic song thank-you rod temperton +QUINCY Jones

I remember that album's WARNING LABEL. "Do not be deceived".... Thanks for sharing. Stanley.
Stan has always been the best guitarist in my opinion.
It's a fact.
Wow! Haven't seen this video since 1985.

In the 80s I used to see this video all the time on Odyssey. It was a great video channel

Firstly I can’t believe that there is an actual video clip for this exquisite instrumental cover. Secondly, what an awesome one at that.
Great video

Is that Victoria Dillard from " Deep Cover" that's dancing?
Yes!

Not even considered in the RS best 500 guitarists what a joke RS is this man is a genius
You played at that corner with Arthur Rhames (on Tenor Sax) and guitar, is that right? Must have been amazing!
I did play with Arthur Rhames in those days, but we never did any street gigs together.
This is a better version than the original from MJ
Yep.

Did you hear his version of Bolero. I heard it in the radio crossing the Columbia River into Portland. I pulled over so I would buy it.
