1:48:51 _THIS_ energy, is exactly what makes Adam Savage (Mythbusters, and now his Tested channel) such a goddamn *treasure* of a human!! I've said it about Adam and I'll say it about Allison: I may have zero interest in a topic, but *_their_* excitement about it is just INFECTIOUS and thereby makes me excited. 😅 It also makes him the perfect person to conduct an interview, especially when he himself has a lot of knowledge of the topic. Because the interviewee might mention something, and then Adam gets really excited and giddy about, which conveys to the viewer who might not have a clue, that this tidbit is interesting and pay attention! So yea, I'm glad Allison is on the Alveus board of directors, as now I know she won't be going anywhere. Otherwise, I'd say they need to hold onto her at *whatever* cost. _(still true, though!)_ 😊
i had such a blast! I have a hobby of embroidering specimens of moths/butterflies. So I used this stream to draft up a new template and start on this newest creation. Im doing a Lymantria Marginata moth! Tysm Allison and Maya for all the bug facts and the company. I cant wait for the next stream
@@occultus_lupus "Them" along with "they" can be singular. Ex: "Someone left their suitcase at the airport. That sucks for them!" In this way it's understood it's a single subject that the suitcase belongs to. Even if this wasn't grammatically correct (which it is) the word has been adopted to be a respectful way to refer to someone when you're unsure of the pronouns that they use. :)
Another banger!!! I love her! I hope she does more in the creative space. Allison is so cool and charismatic as hell! And her smile is infectious! She certainly gained a fan in me!
For more detail for the cutting worms question: Earthworms and hammerhead worms like the ones she mentioned are actually part of two entirely different phylums. Earthworms are Annelid worms while Hammerhead worms are a part of Platyhelminthes (planarians/flatworms). Annelid worms have a more complex segmented structure to their bodies while planarians are not segmented and have a fairly simple body plan. Both types of worms can regenerate to some degree, but planarians are famous for being able to regrow entirely new worms from basically any portion of the body that's been cut. Annelids, being a bit more complex, depend entirely on the species being asked about. Most earthworms can regenerate their tail or some segments of their head, but a common earthworm won't grow a new worm from it.
Yessss, so happy this VOD went up so quickly! I was so sad when I found out Dr Allison bug pinning was gonna be smack dab int he middle of my work day.
This video was superb. That iridescent moth was... breathtaking. Can't believe the beauty of these bugs. The colors, the designs, and they are living beings. I mean, I prefer goats, cats and chickens, but bugs are stealing mah heart.
Going into this VOD I was fairly interested, but Omg I never would’ve thought this would be such an awesome stream! Allison is amazing, and so informative!
1:18:20 "[emtemologists] all look and act like the bugs they study" this is so hilariously true. Volunteered in a whip scorpion (3 Florida and Cuban species but I cant remember the names ) entomology lab during the school year (college) and we're All goth lmao.
YOOOO I USED TO LOVE DOING THIS WITH MY ENTOMOLOGIST AUNT FREAKING POG 🤩🤩🤩 we actually did a fun project with a few like ‘exploded’ specimens in 3D and a fully assembled in centre to better show them in display based off of my favourite human skull display I saw as a child 😊 we also did this with the four skeletal remains of one of my favorite species we were able to collect finding them from roadkill 😢. The eastern indigo snake! A Florida native and very cool protected species.
From all I could find online, the "eggs communicating with each other" is a bit of an odd way to put it, made it sound like it's hormones being transmitted through the shell or smth. From what I could read about it, late stage embryos make little rythmic sounds once they're ready to hatch and the other embryos from nearby eggs respond and that way they coordinate and end up hatching at the same time. Seagulls apparently also hear adult seagull warning calls while in the egg and it makes them adjust their behaviour once they hatch, this all makes sense since late-stage embryos means these are pretty much "complete" birds, but still pretty cool to know! Would love for Dr. Allison's friend to come and talk about chickens sometime :)
Maya! Ngl…. I think Qt would love to do something like this. Easy QT collab idea?? Send her some of the samples you didn’t use, let her collab with your ent professional. Qt learns a lot and her community gets another Alveus exclusive
my dad used to catch butteflys and pin them on white cardboard and frame them and put them on the wall. its was cool, but i also hated that the butterflies had to die for some stupid art.
Loved this video! Love bugz! Thank you for the great content! If anyone has the link for the bug discord with Dr Allison I would really appreciate it 💜
I am very interested in the eggs communicating through electrical signals! However, I can’t find an alternate source anywhere that even talks about this. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?
When is the bug book coming out? I teach TK and i love teaching kids to love bugs and we just had a showcase about pollinators and how to save them. Kids are so open to giving them a chance and I’d love to add another bug book to our collection
i had a praying mantis outside my front door and it got into the house and my cat tried to get it and i took a plastic container and caught it carefully and put it outside,, it kinda scared me but i couldnt let my cat get itt
Ever see the Wine About It episode where she talks about her stalker? He was one of those kinds of people. He's either in jail or not alive now, but scary stuff. I would not want to be a streamer. It attracts these people because they are lonely and want to interact with someone, but they are too unwell to interact with other people in person.
I can't believe how maya went back in time to kill these butterflies personally in the 80s
Right after she saved Marty mcfly and doc brown
