It’s too early to tell whether this offensive will have strategic significance in the war, but here are a few potential effects: 1. Russia must now more seriously defend its border with Ukraine. Before, there was an asymmetry where Ukraine had to fortify their side but Russia didn’t. 2. Ukraine’s morale has been boosted. 3. Ukraine have shown that the West’s fear of escalation was partly unfounded, and now the restrictions on Western weapons has been further eroded. 4. Ukraine has exploited Russia’s inability to adapt to dynamic warfare, particularly in places that had no military logistical support previously. This was also displayed during Prighozin’s march on Moscow, where there was no response from Russia’s military. 5. Russia will eventually need to divert resources from other combat areas. 6. Russia will be forced to retake the Kursk territory occupied by Ukraine. This may cause Russia to continue attacking longer than the natural culmination of their Summer advances in the East. Attacking causes more attrition than defending in this war. This may cause further strain on Russia’s military.
@@RusselBrout From a military point of view it was not a good decision, attack requires better trained troops , ukraine is already devoid of manpower and now it acquires more than 300 sq kms of area which have to be protected , a proper military mechanised brigade covers apporx 15 to 30 km of area this means approximately 10 full size brigades at minimum are required to only defend , that is 30 k men at minimus so including attack force etc if ukraine attacked with 50 k men of all arms , they have seriously wasted there capablilites just for a moral victory, which will diminish in some days...

I feel that there's a whole slew of variables that are missing that we currently do not know about. Particularly, enlistment rates of draftees, rotations of troops on and off the line, as well as the ability for experienced units to retain key knowledge in the heat of battles to lessen the likeliness of a rout or being overwhelmed.
Actually, Ukraine's defensive border hasn't changed in size, it's Russia's that's expanded. Russia was allocating a disproportionate amount of resources to the front line, while largely ignoring the defense of its borders. The necessary change of that posture is going to spread Russian resources thinner, taking pressure off the front line and hopefully creating opportunities for Ukraine - perhaps in Crimea?
@kevinlee890726 i have nothing to do with this war,but as a geopolitical enthusiast if russia was humiliated they wont shy away from using nuclear weapon as a last resort,i know that is coward way to win,but they will do it,they want to win this war
This is either a move that will gain Ukraine huge advantage in future negotiations or will result in a huge loss of Ukraine’ resources, what a risky move but worth a try
I think this might backfire hard. Russians who opposed the war until this point can now be convinced that their core homeland is under threat by Ukraine. Russian propaganda could turn this into "The defence of the motherland" or something, instead of "We need to denazify Ukraine", which was a much poorer excuse to invade. The bombing of Hamburg during WW2, Operation Gomorrha, had similiar effects for the Hamburg population. Hamburg, a very left leaning city, even back then (in which a huge number of people where just workers and were not really convinced by Nazi ideology), had a huge increase of volunteers for the Wehrmacht after said Operation. Why? Because they felt the impact of the war and decided that they need to act. The same effect might apply with that offensive done by Ukraine.
Hey Z-trolls! How is Ukraine able to simply walk into Mordor? I thought they were short on soldiers! I thought they were forcing the elderly and pregnant ladies into the front lines! I thought RuZZia was saving their own best troops for later! LOL …
You forgot to mention belgorad civilians were being shelled before russia started that offensive there. I know you cant fit every little detail in a short summery report but connecting only some of the dots changes the picture I guess
Most of you who underestimate Ukraine's efficacy, should know that they have been for 2 years fighting a huge army and constantly learning and developing modern warfare tactics. They can lecture other countries on how it's done. Let alone the fact that there is a constant supply from USA and UK. Which by the way are in need of feedback from this modern warfare without taking an economic blow like Ukraine is.

The reason it was a surprise is that Ukraine barely has enough troops to prevent the Russian offensive in the eastern provinces. This was an insane move to sacrifice men for some territory in Russia for the inevitable negotiations with Russia. Putin has told Zelensky that any peace talks are off the table now, so he must watch the AFU to fight and collapse or surrender in the next few months. If Zelensky had taken the peace deal offered by Putin over 2 years ago, he would have saved the lives of over 400k Ukrainian soldiers and the destruction of most major cities in Ukraine. "Attack your enemies where they are not." - Some old Chinese dude.
It’s too early to tell whether this offensive will have strategic significance in the war, but here are a few potential effects:
" ...Moses supposes his tooses were roses, and Moses supposes his tooses were not.."

@@yoyomodiji I think it is a good decision up to now. The suprise created quite a divertion and boosted morale. But they should pull out now. The element of suprise is over. Instead Ukraine army is setting up camp in Russia. This will effectively expand the front line which is bad news for the weaker side, and that is Ukraine.
Yes but the most important and unavoidable point is that Ukraine doesnt have the manpower in numbers to best russia.

We all watched when Putin's russia thought that they could take kyiv within 3-4 days😂😂. We all watched when ukraine thought that the counter offensive could push the russians out. But what we've seen is complete opposite, now militarily the truth is ukraine goals was to divert attention and relieve some pressure from the east fronts, what if russia exerts more pressure there instead and force ukraine to re-think. These are very complicated times for both russia and ukraine generals.
The Ukrainian populace is being FORCED to fight against a numerically superior army.
" Their land, their blood"
Actually, Ukraine's defensive border hasn't changed in size, it's Russia's that's expanded.
Russia was allocating a disproportionate amount of resources to the front line, while largely ignoring the defense of its borders.
The necessary change of that posture is going to spread Russian resources thinner, taking pressure off the front line
and hopefully creating opportunities for Ukraine - perhaps in Crimea?
100% essentially there's only 2 supply lines to Crimea the bridge and the rail coming through that area

This is either a move that will gain Ukraine huge advantage in future negotiations or will result in a huge loss of Ukraine’ resources, what a risky move but worth a try
I pray that most of the citizens if both nations can get out of this war unharmed, but being how horrific war is, it's not likely.
This wouldn't make a difference in the war, unless Ukraine can occupy and hold Russian territory a thousand times larger than what it holds now.
Hey Z-trolls! How is Ukraine able to simply walk into Mordor? I thought they were short on soldiers! I thought they were forcing the elderly and pregnant ladies into the front lines! I thought RuZZia was saving their own best troops for later! LOL …

Why ukrain losses inside cursk are not covered here 🤷
The reason it was a surprise is that Ukraine barely has enough troops to prevent the Russian offensive in the eastern provinces. He chose war instead.
What about holding it?
