    Here's a first look at the new Polar M430 GPS watch. This new unit now contains optical heart rate (HR), plus vibration alerts and tweaks like a new connector. I dive into all the details including a first run with the watch, as well as GPS and HR data accuracy analysis.

    Thanks for the review. I bought after watching this and am very happy so far. Price has come down a bit. I wear it snug but I wouldn't say tight. It has had no issues reading HR. GPS connects fast. I was prepared to buy a chest strap but I do not think I will need it.

    excited to try it out! using the m400 and just can't 100% dig the chest strap. after about 10 months. just started not wanting to pair with the watch so I'm pumped to get this and eliminate the worry of not pairing.. hopefully its good! best stuff for mx training!

    How do you access the sleep data on the M430? The manual says it is on My Day but I can't see it there. Any ideas please?
    I am not yet able to see any data on the Polar App on my phone let alone sleep data because I can't yet pair my watch with my phone even though my phone says my watch IS paired because it is on the Bluetooth list in my phone.

    Polar all the way! I've had 3 Garmins, but my M430 blows Garmin away. Garmins are just finicky when syncing sometimes, plus their GPS seems to be incorrect on known distances.

    Cool review. I am considering this watch. Presently, I use a Polar M400 with a MIO Fuse connected via bluetooth to the M400 for heart rate data: works like a charm, but it would be nice to just have one device on my wrist.

    Tempted to get this, been looking around for the past couple of months at various makes. Biggest annoyance is my skinny wrist, they all look chunky!

    • @tapio_m6861
      @tapio_m6861 7 років тому

      AndyUK2006 i got skinny-ish wrist, and the M400 isn't too awful on it. The M430 is likely a bit bulkier (thicker) but the other dimensions are likely just the same. It's probably using the same display. Really really tempted to get this one. Not because of the optical sensor but for the vibration alerts. The optical HR sensor is extra goodness but I would probably still end up using my belt. Would've been interesting to see Ray also run with a HR belt to see how these compare to what still likely is the more accurate way to measure HR.

    Can I use the optical HR-Sensor of a Polar M430 with a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt? There is an option to let the HR be visibile to other devices on the M430.

    Great review! Did the M430 has to be tied tightly? Seems that the new Polar algorithms allows the watch to become more loose on the wrirst. Another variable would be the amount of arm hair, I always had problems with the M600 with that.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  7 років тому +5

      Not super tight, but it doesn't feel overly tight when you pull it snug. The band material is really nice in that way, much nicer than the M600 for example.

    • @tapio_m6861
      @tapio_m6861 7 років тому +1

      How's the accuracy of the optical HR sensor? If you would use the M430 yourself as a day-to-day activity/HR monitor would you still use the H7 band?
      Thinking of replacing my old trusty M400 mainly because of the vibration alerts (I run with music on), I don't mind using the band but is the optical sensor any good?

    2. Is m430 compatible for both android and iphone?
    3. Does it still have any backlight?

    I am very curious about the tracking of sleep on the M430. I have the M400 and the sleep does not always come out very accurately. I have compared the M400 at the same time wearing the Vivosmart and the HR version and the sleep tracking is so much better. I was hoping someone would mention this feature on the new M430 but no reviews have yet address this. The adds for the A370 on Polar's website mentions that trackers sleep plus being new. By the way great review!

      Hoka One One Agreed. I trust anything from Polar. My M400 has been put through the ringer. Was considering the a360 for a while but that has had issues with the band as well. Also i don't get why they raised the price since thats what made the M400 attractive to many people. Honestly think i just might buy another M400! Lol

    Mummo ihmisen, ikä 70 v. on täysin mahdotonta saada mitään selvää amerikkalaisen pika puhujan englannin kielestä. Onko aivan mahdotonta saada näitä videoita edes suomenkielisellä tekstityksellä ? Minä olen kokeillut kaikki äly kellot Whatcista - Polariin ja aina edessä on tämä sama ongelma, kun suomessa kehitetyn Polarin ostajalle ei enää tarjota suomenkielistä opastusta. Tä'rkeintä olisi nyt ottaa käyttöön vanhan mallin Polarin pikku vihkonen, johon oli piirretty kellon kaikki osat ja se miten polar kellon voi ottaa käyttöön niin, että siitä näkyisi edes aika. Minä sain joululahjaksi Polar A 370, eikä sen näyttöön pysty saamaan mitään elämää, vaikka kellolle on tehty kaikki ohjelman mukaiset temput. Se on yhdistetty ja syngronoitu mobiiliin ja kaikki tiliä koskevat paperit on täytetty kaikilla hipsuilla mitä tietokon, tai kännykkä ymmärtää vaatia. Ja tämä ongelma on edessä joka kerta, kun ostat uuden älykellon. Minulla oli Apple Watsh, mutta sain siitä nikkeliallergian ja lahjoitin sen pojalleni. Apple ei suostunut edes kellon palautukseen, kun sain sen 2017 joululahjaksi. Sitten hankin Fitt bit kellon ja yllätys yllätys myyjä unohti kertoa että Fitt bit ei tuo suomenkielistä ohjetta ja taas sai miniä itselleen älykellon, hän kun on nuori ja hallitsee englannin kielen. Sitten vaihdoin merkkiä taas Polariin ja se suostui toimimaan, mutta se oli minun pieneen ranteeseeni liian suuri kellotaulultaan ja taas sai tyttäreni äidinlahjaa älykellon. Nyt löysin joululahjaksi itselleni pienen siron Polar A 370, mutta en saa sitä näyttämään edes aikaa, saatikka mitään muuta. Arvaan mitä mietitte ! Sitä ettenkö minä voisi pyytää poikaani, miniääni ja tytärtäni rukkaamaan kelloa minulle niin, että voisin sitä käyttää. Hyvä ajatus, mutta ei käy nyt, koska olen kotona koronapotilaana ja kaikki läheisten vierailut kotonani on nyt telakalla. Toisekseen, emme me mummut ja paapat voi aina vaivata netti ja älyongelmillamme lapsiamme, emmekä lapsenlapsia. Heillä on oma elämä ja omat infulensansa sairastettavana sillä aikaa, kun minä sairastan koronaa. Kolmanneksi nämä älykellot ja muut härpäkkeet maksavat niin paljon, että on aivan kohtuullista vaatia niihin suomenkieliset kunnon ohjeet ja nippeli tiedot. Minä olen nyt pahoittanut mieleni pohjia myöden, enkä usko enää, että tässä maailmassa on paljoakaan järkeä. Suomen kielestä vielä ! Mikä ja minkälainen on kansa, joka ei arvosta omaa äidinkieltään sitä vertaa, että suosisi sitä silloin, kun näkee edessään 70 vuotiaan kantasuomalaisen, joka ei puhu muita kieliä kuin suomea.

      It doesn't do 24x7 HR recording, only 24x7 step/distance tracking (as was noted in the video). There's the possibility they'll add 24x7 HR recording down the road in Q3, but they said that a year ago too.

  • @chesshead
    @chesshead 5 років тому

    I like your analysis at the end but I was hoping you would show us how inaccurate the watch is on power-saving mode. I think you mentioned at the start that it can measure GPS every 1 second, 30 seconds or 60 seconds. I think 30 seconds, for an ultra marathon, would cut off some big corners, especially hairpins. 30 and 60 are too similar. 1, 10 and 60 would have been better.
