Dude this is huge! Thanks for sharing with us! Wish I saw this when bought my axe 2 years go though) Was frustrated a bit with all dialing process at that time.
Tom Quayle just shouted out Leon Todd. Holy crap. My life is complete. Y'all are the 2 reasons I got an AXE FX3 myself!!
Dear Tom, its not the ax fx III.
Its you.
Incredible tones Tom! Much appreciated!
Incredible Tone & fascinating to watch your playing style Tom. Very much appreciate the time you put in.
Epic tones, and that intro playing was lush!
So beautiful!!!!! So much feeling! Melody is vital and you GOT IT!!!!
Just got my Axe Fx 3 and this will be a lot of fun to dive into! Thanks for the preset, Tom!
Love your playing, brother. Absolutely soulful at all times. Thank you for the great videos!
Finally some tones from Axe that don't kill my ears. Thanks Tom, very informative!
Thank you for walking through your logic here. I learned a lot about how to approach dialing in a tone.
Great stuff! Thanks for the preset too! Beautiful tone!
Thank you very much. This made a huge difference in using my AXE. Finally I got a really good Drive Sound. I have searched for that. And thank you for all of your UA-cam lessions.
They inspired me a lot, and made my guitar playing better every day.
Amazing. Thank you infinitely for sharing. Just recreating a similar tone w/ a fresh preset caused a flood of inspiration. Cheers 🥂
Big fan, have been for a long time and this is so refreshing to hear from you. Nice to see you constrain your self a bit, lay back and nail some serious feel with sick tone. Makes me want to buy an AXE FX..hehe
Thank you sir! This preset is a perfect match for my Luke III HSS. I've never explored that amp model before. It sounds fantastic.
Thank you Tom. This is amazing. Great tone
Killer sounds man, thanks for sharing!
Thank you Tom!!!!!!! very appreciate the sectings of the cab block!!
Great video, Tom! Thank you.
Just amazing sir!! Appreciate
Wow what a beautiful opening sequence your fingers are magic
Excellent video and great Preset Tom! I was working on a Mark Lettieri Funk/Blues lesson today and this was perfect for that:-) Playing my own Ibanez (JS1CR), the only thing I needed to add was a Wah...too fun. Thank you!
You are so good Tom!
I have a GT100BOSS and I'm learning to do presets even with your videos bro! thanks Tom!
Thanks so much for a so great video and tips!
Just found this! Thanks, Tom!
Wow. Very helpful!
You got a new sub
Wow! sounds wonderful
Thank you Tom. I took a look at your Legato Toolkit recently which I downloaded a while back. It is helping me to read music as well as improving my technique.
Repaired my L20T earlier. Parts arrived from China. (Replaced the Bright Switch) then progressed to tackling my Ibanez AR50 which I've owned for years but never got on with. It has been hidden in a case out of sight. Changed the strings filed the nut a bit, set the Intonation again and it's like a dream. I'd sold a Les Paul over a year ago and this is my nearest guitar of that type but so preferable. It is Ace and ticking all the boxes. I'd wired the Bridge pickup incorrectly also 🙄. Played it for hours while standing which is new for me.
Noticed you use the L20T also in clip earlier today. What am amp.
I am slowly getting into the AXIII but it doesn't feel right yet but your video is telling me to fiddle. Fiddling is the key obviously as playing through studio monitors feels wrong. That and understanding the EQ range of the thing and how to shape the bandwidth. Leon is also very helpful.
Thank you for passing on your tips and tweaks and the preset. Ill get to grips with the thing yet.
Hello Tom,
Awesome Video.. Thank you for the preset. One thing worth mentioning is that the slope of the cut in your preset is 12dB/octave and the slope can be made steeper or flatter in the box below the Hi & Low cut.. this can be done with a PEQ at the end of the chain as well to cover any blocks beyond the cab in the signal chain, with any of the available 4 PEQ anywhere in the chain you like. I prefer the hi cut on reverbs/delays somewhere between 3-5k. So many ways to get where you are going. What a great time to be a smart guitarist!!!! I used an AxeFxII for ever... held off on getting the AxeFxIII... It is worth the jump.. Sold the II & MFC101 - bought the III & the FC6, covered about 60% of the new gear... The channel feature is so powerful... One preset can cover so much with scenes x channels... enough babbling... time to play guitar.
Wyzyguy Wyzyguy awesome advice! Thanks - I’ll try your suggestions!
I'm hearing some guthrie govan tones in here!!! Insane chops and preset!
Fantastic tone! Thanks for the insight and the preset.
If I may suggest something: try the gain enhancer on the amp’s dynamics page (output compressor), set it to 2.0 and see what you think.
All I can say is that you are an amazing guitarist! I am jealous and I just love your playing!!
The CAE amps always sound great in every modeler or profiler. It’s a great amp.
Outstanding preset good Sir. It would be great to hear you talking about jazz tones (clean ones specially!) on the fractal units.
This is an instant like type video. Tnx man
Great tips in here, Tom. I think the general rule is to cut 80hz and 8khz. You can place a parametric EQ just before the output and block both of these frequencies and boost others - this has yielded pretty good results for me.
Ace Tom, thank you for description and the patch duly loading on my Axe Fx III. Excellent patch set. I am using a Jack Thammarat Pacifica loaded with Neck and middle Suhr V70s and Suhr SSV in the bridge, guessing this is the closest sounding guitar to your Ibanez. Cant wait to try it with my Waghorn with Kiesel Berylliums when they arrive!
Absolute madness as usual tom. Just excellent. Would sure love for you to convert the preset for us Axe fx 2 users if you ever get the time(my heart skipped a beat when you mentioned it in this video). I'd pay for it obviously. Thanks so much for diving into so much detail, I'm fairly certain I won't be sleeping tonight trying to emulate this on my xl+
Amazing tones & tasteful playing Tom, any chances of doing a port for the new Fractal FM3?
No matter the gear you use, listening to your playing takes me to dreamland. CPU on the FxIII is less than 60%, this preset is good tor the FM3 as well!
That song is the beginning was amazing
That dog is awesome as the patchs
the way you play at the beginning, it's like those days when emotions flow effortlessly, you're connected, it doesn't happen every day, right?
Hey Tom, great stuff as always! Just wondering if you noticed any difference in noise/interference between the II and the III? As a single-coil pickup (and Axe FX II) user it can be quite annoying dealing with EMF/EMI radiation in our modern world, and I'm wondering if the III perhaps has better shielding that you've noticed at all? I pick up a lot of "USB Jitter" noise when connected to my PC too which doesn't happen when not connected via USB.
Cheers!
That’s a gorgeous AZ
Man I'd give anything to have 10% of Tom's talent...good lord..
Hey Tom, let me tell you something, the quality of this preset is impressive, it reflects your great talent, knowledge, experience and an exquisite ear.
After having tried thousands of presets I can say that it sounds super real in the feeling, in addition to the details of frequencies in the pre amp, cab, etc. super instructional, like your guitar lessons.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos and instructions, you are very inspiring and one of my favorite guitarists of this era.
Thank you for sharing this preset and so much information, it is much appreciated.
A big hug from Miami Florida! keep rocking brother !!!
Just a HUGE wow, thats nuts as you said TQ, how can anyone deny the AXEFX111, its the shit aint it, those guys just nailed the tails on everything, they are pure tight and luscious, gotta get me some of that one day, maybe this year I'll go buy that fucker, thanks Tom, insane playing as usual, your my fave of everyone l've ever heard over the last 30 years, cheers to ya mate from Australia
Yes please ReEngineer this for axe 2 xl +
I am in my 50’s and I just want to have a great sound
Thank You Sir
Fantastic video Tom, im able to kinda follow the same ideas on the Helix, with good IRs (York Audio).
Im having a little trouble balancing the pickups on the TQM. There isn't any factory specs available for this. But as it came from Thomann, holding the last fret, the neck and middle was at 2mm (bass and treble side) and the bridge was at 4mm bass side and 3mm treble side. Im having trouble with drive, the bridge feels much "weaker than the single coils. Lower the single coils maybe? Without loosing clarity? Or just raise the bridge pickup?
Hope you and your near ones are alright in these times!
That's a great video, the preset is also working on the FM9
the preset is not available on his page anymore, can you share it?
Hey Tom, AX8 user here, this preset sounds great, would be good if you could make an AX8 version of this as i would definitely use this. Good work mate!
most of it appears to be there on the Axe Fx2 or AX8, except the cabinet, but I guess the F080 1x12 Deluxe Verb Mix should be similar
@ Actually FX II sounds bettter IMO than FX III
WoooooW just WoooooW ......im blown away Tom by your explanations N tweaking......
N i have to say that im not a huge fan of Axe FX modeler which i found to much HiFi kind of tones 2 my ears
##### but anyway everything you touch with your fingers become gold instantaneously
But im gonna keep my ENGL Stack (E530 + 840/50) & my good old 90's Peavey VS St Cabs (G12K+V30) 🤟
Thanks for this Video. I´ve learned much about the Cab Paramters.
´would like ask you if you think that the Axe FX III could really make the sound and feel like a real tube Amp. i´ve been trying to get it for more than one year. But dind´t get it right (maybe too much parameters..) What work´s for me is a Tube Amp into a load box and then use the Cab Block in the Axe.
But the plan was to replace everything with the Axe ´couse of carrying too much equipment.
king regards
Hello.! thank you so much for the video. I have a question: when editing a preset ( scene ) how do I clean the what is in foe example Scene SO1 so that when I don't keep the same thing in scene S02, S03..etc ?
What speakers is the Axe FX connected too? Is it the studio monitors on the stands.
Hey Tom, I have an interesting question for you..
You know that you (as with ALL amp modellers) have to dial of the infamous digital top significantly to indulge in really believable tone..
Well.. is there a great way of running the tone through an analogue treble enhancing device such as guitar preamp or studio preamp, or one of those 80s / 90s kind of rack size preamp boxes that guitarists would put on top of their amp head to get that high frequency 'harmonised' type tone (not a pitch shifter, but a pre-amp kind of device that adds a really cool 'high freq' sound).. etc..
Any thoughts? If not maybe you could experiment.. I could send you some unit names if you'd like to experiment regaining your treble on the afx :) maybe record us a vid using one ;) have you experimented with such analogue treble accentuating pres post_digital chain?
Cheers :)
Tom why don't you use any compressors in your chain?
I wonder what key the dog is in? It looks very Lydian Dominant.
Does anyone know how to get this preset? The link provided no longer seems to have it, and it’s not on ax exchange as far as I can tell. Would greatly appreciate it if someone could share it. Thanks!
Hi! I could not find this preset in your website. Is there any other way to download it? Thanks!!
I donot have axe 3 but axe 2 xl + can you still help me I have a question about dynamics
For some reason, this preset patch won't import? Every time that I try and import it, nothing happens. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks!
anyone know if this is usable with an FM3?
Great Sounding preset! Downloaded your AXE FX III patch to mine and even though I have similar guitar and gear to yours I cannot seem to get the smooth sweet brightness you are getting. My tone is rather flat and almost muddy. The only difference is that you are using studio FRFR powered monitors and I am using a closed back EV 12L powered by a Matrix amp. What changes in EQ or other parts of the signal chain would you suggest to compensate for the fact that our speaker systems are different?
You're going from the axe fx to a guitar amp, right? If you havent already figured it out. I’m pretty sure you have to turn off cabinet modelling (and i think amp modeling too) in the setup menu of the AXE FX 3. You may want to set up your output setting as mono out. And also get yourself a humbuster (TS to TRS) cable to mitigate any ground loop hum. And refer to the AXE manual and forum.
@@Allthewrongkeys821 Hi Braden, thanks for your suggestions. I am not running into a guitar amp, rather a Matrix solid state power amp then into a guitar speaker (the EV 12L). But I think you are right, I need to turn off the Cab Block in the preset or just bypass it in the entire preset. I believe this would be the same as disabling the Cabinet Modeling in the master set up menu as you suggested. Also, I don't believe disabling Amp Modeling is the answer for my set up, rather in the Amp Block, in the Speaker Drive setting, turning the output mode to SS Pwr Amp + Cab, instead of FRFR was what I needed to do to complete the approximation of Tom Quayle's tone. My preset is now very close to his tone with those two adjustments. Now I just need to fine tune the settings and tone of my guitar to really capture it. I don't have any issues with ground loops and the like. However, I do add a slight Intelligent Gate on the input and a slight Downward Expander, RMS, type gate right before the Delay and Reverb blocks to eliminate any hiss or noise from the compressor and/or 808 Drive block when engaged in some of the scenes. So thanks again for the suggestions...
Can anyone help me out? The patch isn't working. It loads but there is nothing there
Your dog must be happy
I straight up do not understand guitar face. I mean I play a lot. I realized early in learning that like anything with high focus you can tick-out unless you learn some control… I went the way of control.
1:08 -- Excuse me guys, just had to fix my shirt :D
21:46 Not a lot of gain on the water
Love your style, even have two of your dvd's (Lick Library Legato and 51 Advanced Rock Licks). Now how about posting something about replicating these tones with an amp. Not everyone has £XXXX's to spend on an Axe FX. Some of us lead normal lives.
Tom why you sounds like jack
I'm always afraid to watch your videos Tom, as they make me want to burn my guitars ... !?!? :-D
Can we see your dog in your videos, please?
