Love the vids man! Seriously, this is the first channel I look for in demos of a pedal I'm interested in. Do you know how sensitive this pedal is to signal chain placement?
The Benson blurb also says "Notes are given a simultaneously smoother and more detailed character, like a compressor but different. ... It’s killer on bass. It helps acoustic guitar pickups sound more natural." Any thoughts on this? My intended use would be more among those lines.
Not sure if you ended up getting it, but germanium coloring of any kind is very specific in tone. Listen to the video and really decide if you like all of the tones of the guitar. It makes anything dark sound very bright and of course there will be more sustain. Ultimately for me, I don’t like the specific vibe, it’s too vintage although if that’s what your going for then the pedal is a steal.
So, it lists at about $ 100 less than the Pre ; it's the best sound, the old Germanium, but I'd rather do the bias myself.Seems reasonable for what it is.Maybe in. I've read a bit on how the Kingtone Ge mini, which has the light that tells you when you're within a workable range, has had a lot of problems.I've also noticed that the market is flooded with the Silicon version, with few if any of the other. Is this because Kingtone stopped making them, or because no one's selling?Funny, - the initial reviews were glowing,- like the Morgan pedals, - before they started substituting different components.
I’ve never played anything from Kingtone so I can’t speak to that, but I will say this is a very different type of pedal than the Benson Pre. That is a transistor conversion of their Monarch amp’s preamp circuit, this is a boost more meant for slightly shaping your signal and pushing your amp
@@collectoremitter That's right, - it's the more recent Fuzz that originally featured the self biasing Germanium clipping. Been doing extensive research on varied clipping forms recently, and confused the two.I would take the Boost over the Fuzz, anyday.
I'll chime in, having owned both the Kingtone Si and Ge. They're both Fuzz Faces so really nothing like this boost, but I will say that the Si version is GREAT. I thought the Ge version absolutely sucked, couldn't sell it fast enough. So many better germ FFs out there - I'd check out something like an a AM Sun Face, an EFE Black Acid, Black Pixel Pink Face, or a Jam Pedals Fuzz Phrase if you can find one of the non-silly original ones that doesn't cost $200 more bc it's wrapped in velvet...
@@popvultureatx5656 I realized I was a bit off topic, but I'd been pondering the Kingtone thing for a minute; the Ge had serious temp & biasing issues, as widely noted? I've actually come to prefer these pre FF/ early Ge booster designs.I like the ToneBender 1.5, but ONLY the 1.5.,- Thanks for the response.
Pedro the Lion in a box
I'd love to know how this sounds stacked before a Preamp MKII...
Okay, this sounds incredible.
Sounds so good. i love the riff at around 2min as well.
Have one on the way. Can’t wait to hear it paired with my Nathan Jr. I respect anything Chris Benson puts out
Great playing, and yet, another Benson pedal I want!

Killer tones! That first riff sounds like Kurt Vile & Courtney Barnett - 'On Script' - solid choice!
Totally.
Haha, not the first time I’ve been told that. I didn’t intend that, but I guess I subconsciously lifted it
What will happen if you pair this with something like the Boss FZ-1W?
i want to hear this thing on synth or drums or on a bus
a technical question. Do I get the same functions as the Benson Germanium Boost (green pedal) by setting the Benson germanium fuzz as a clean boost?
Not exactly, they’re voiced differently. But somewhat similar results!

Sedona is my backyard
Could a pedal like this, always kept on at the beginning of the effects chain (set to no more than 12:00), replace a buffer pedal?
